hmm, i didnt think Bruno was that bad. it had some incredibly intense scenes like the cage match in Arkansas (was just on TV here, man it was harder to watch than i remembered lol).

i will give this a chance. if its all staged and has zero real reactions from people i will be really disappointed though.

Fuck SBK. When I worked for ICM, we had to address that jumped up little prick as 'Sir Ben', lest he throw a mega strop.

ouch, lol. i can imagine.

Ugh, looks like a by-the-books standard pop comedy movie.

SBC always was at his best when he wrings subconscious reactions, especially discomfort and prejudice, out of unsuspecting people. This is just seems like a movie out of any standard comedian-that-needs-to-pad-the-bank-account catalog.

Agreed on all counts. His scripted humour is pretty weak on the whole. There are a few highs, but his real genius comes to play when he is fooling the public. Even that race scene is just typical of what you can see in any comedy movie. But where he shines is his ability to do the human interaction thing. Its what he should stick with.

I think you are going to be disappointed. You seriously think there's any possible way that someone would take him seriously in that ridiculous costume? Borat looked like a real person. Bruno did too to an extent. Nobody would believe this guy with the awful fake hair/beard would be a real person.

never underestimate the stupidity of people.

The trailers for this film look atrociously unfunny. Even the race scene, which many have called the highlight fails to ignite a smile, actually that was the least funny part.

There's a lot of stuff on the site.

From March 2nd on the calender:

Holocaust Remembrance Day:

At this somber occasion, Aladeen remembers all those who were so tragically released from Auschwitz.

And from his biography:

Childhood

Aladeen’s childhood was filled with tragedy; all six of his older brothers met with the most accidental of deaths. The eldest slipped on Aladeen’s Hot Wheels cars and fell down the stairs while babysitting Aladeen. Another brother fell and impaled himself through the eye on Aladeen’s “Action Jackson” action figure -- again while babysitting. Another was murdered at age 12 by General Motors when his Pontiac Trans Am put itself in drive and ran him over. Tragically, Aladeen’s remaining three brothers perished in a typical suicide pact by simultaneously shooting themselves in the back multiple times with automatic rifles.

yeah I found that kind of confusing- maybe they expect most people to not know the difference?

I doubt they know the difference themselves. Probably didn't bother to even research.

I did some background work as an extra for this movie while it was filming in Astoria Queens last summer so I might just check it out to catch myself but yeah from the trailers it looks awful.

This was a hilarious movie.. at the very least, way way better than his Bruno movie.

This movie and Borat, are awesome.

This movie fucking sucked. I don't want to say "I told you so" but I can tell by my posts from months ago that I was right on the money about how bad this would be.

What a shame. The guy is brilliant but I don't think I ever care to see him in another movie.

There's some good stuff in this movie but some of the jokes venture into Adam sander territory which hold it back. Not as good as borat or Bruno but still worth seeing.

Bruno was awful. So this is not as good as Bruno? Yikes. I wanted to see it one day.

Bruno was a pretty good satire, I preferred it to Borat actually. It's probably his best movie, but I was burned out on Borat after his shows and the movie was just more of the same. The Dictator is the worst film I've seen this year.

The one thing I will say about this movie that differs greatly from his other movies, is that unlike Borat and Bruno, this movie is very heavily scripted and stylized like a conventional comedy movie... it doesn't do the whole, his character interacting with supposed 'real people'/non-actors to gauge their reactions to his behavior

Everybody in this movie is obviously an actor
