At least you are not going to suffer like the people who played FC -> SC day one. That was a 4.5 years gap for the English version.

If the wait is too painful you can also get original TitS SC.

in the middle of final chapters, somehow seems i'm overleveled even though I didn't really do anything out of the ordinary. just bulldozing everything with the team atks. I think they kind of overdid it with adding all the advanced atk options in the later games into this. the enemies aren't really designed to take these kind of blitz attacks. I hear they did increase overall enemy HP, but nowhere does it match.

Falcom should fire whomever decided for button configurations. Limited customization is not helping at all. This is so bad that for the first time in all of my Trails gameplay I LOATHED button choices. I got used to it to some degree but totally feels wrong and diminishing my enjoyment.
Aside from that there are 2 things that I don't understand at all: Why did they remove map layers in one map? Now I had to go to second floors or interiors to see if there is a NPC there to talk. In Daybreaks I was seeing every NPCs in one map. And second is why the hell did they seperate the interiors with loading screens? There weren't any in their latest games. I really don't understand these design choices because they were so much refined in Daybreak games.
I'm having a really good time with the characters and the story again. Finished prologue in 22 hours in my classic Trails tempo. Enjoying little NPC stories, enjoying Liberl again. But these game designs man. They are definitely behind their latest games.

The funny thing is that they put the effort to not have loading screens between the cities/villages and the fields... and then you have a loading screen when you want to go into a 2x2 house.
It makes no sense at all.I mean, the Crossbell games basically just came out in the West (Zero 2022, Azure 2023). Not sure I would be up to play them again so close to their release, they are pretty fresh in my mind.

Quite a bit. I got burned out about half way through chapter 3, so I changed the difficulty to easy and turned on fast forward. Now it is much more to my liking, and I am very much enjoying the plot developments in chapter 4 (currently in the endgame, will likely finish it tonight)

That was my same reaction to both FC and SC when I finished both game way back when the OGs were on Steam. I haven't played this remake yet but it's looking likely that for 2026, it will be the first thing I play

I'm pretty limited on time and tend to ignore voice acting and go through things as fast as I can read.
Well, I just finished it. I've heard that the Trails games start with a slow burn that grows to a big finish, but I was definitely NOT expecting a big finish like that.
How do the other trails games compare when it comes to reveals and the overall intensity of the plot?
10/10. There are very few times I've read/played a story has stuck the landing as well as that one did.

Sky FC has all the nostalgia and mythic feeling of being the first of the series (well, it was published originally as The Legend of Heroes 6: Trails in the Sky), but is generally seen as one of the weakest of the series, although with a great cliffhager that leaves you wanting more.
It's one of the shortest and with less content, and the series grows adding each game new elements, lore etc, that also adds more elekts to reveals, plot twist, characters etc.
Additionally the combat was the most basic, something this remake has definitely solved introducing the Daybreak combat with some callbacks of Cold Steel.
Usually going from FC to SC was a more and better situation, but now with this amazing Remake maybe if you go to original SC you wont
feel the same IDK. The arcs usually have this structure of first game of slow cooking with a big reveal or cliffhanger at the end and second game of payoff, the local story and plot explodes and has a resolution in the last game and then you change of country and start again slowly with a new build up for the new cast. But in the later game they don't explain the basics and go directly for the lore, history, conflict etc of the new country and Ouroboros machinations in it.

I think its a pretty common for most of the games. favorite is probably Crossbell Trails to Azure/Zero since it seems a much smaller scale town and surrounding area so it concentrates more on the people you know.

The confidence in the studio and devs. They don't dare do this stuff anymore. Where they have very obvious cliffhangers and "tune in next time!" Like even other games in this era. They just play it safe, and if sales are good, they plan the sequel.
But they plan it all out in advance. Like say the game failed and then that would have been it. A cutoff and the story never finishes. But yea, nice to see 'yep this is how the trails game started' Guess it be the next games till i find out what the Sky in Trails in the Sky ends up meaning.

almost shed a tear at the end there. The reveals. Joshua and stuff. Had some suspicious about Alba. like wtf are you even doing here. My favorite squad was the love squad. I used Estelle, Joshua, and Tifa and Agate. Loved spamming his CP move and just using his S-craft every turn. I was kind of getting bored of the combat though. It was kind of a drag that you maxed out the orbments and got pretty much all the good ones really early. Just had equipment to look forward to. So I guess that was just how it was. Its neat to realize the power creep of items. Surprised and happy that there was no fishing in this game other than that one part. I say it, I hate fishing in games.

Yeah, the fact that they are not afraid to commit and literally hit you with a To Be Continued is why we love Trails indeed. You don't see this anymore nowadays.
And fishing is back in 2nd, prepare yourself.

well, I got the platinum last night. Game is absolutely wonderful.
It was a bit of a weird ride for me though. Having heard the series was great in places like gaf and done research watching youtube videos I was really excited about trails but unsure where to start. I didn't want to start in the first game and then find it felt too dated and I ended up dropping it, nor did I want start part way through and miss something. So the remake of sky seemed like the obvious solution to all my problems and I was pumped when I heard about it. But when preview videos surfaced I got really worried, a bit like the concern I feel watching these new metroid prime videos filled with annoying chatty npc dialogue. The new writing/localization seemed pretty bad, with worse dialogue and dumb changes compared to what I had seen of the old game in youtube videos.
So I panicked and decided screw it, I'm just gonna play the old game on steam. And it was great. Well, I wouldn't call the gameplay more than good, they did what they could with that old timey turn based system and it was enough to call it good but thank God for the turbo speed button. Meanwhile everything else was a higher standard than I'm used to from modern games in terms of characters and dialogue and scenarios, the game was incredibly charming. I really loved FC, so I went ahead and played the second game on steam immediately after and was surprised when I liked it even more. It had almost the exact same characters and locations, but it just felt like I was diving deeper into everything good about the first game and paying things off. I realized that I love all these characters like Josette and Agate and seeing more of them in future games would be incredibly appealling.
After all that fuss, I thought I might as well give the remake a go, and surprise, surprise, it was great too. I'm not crazy - all the changes I saw to the localization are there, but it's not as if this version of the dialogue/story is that bad, it's just that it's inferior because it's being compared to the old version which was excellent. In reality this new story/localization overall falls somewhere between adequate and good. And then most everything else is the same or better - gorgeous visuals, fun combat and mechanics, convenient maps and menus, all that good stuff. Yes I'd love the game to be perfect and have the dialogue from FC and the incredible Japanese voice actors from FC and have the little chests that have fortune cookie jokes inside them, but the Estelle in 1st Chapter is 90% the same as the wonderful Estelle from FC, so I'd say this game makes it into my top 3 for the year.
And I'm not confused what do to with the series any more. I'm super into it, so I'm gonna play through every old game in order spaced out at a rate of a couple each year and play every remake as they come out. I am a little bit concerned that my research tells me that most (not all) players think the second game is the best in the series, which means I've already experienced the peak of trails and I've barely gotten started. I'm hoping it doesn't dip greatly below that peak, but I could see a situation where I'm on the 5th or 6th game and the localization is starting to get more modern but the mechanics haven't gotten modern enough yet and everything just feels very mid. Hopefully if that happens Olivier will show up and do something funny and I'll be motivated to press on.

Chest messages were made up by XSEED in Sky and Geofront in Zero/Azure. They are not present in the Japanese version.
Lots of people consider Azure the best in the series. There is not much consensus on which is the best game, even if SC and Azure are usually towards the top.

SKY SC is amazing for sure, but I wouldn't say the series goes downward after it.
Azure is probably even better than SC, the Cold Steel games maybe no one reach that level(CS1 and CS3 are close) but the whole quadrilogy is consistently equal/better than other arcs, and the last one Daybreak 1 is excellent, Daybreak 2 a bit filler, and Beyond the Horizon is at least at the same level as SC/Azure.

Absolutely. And some of them have pretty important roles too, with lots of screen time (not as much as the new cast of each arc of course, but still relevant).
Josette shows up later in the Erebonia arc, and there is a good reason for that, it links back to the Capua backstory.

Yep. Trails games are all connected and characters from different arcs routinely show up in other Trails games, sometimes just as cameos, but other times as fully playable characters.

and it's just thoughtful dialogue overall. You can tell the devs put a lot of love into trying to bring their characters to life so even minor npcs can be funny or interesting

Btw I know it's tempting to go and have a look at the Trails wiki to see whether a character is coming back or not and other stuff about the lore/world, but there are MASSIVE spoilers there, sometimes even in the first paragraph of an article.
So I recommend not looking at the wiki, even for characters/lore of the current arc.
