Trails in the Sky 1st (Remake of Trails in the Sky) Announced - 2025

Bought the original version, I cannot get past slotting the magic or whatever at the very beginning. I don't understand what the game wants me to do, all the system-specific wordings are super confusing.
At the desk you speak with the person and they give you a bunch of "gems."

If you talk to the person at the counter you can then "open slots". You need a certain amount of each color for each character to open a slot.

Once you do that go into your character menus and go to orbments. Slot a gem into the open slot you opened up. I gave Josh black and Estelle blue. That way she can heal, and I think Josh can only take black in his first initial open slot.

Then talk to the person at the counter.

You will now know how to slot and unslot magic as well as how to open more slots later to equip more magic.

It's pretty simple but you need to read…

In addition to what was already said, regarding the terminology:
  • Septium are crystals that contain the power of elements (fire, wind, etc).
  • The power extracted from septium crystals is called orbal energy.
  • Sepith are small fragments of septium (sometimes they are called septium fragments).
  • Quartz are synthetized circuits made out of many sepith fused together. They make it easy to use orbal energy.
  • Orbments are devices that use quartz, converting their potential orbal energy into something physical: heating a stove, powering a turbine, etc.
  • Combat orbments are devices that use quartz to enable you to cast orbal arts ("magic" in Trails).
So if a character says something like "slot in your quartz in your combat orbment to use orbal arts", it should make more sense now.

Seems like September is the release month. It's expected since Falcom usually release their games in September, end of their FY iirc.

It honestly feels like the industry is just relying on remakes and remasters. 🤔
Falcom is putting out new titles in their 2 big series (Trails and Ys) on a consistent basis, my man...

Regardless, this remake is needed in order to onboard new players into the Trails series.

Yeah, I think for a series like this that is a continuing story, you need to go back and make everything available on modern platforms. If they get the first three (Liberl Arc) on PS5 in some form, the whole story can be played from there.

This serie need commitment no roundabout it. If someone saying that "Yyou don't need to play all games", that person couldn't really catch the essence of Trail games. Sorry it sounds like a "gatekeeping" or whatever but it is simply the fact about this serie. Of course you can play any game whenever you want but for Trails games you will be %99 percent clueless.

So when you look at this way, it may seem understandable for Falcom to Remake the first game. I'm a big, hardcore fan so I love old Trails of The Sky games, I can even play them this moment without zero complain but let's face it: People are not like me and nowadays you mostly capture gamers through graphics.

Yeah, I'm not complaining one bit. Just one concern: When you bring more people to niche games, developers tend to change in some bad ways to appeal for everybody. I hope it will not come to that.

I'm a Trails superfan and think it's great that they are remaking Sky 1, but I really hope they plan on remaking 2 & 3 as well and announce those remakes before 1 is released.

Sky 1 and 2 are essentially one game split into two and you're going to have a lot of new players wanting to continue the story and it's going to be quite jarring to go from the Sky 1 remake to the original Sky 2, if that game isn't remade.

I've purchased the first few Trials games on PSP (Vita?) back in the day and every time I want to get into the series, it feels like another title is releasing. It's just far too daunting. It reminds me of the Yakuza series, which I love, but am completely exhausted by Sega's release cadence.

I have no info but I think you are safe. They will remake sky 2 and 3.

If you read opinions online and go back far enough you always get lots of sky lots of azure mentioned as one of the best games in the series.

This company is known for making some odd moves but I think without a doubt they will want to proceed with the sky remakes. The reason is simple. As you mentioned, these games require dedication to fully appreciate and sky series is so old it is past barrier to entry almost to gatekeeping. They want to keep these games going so imho they will bring the sky games all up to date in some way. These will be brought forward not just for their individual revenue but for the health of the overall catalog.

I think they will remake them but they have to see how well the games sells first. If it bombs then of course they wont continue doing it.

A couple of weeks ago I saw a "Trail of..." game for the PS4, and wanted to give it a try.

I totally forgot they were going to remake this. I will be sure to get a copy of its physical release when it launches!

Remaking SC is no brainer. Lots of assets, characters and locations are re-used, so it's going to happen for sure.

I'm more worried about these remakes slowing down the release of new Trails games. I get why they are doing these remakes, but I would prefer they focus on releasing new games so I can see the end of the series before I croak.

I'm not sure if the word Id use is "relying" but yea...they are definitely acknowledging how much easier it is to take a game with an already established cast of characters and story etc and just modernize it or upgrade the graphics and sell that instead of creating an entirely new IP/story and being as successful

Cant wait, after the demo this game has become my most hype game this year.

I do hope they also remake the rest as well.

Yep I'm the same way. I'm fine with the developers trying to make it easier for the gamers who never played a Trail games. So I'm fine with the remake but since I played throught the TITS Trilogy, I'm not gonna to play the remake right away, it's most likely a 2026 thing. I'm currently waiting on the last Kuro No Kiseki game and that's one I'll be playing right away once an MTL English Fan Patch comes out for it

My issue what the remake is exactly what you said, is that if it does sell a lot more than are some of the gamers gonna to try force changes within the story so it doesn't offend some person feelings

It has happened with anime somewhat, where it became super popular but than the result being that for a while lot of the stuff that was being released ended up being kind of bland. Even to the point of censoring anything involving fanservice

I'm a huge Dandadan fan and seeing how much success it's been getting due to anime makes me happy but at the same time makes worried due to there's been certain things being said about the anime and manga from certain groups of people that just feel like they want to force the anime and the manga to change. I'm happy that Mangaka is successful but it's a double edged sword. I really hope the mangaka doesn't listen to these groups but I think there's been lot of examples of other mangaka listening to these tourists and regretting it immediately. So I hope he's at least aware of that happening. I've been a fan of the manga since the beginning

Same with Falcom

I do agree that people that never played a Trails game need to play all of them. That's what I did even though I played them out of order and didn't play the Crossbell games till they came out here officially. I kind of wish I learned how to apply fan translation patches to games sooner since I would have played all of the Trails games earlier

Still no GOG Relase. All games are on GOG, makes no sense.
different publisher than the previous games, maybe it'll go up at launch? right now you can't pre-purchase it anywhere digitally

edit: though doesn't look like GungHo has put anything on GOG so probably not

Since this forum lacks dedicated Kiseki thread (or I don't know about one)...

Here it goes, need to get this off my chest. Finished SC just a few hours ago. And oh boy, it's sooooo good to be able to update your pantheon of great games when you a 36yo mostly burnt-out gamer.

Hands-down, one of the best jPRGs that I've played, like ever. Story, worldbuilding, characters and writing are among the best in the genre. It is also not as bad as I thought visual-wise, though sometimes cute chibis are clashing with pretty heavy and gritty writing. And it way more ambitious and longer than FC too.

That being said, I will gladly pay more for a proper remake (that is apparently in the making at Falcom), because this brilliant story and unique world must be rediscovered by the larger audiences. I do hope that Sky 1st will get all the spotlight it deserved. You really should pre-order this game if you love good stories, great characters and terrific worldbuilding, because possible SC remake will be even more glorious.

And yes. Bestelle 4 life. Easily the best and actually strong FMC written in gaming.

You just started with Trails or it's the Sky trilogy specifically you haven't played before? Opinions could be different of course, but the next arc Trails from Zero/Trails to Azure considered to be even better by most, especially TtA.

FC/SC are my first Trails games. Currently on 3rd and what a great and delightful wrap-up it is.

We must remedy that.

The Biggest Trails Stan ( NotMyProblemAnymoreCunt NotMyProblemAnymoreCunt ) should take care of that. :messenger_relieved:

3rd is really good. I remember the discussions people had about this being skippable, lmao. It basically sets up the next two arcs (Crossbell and Erebonia) and expand the overall lore, probably it's one of the most fundamental games in Trails.

I'm nervously anxious about the Switch 2 upgrades. For some reason this game chugged, even on my PC. Hopefully it's 60 fps/ at least 1080p on Switch 2. But 1440p would be ideal, and seems like it should be do-able. it's not like it's a super high-end AAA game, at least visually. I couldn't tell if the Switch 1-only demo played on Switch 2 was upgraded or not to take advantage of Switch 2, it seemed like it ran 60 fps but it's so hard to tell with some games.

It is also instrumental for understanding a lot of returning characters too, their backgrounds and motivations. Plus Kevin is a real G, really like the guy.

I regretted setting zero/azure on hard cause i got walled for a while at some boss fights. But on the other hand I actually had to make use of positioning of my teams. Which I didn't really do in the later games on normal where I just powered everything

I'm pretty sure there's a general The Legend of Heroes thread. If there's no thread, I'm too lazy to make one 👀

3rd is one of my least liked out of the games. I don't think it's bad, I find Kevin to be a boring protagonist. I did like the story though. But for me, I always give Trails games an A Grade due to the story/cast and gameplay

I've really been enjoying playing the newer games on nightmare and going for plat. It's not too tough either after the first chapter or so. I've only had to grind like twice and for like 40 mins total.

I may create a dedicated Trails thread but I don't like half ass job. It may serve as a complete guide and discussion area.

I need to think about it.

I'm gonna do it but it will take a bit time. Need to refresh my memories and put together a good amount of info.

Hope it will be a decent one.

My god animation during battle is sooooo good!

I want to play this game so badly!

i know some of those characters from playing Cold Steel :O
sexy trailer. wonder how they adjusted the battle system, like i wouldn't mind some qol, but i hope they kept the core identity of it. I appreciate how the tech. evolved thruout the games.

It's the Trails through Daybreak combat system mixed with the Cold Steel link attack system. The Quartz system is the same as Sky, where elemental values are summed up to unlock Arts.

I haven't played the demo but it seems like a good balance.

Well I beat it. Not the demo, I started the steam release of the psp version on pc with Japanese voices modded in 3 weeks and played through it. My first trails game.

I've had my eye on the series for a while. Because a lot of gaffers like it I did some youtube research and got more and more intrigued. Estelle is the best gel? It's a long running series that connects its characters and world really well? Sounds good! I wanted to play but of course where to start when the early games look so ancient? I don't want to start a good series with its low quality of life early entries and bounce off it if starting at cold steel would work better. So when I saw the great looking remake of first chapter I was delighted as this was the obvious entry point for a newbie.

But... when I actually saw footage of people playing the demo, I got really concerned. As modern as the presentation and combat mechanics are, so too is the writing and dialogue. I was shocked when Estelle's iconic "why is my present a boy" line was changed, or that a country that had the same name for like 11 games had its name changed. Estelle's dad no longer says "of course I am, I'm her father!" anymore, its kind of a bummer. Not to say all these modern changes are the usual power tripping political extremists holding entertainment hostage, things like the empty chests having individual jokes removed is also a downer. It kind of seemed the classic old school jrpg flavour was being stripped out of the game. So I panicked and started playing the original instead a month before the remake releases.

And I had a great time! Combat mechanics and systems are all solid, not amazing but acceptable, and the game is a good challenge on hard mode. But the care given to its characters, story and world are what elevate FC to a great game. It's a very fun and charming adventure with a great localization from before the gaming industry went crazy. I'm still gonna play the remake and I hope it's great but no matter how good it is, I won't be waiting around for SC remake. The next game for me after the remake is definitely SC on steam.

I'm gonna do it but it will take a bit time. Need to refresh my memories and put together a good amount of info.

Hope it will be a decent one.
Finished. Go check it out dudes (and ladies).
