Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter will launch for PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC via Steam on September 19, the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals.

As previously announced, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter will be a worldwide release. In Japan, the standard edition will cost 8,800 yen, while the "Bracer Box" edition will cost 15,400 yen.

The magazine also includes the latest Japanese voice cast reveals, including:​

  • Cassius Bright (voiced by Kenji Hamada)​
  • Professor Alba (voiced by Nobuo Tobita)​
  • Aina Holden (voiced by Sayumi Suzushiro)​
  • Josette Capua (voiced by Anna Nagase)​
  • Nial Burns (voiced by Satoshi Tsuruoka)​

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, formerly The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st, will launch for PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC via Steam as a simultaneous worldwide release in fall 2025, developer Nihon Falcom announced. It will be published by GungHo Online Entertainment in the west with English and Japanese voice-overs, and English, Japanese, French, and German subtitles. It is a full remake of the original story RPG The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky.​

I haven't played the OG since the PSP but I remember Estelle being annoying for most of it, she gets better at the end and the second game though.
 
No GOG release? Every Trails game has come to GOG so far.

You know, it's just that I like to actually own the games that I buy.

So the publisher is GungHo and not NISA? Interesting.

I'm a bit worried now that PH3 doesn't seem the lead dev for the PC version. Their ports are fantastic. Let's hope for the best...

I was surprised at first too, but apparently many of the old guard who worked at Xseed are now at GungHo.

Then this game is for you. The original Trails in the Sky trilogy is one of the best-ever JRPG stories I've ever experienced.

Estelle Bright is what all game devs should aspire to when they mention "strong female protagonist". One of the best female leads of the series and gaming in general.

I still have a backlog of Trails games to finish, so will try to at least get deeper into the Cold Steel games before diving into this one. Definite day 1 buy tho.
 
I just find it weird that Trails doesn't have a consistent publisher. From Xseed to NISA to GungHo

The problem with smaller developer/publisher. IIRC they also quite close with Konami in Japan. I think it's because Konami helped distribute Falcom's games. Same case with Gust with Koei Tecmo, later on bought by KT.
 
This is great news.

Things confirmed:
ps5/pc/switch (previously only switch was confirmed)
GungHo - as someone pointed out is GungHo is remaining Xseed trails team so this actually makes more sense than current Xseed doing it.
My guess on why NISA is NOT doing it probably largely has to do with keeping them focused on the main games (daybreak II / KAI 1 translations ...for a possible KAI 2 simu release)

Things not confirmed:
Is Durante and company doing the PC port? Hopefully he does bc hes the magicial of the trails franchise.

Overall - very positive pro consumer news. NF seems to actually care about their worldwide audiance and is making sure their product is properly taken care of.

God I love waking up to great news! I can't wait for this, heard so many wonderful things and now I'll be able to see for myself!
 
I think the originals are amazingly charming games, as well as Ys Origins and Oath and such, very 32-bit style with nice 3D backgrounds, pixel art textures and sprite characters (like Grandia, Xenogears, Shining Force III etc.) and I really dislike some of the newer entries visually since they went full 3D.

But this looks quite nice too. They better hire Durante for the PC port.

Combat looks similar to Daybreak. You can attack enemies in the field (action RPG mode, basically), but while attacking you can press a button to move into turn-based mode for the remainder of the battle. Action mode is great for clearing out trash mobs quickly, but you'll get your ass handed to you trying to take on harder enemies or bosses.

Falcom finally reached to the simultaneous releases with Japan. Took them long enough. Hope that until the release of this game, Farewell to Zemuria will be translated (and voiced) to English and come to Steam officially.

Maybe that's why this Trails game isn't going to be on GOG? XSEED and NISA had no problems and pretty much every Falcom game is on there. Some publishers are really scared of releasing things DRM free even if it means previous games in the series were all released there.

Pretty depressing you can't own your digital games unless it's DRM free like GOG nowadays.

Iirc that's the localization making her an insufferable cunt, she wasn't supposed to be like that as per direct fan translations.

I hope my Japanese improves so I can finally put localizations to rest when this comes out because they will be based on og versions 😌
 
Can't wait for devs to finally start announcing their games on Switch 2. I seriously can't be excited for anything "Switch" releasing in 2025.
 
Currently playing The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak, so will buy rmk in collection, but don't know will play it or not, until there changes in story etc

well XSeed wasn't really staffed to the point it be capable and it's not that NISA couldn't as much as Falcom has only recently started allowing work to be done on the English localization before the game releases in Japan (and due to that NISA is still playing catch up on the series since it's not like they want to release them back to back to back)

my concern with GungHo is going to be among other things this

I just read that GungHo apparently won't be using the original XSEED English script, and instead they'll be doing their own EN localization.

PC. Cool.

Getting more a look at it, I think I like everything in the trailer, except for Scherazard's character design. Her face makes her look too young. Maybe if it were longer? As it is she barely looks older than Estelle.

Special shoutouts to using the Zanmai version of Sophisticated Fight in the trailer. That arrangement is baller.

Oh, Durante's not involved either? Damn. I don't know how technically proficient Gungho are. The last port of theirs I touched was the Grandia II PC release. It was fine, IIRC, but that was also 10 years ago. I have a tough time believing they can measure up to ph3.

We won't get all the bells and whistles that Durante's team provides like that nice anti aliasing for Daybreak and Nordics or expanded LOD load in.
