Lando is perhaps a better comparison, I was just making the point that 3rd as a concept is rather similar to those movies.
Honestly, from a personal perspective I'm very worried about not having NPCs since they were what made Liberl come alive for me in the first two. I have faith in the people who cited this as their favourite Sky game though and am excited for lots of lovely background stories and lore.

Easy, lol. I just want to kick back and enjoy the lore in my first playthrough. Saving Nightmare for my eventual second playthrough.
Normal for first playthroughs.
so, I talked with everybody in the party, around the hall too and then I read Carnelia again and that was one hour of my playtime.
10/10 would do it again.
I haven't looked yet, so these are not my favourite of achievements because it means playing a game several times, I'm not starting on nightmare, no.

No way I'm playing a Trails game on Nightmare, that's reserved for the Ys games (how do you even write the plural for Ys btw? Ys', Ys's, Yses? lol)
Kind of bums me out that there's a nightmare achievement for a game like this tbh. Although SC wasn't a stranger to bullshit achievements either. The gambling one was fucking awful.

EDIT: And admittedly I CAN overthink those analogies (re: Star Wars analogy.) But yeah, he's definitely a significant character in SC, even if he's at best a late addition to the core cast, so comparing him to a minor side character wasn't quite correct. It's not like the 3rd stars Anton here.

You get some accessories. One of them really helps in the early game with a CP regen effect.

Just got started, and it's so good to be back in one of these games again. The start is pretty interesting, so I can't wait to get further into the game.
Started on Hard, am on Chapter 1 and just got
Structure of the game is definitely a bit jarring considering the other games in the series, but I like how after the prologue you get into the action pretty much immediately.
Also just based on the gameplay up to this point Hard mode is NOT messing around this time.

I noticed a bevy of mislabeled quest book pages and other assorted typos (including one instance of Zane, you can't rewrite all history Sara!) I presume stuff like that is what's being patched.

I'll play these games some year in the future, but I've done what needs to be done and bought 3rd as well.
Hopefully it does good, and we get the two middle games too.
But, you know, we're doomed to just FF15 level crap from now on, most likely. Form has already won over substance, it's a lost battle.

I've encountered some minor localization errors (grammar and the like) but nothing too egregious thus far.
I'll be litigious in tracking the treasure chest counter to make sure there aren't hiccups like the past two games. So far so good on that front.

I'm not sure if it's a typo but early on I felt a character should've said certainly instead of certain.

Yeah, I spotted that one myself. Definitely struck me as a typo.
The only thing that's giving my decision to roll with Nightmare some pause is whether New Game+ carryovers will make knocking that out academic.
In which case, I may just dial back my playthrough and revert to Hard.

can anybody answer the question about what carries to ng+ in 3rd? Maybe Aeana? Because a lot depends on that with those difficulty achievements
Well, I already started on normal, after reading here that it's harder than SC, and SC hard is hella hard. But still it would be nice to know.

You can carry over everything or nothing, or whatever combination of things you like, basically. Same New Game+ options as FC and SC.

No. It's kind of like a huge standalone expansion pack / epilogue for Trails in the Sky.
You're going to want to go Trails in the Sky FC (First Chapter) -> Trails in the Sky SC (Second Chapter) and then this.

This. Don't start with this game, it's a direct sequel to SC which is a direct sequel of Trails in the Sky. It assumes you have an understanding of the characters and story from those and a grasp on the gameplay (no tutorial or explanation of anything).

TitS 3rd hit #1 on GOG's popular list pretty damn quickly... which probably doesn't mean a whole lot, but it's always surprising when it's not some shitty Eurojank RPG polluting the top.
She is probably my favorite character in the series and I'm only three hours in. She is perfect.

Any missables in this one (like quests in other Trails games) or can I play this one without a guide?
EDIT: By which I mean any of the following: Any ways to permanently bungle door requirements, any missable characters or techniques, any particular character combinations I should have in certain areas to view special cutscenes (like the leadup to the end in SC), or any special equipment I can get by doing certain things (book collections, etc.)?

I love how they don't even bother to show a tutorial or introduce the characters.
It's Kevin's crazy wild ride from the very beginning. And the music is fantastic.
