Trails in the Sky the 3rd |OT| Time's the Charm

so, i have a lot of stuttering, anyone with the same problem?

was not the case on FC and SC

Hmm is it a laptop? Because these games don't like switchable graphics and it looks like this time around older integrated intel graphics aren't good enough to hold 60 fps. On close spaces it runs well but when the camera is really far back or rendering these massive airships it dips well below 60 fps in mine.
If it's not that try d3d8 wrapper. A lot of people have recommended it.

About to try using that wrapper, actually, since I finally got some drops on the Lusitania deck myself.

Prologue get! Now it's time for the Tita chapter, and to enjoy some of that funky music.

Still stuttering for me on Windows 8.1, with and without the Hardware Vertex Shading disabled. It's 125FPS on the title screen and in the menus, but 58FPS max when actually playing the game.

Did you try switching between automatic and 60fps?

They do, unless you turned off steam cloud for some reason.

Which difficulty did you guys choose? I chickened out and picked normal lol
I managed to survive 5 battles on Nightmare before calling it quits and backing down to Hard.
On the bright side, the Prologue battles feel like a breeze now by comparison.

It should automatically find it if you played on the same PC, but the location is Saved Games/FALCOM/ED6_SORA2 if you want to do it manually.

Yeah, this fixed all the stuttering problems I had with FC, SC and Xanadu Next. Just put the two files from the .zip in the same folder as the game's .exe. Also, at least for me, it only works if the Direct3D8DisableMaximizedWindowedModeShim setting in d3d8.ini is set to 1.

First bugs I noticed where when you get the option to swap party members and setting a support character. The highlight animation wasn't over the buttons for either of them.

May have been fixed already, I only downloaded the first patch that hit right when the game launched so far.

Someone in QA really didn't like having to watch those S-Crafts over and over is my guess =)

Awesome of them to add that feature in though. It's wonderful since by the end you've probably seen that animation a bazillion times.

I tried dgVoodoo earlier but I'll give that wrapper a shot when I can. It's newer Intel Integrated so it's probably doable, but the stuttering is a bit annoying.

EDIT: And the dgVoodoo DID make the game more consistent but didn't guarantee 60 FPS... in the early bits on the airship. May need to play around, or just use the wrapper.

I had the stuttering - with d3d8 wrapper my fps counter still says 57 or 58 fps, but the game feels a lot smoother. Glad for that, it was the same for SC and I just had to sort of get used to it.

Yeah, it goes up to 125FPS if I set it to Automatic. I can't get it to just stay locked at a max of 60FPS regardless of the mix of settings I've tried.

You might want to try automatic for a bit longer. I'm getting 125 FPS too but there isn't any stuttering or tearing even though my monitor is 60 Hz. I get stuttering and 58 FPS if I use the 60 cap, but automatic seems fine.

If anyone could help me figure out how to run it on my MacBook Pro, that'd be swell (PMs welcome). I forgot my PC back home is a clunker and would be a pain to get it to run on.

Tita's mom reminds me way too much of the overbearing moms I've known in real life

Played through the prologue slowly.

Erika faces are the best, like an older Estelle lol.

Boss gave me a nice surprise on the first try, luckily I was better prepared in the retry.

The gunning minigame is really hard on the default settings. I was having a hard time with the minigame on easy just because I couldn't move the reticle around fast enough to hit everything. Probably a whole lot easier with the sensitivity adjusted.

The boss music in this game is some epic greatness, and that's saying something coming from the previous two games.

Speaking of which, the boss of chapter one came perilously close to blowing me up. Thank goodness for Grail Sphere and having 3 characters with healing crafts.

Bah I can't find my wired 360 controller and the switch pro controller doesn't work on pc with a cable and I don't have a blu tooth dongle

So, sorry for coming off as a noob, but... how do I use this? I put these two files in my game folder, but when I select the nvidia adaptor, it does nothing and goes to use the Intel HD graphics chip anyway. Or am I misunderstanding how this works?

And yes, it is a laptop with freaking optimus technology...

I think it manages to improve performance anyway, or at least it did for Xanadu Next. Guess modern hardware just doesn't play nice with DX8 period.

Try dgVoodoo, though that hasn't given me stable 60 FPS from my limited experience.

I'm running it on my bootcamped MacBook Pro. If you want to go that route, I can help, but I don't really know anything about the wine wrapper route.

Is the fight in Star Door 1 with
Julia vs Mueller
even possible on nightmare? I'm playing on normal and squeaked by it with 2k HP and no EP left. Can't imagine how that would be possible if the opponent were even stronger.

You're boned. I'm in the same situation. I mean the game runs mostly 125 fps but it does drop below 60 often.
With the first two Trails games and the Ys games it was the same, it was always using the intel integrated graphics, but those games had much lower requirements so they always ran 60 fps no matter what.
Look up if you can completely turn off the integrated intel graphics in the BIOS. I know my laptop can't do it.

Apologies if this has been asked too many times already, but are there any known projects to transfer this script to the japanese PSP release? I've been wanting to get into this series for the longest time and even bought the first game on PSN (still haven't started it), but I really, really dislike playing on PC, so if such a project existed I'd happily buy this now on PC to support the release and start the first game right away without worrying about how I'll play this one later on (yes I'm aware we're lucky that we got this at all).

A good pun AND hilariously on the nose. Man, the localization team is on fire.

That may not be the best way to put it. I had a house fire today, and though we originally thought it to be a very stupid accident, we learned that the family in the other half of our duplex received their eviction papers yesterday.

Oh, crap. I'm so sorry. Completely unintentional on my part. :|

So I've played FC but not SC yet... Not sure I'm liking the sound of this game being a dungeon crawler type thing taking place in some other dimension. Seems such a departure from FC. Bit bummed by that tbh.

It "takes place" in another dimension, but you're going to see plenty of Liberl. I wouldn't worry about it.

It IS a departure in terms of structure from FC. But after SC, you will probably welcome it.
