Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter launches September 19 worldwide for PS5, Switch, and PC

Glad GungHo is involved and not NISA. NISA shit. But let's see how the full game goes, but anything is better than NISA. XSEED was also kind of decent
NISA has improved dramatically since they hired Durante. He loves the Trails series and works to make sure that all of the PC ports are top notch.

I wonder if I'll give this a go. I really want to play the cold steel games, but I know the first 3 trials are important to the story.

I tired to play trials 1 on my pc and I kinda gave up maybe 50% way through.

I doubt they will remake trails 2 and 3 either

You can start with Cold Steel 1 if you want. You'll miss a few references, but you can easily look them up online. It's Cold Steel 3 & 4 when both the Sky and Crossbell sagas come into play.

As for remaking Sky 2 and 3, Sky 1 & 2 are basically one long game, so not remaking 2 wouldn't make a lot of sense. That said, they could probably get away with not remaking Sky 3, although some of the stories from 3 are really important for later titles.

Unless this game bombs, I can't imagine they wouldn't at least remake 2.

I'm not talking about performance and optimisation. I'm talking about NISA's shit localisations and "making jokes less sexist" and then closing any discussion about it. Fuck NISA

Remaking SC is no-brainer. Tons of characters and locations are re-used, they can make it pretty cheaply and Falcom is usually pretty efficient.

Regarding the Cold Steel games, if you think you vibe more with those then go for it. Just play Cold Steel 1&2 and then go back to Sky in case.

But if you plan to play the Sky + Crossbell arcs down the line anyway, then play them in release order starting from Sky FC/1st.

Let's not forget..."game key cards are most beneficial option for our customers" -_-

Oh fuck how could I forget that one. I was in disbelief after reading that. Publishers and developers(not all) have become very predatory and arrogant. I want to go back to the day of being called a nerd again.

Played the pc demo a bit, it's a competent port but not on the level of Durante who did the previous falcom ports.
EN estelle is insufferable i switched to jp audio after like 10 minutes, they doctored with the localization for sure just in the first 2 minutes the "My present is a Boy ?" is already cut compared to Xseed.

edit:
Also i hate how important scenes now are cutscenes with forced forwarding dialogue instead of "press A for the next line"

In regards to how the game feels while playing it, it's in essence Trails through Daybreak - Sky edition.

Mmm curious the Spanish location indeed translated the "My present is a boy?"

i guess they just redid english and reused the older script for other languages ?, i can test if german does the same.

It's the first time they translated a Legend of heroes game to Spanish, so this is the first translation, unless they are using a fan one.

Just tried a little bit of the demo last night. It seems it's pretty demanding. My Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RX 9070 XT can only run at 40-50 fps in 4K and high setting.

I'm still hating NISA for this name atrocity

Really liked the demo, but was bummed it's not fully voiced for all dialogue.

Still going to play this later this year when I have time.

This looked more like pure spite from them at the time. Don't know who was the dumb fuck on the localisation team that thought it was funny. Let's see how GungHo does and that it's more of a translation than a localisation because translations tend to be better than localisations(mostly), I mean it can only be better than NISA and not worse(I hope)

That seems a little odd my dated 10700k+3080 is getting a locked 120fps 1440p.
The default setting from the game was native 4K with medium setting. It was running fine at 60 fps. Then I tried turning on HDR and the frame rate drops. I just tried upscaling from 1080p and it ran better. Still need to mess with the setting

If this game can't run with all the bells and whistles at 4K/60 on a 9070xt / 5070ti, that's simply ridiculous.

Played a little on my PC handheld. Falcom have outdone themselves with the improvement to visuals, presentation, and UI. Reminds of the jump from Xenoblade 2 to Xenoblade 3

This first time playing Falcom game I'm super impressed by the visuals and animation quality here.

Maybe I misread the fps number. The number is too small on my TV lol.

I also remember that somehow the Steam fps number is half the adrenaline number. Maybe because I turn vsync on. I played yesterday with upscaling and it's 200 fps

From what I'm seeing in previews, ppl are saying it's their best ever output in that area.

I'm past the prologue and into chapter 1 of the original on steam now and really enjoying the characters and dialogue a lot. If I'd known I would have liked it this much I could have just started this series at the beginning at any time instead of watching videos debating the best entry point for someone trying to get into trails in modern times.

Even though I have the remake preordered, it's not just impatience that made me suddenly start playing the og. I was bothered by changes like how each empty chest used to have a unique message when clicked on being removed, or Estelle yelling "why is my present a boy?!" changing to "who is this boy!?" If I had to guess, the modern localization won't be as good as the original script. Even in chapter 1 I'm seeing weird stuff... like I just met a blond guy who tries to have sex with everyone, grossing the other characters out. Hopefully Estelle is still really funny, she has been pretty great so far in the og.

Curious enough, the translation to other languages seems to have used the funnier Xseed one (why is my present a boy? etc) instead of the new and supposedly more accurate one.

Falcom have outdone themselves, outside a main FF I defy anyone to find a JRPG with better audiovisual quality than this one. They have taken their work on Daybreak 2 and Trails Beyond the Horizon and put it to good effect here, in PS5 I would say it looks even better than those.

Remember that the average Xenoblade game has most likely 10x the budget of a Trails game.

Falcom started used motion capture with Ys IX (2019), and they have improved leaps and bounds since then. Still, don't expect the production value to be anywhere close to a Xenoblade game.

Never played the trails series but thoroughly enjoyed the demo on PC. Didn't have any issues with my 9800x3d and 3080 at 1440p. Will definitely be picking this up at launch

Has anyone played the demo yet? Most of the impressions I have seen have been very positive.
First time playing this franchise, I wanted to start with the original some months ago and I stopped when the remake was announced.

Playing the PC version now and I am enjoing it so far, a perfect entrypoint for people who enjoy classic JRPG with modern QoL mechanics like the action RPG mode

After demo this game become one of my most anticipated game this year.

It could even turn out to be my GOTY. I don't usually don't consider remake or remaster as my GOTY but in case I never played the original game and this is very high effort remake.

Yes. Its amazing. Only reason I won't buy it day one is because I've already played the original.
I love the TitS trilogy and Azure duology. Not a big fan of Cold Steel and onward.

And that makes me apprehensive about the remake with the combat changes and translation. Xseed did a superb job back in the day.
