Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter takes about 80 hours to complete, doubling playtime of original

This makes me significantly less interested in it.
i never played the original (at least to completion, since I started it a few times) precisely because its reputation for being fairly long and grind-friendly discouraged me a bit, so you can imagine how I feel about this news.

I know JRPGs are known to be long, but I wish they kept their length under 50 hours.
and here I am thinking that any JRPG under 50-60 hours is too short.

80 hours for main story + sidequests is the sweet spot for me, assuming the JRPG is reasonable and doesn't go down the path of having a lot of missable content, which I absolutely hate.

I can't see this being a good thing. If the original had tight pacing to tell its story I see this negatively impacting the overall product.

I'll wait for reviews impressions on here, and then see if I should stick with the OG or this.

This was supposed to finally onboard me to the franchise but fucking 80 hours?

Son…

I'm fine with 80 or 40, it's just gotta be good

this is my jumping in point to trails, so if it's as good as it needs to be, I'll be buying a whole bunch of confusingly chronologically arranged titles

Man I'd love to get this physical on Switch but I want to know if it will be enhanced at all for Switch 2, at this point 5 weeks out they haven't said anything so I feel like it will just be a crusty low-res Switch 1 version and that's it.

Yea same. It's kind of ridiculous that Switch 2 is now out and they still haven't said a single word about how it will interact or play on the system or if it will have its own edition.

Maybe they are trying to decide if they do or don't want to announce its on a game-key card, given how poorly the reception to those have been (i.e. they don't want negative press)

That's ok! There was a time where I would feel the same. I spent an embarrassingly long portion of my childhood and adolescence playing long JRPGs. I just can't justify sinking a lot of time in them like I used to.

Yep, this is kind of crazy. Doubling the playtime by increasing map size and "exploration"!? Why!?

At least if they inserted some interesting additional quest lines or characters, it would be more palatable, but just bumping up the world size to pad the length is not fun at all.

If you were looking into getting the first game for a story with tight pacing this isn't it. This first game is a very slow paced journey and more about getting to know the world\universe\country you are in. I don't really see how they could double the time but I also skipped all the side quest in the first game because I didn't understand what these devs were doing at first.
