Trails of Cold Steel (Sen no Kiseki) getting Limited Edition

The third, fourth, and fifth games aren't being localized because Sen is more marketable with its more modern presentation and is available on "current" consoles. This is despite Zero and Ao being considered the best games in the series by most series fans that I know.
Isn't Zero also a massive game, comparable to (or even exceeding?) Second Chapter? In due time they might release Third, Zero & Blue, if the franchise remains profitable enough for them.

I am confused. Are they saying we can pre-order the standard edition now or would LE be immediately available for pre-order?

You have been able to pre-order the standard edition for a while now

The LE will be up for pre-orders in about a week.

If Europe doesn't get this I won't have the temptation to double dip since I went full digital on Vita.

I am all over this. Pretty much any rpg XSEED helps bring stateside has my monies. I like the foreword thinking packaging with the thought of storing the sequel next year in it. Hopefully that gets a fancy limited edition too, since I have no intention on actually keeping the second on in this box because I doubt I'll even open it, since I will definitely be double dipping here.

What kind of games are these, I want to know more but from a serious fan.

Story driven, turn based combat rpgs. They are so story driven infact, that I would not suggest even taking a glance at them unless you are able to sit down and enjoy the story in a long game (since there seems to be quite a few on here that hate game stories with a passion). The combat gets better with each game, just it is not the forefront of the experience.

In other words, do you like deep character development and world building? If so this is probably a series to look into.

That said, I think it's a mess that we're getting trailers from half-localized builds. We're this close to release and I'd rather see a fully localized trailer than more gameplay footage of the same half-localized build we've seen in the past.

Zero and Ao both have ridiculously huge scripts, yes. 3rd is actually lighter on script size compared to the other games. If SC sells well, 3rd shouldn't be out of the question. Zero and Ao have some additional technical issues involved with their localization though beyond just their huge script sizes. Even if XSEED claims that they want to do those games someday, I highly doubt we'll ever see an official release of them in English.

Just want to add extra things :)
There are also a lot of side quest, some of the games may have about up to 60% side quests. Although most of them are simple fetch quests or battle-related quests, they all tell a story. Some are simple quests, but others introduces NPCs and develops them in a way that makes you feel that they too, are a part of the story that the main protagonists are going through. In short, lots of text.

And I would really like XSEED work on the Zero and Azure games later as they will probably tie in with the next Trails of Cold Steel game due to
the last chapter in the second game
.

And btw, am I the only one who though the battles in the English trailers were kinda quiet?

Awesome clamshell box. Very cool that it will house both games.

Definitely gonna upgrade my preorder when this goes up. It'll look nice next to my TitS Collector's Edition. :)

That special edition looks fantastic. Can't wait.

Having played all the games in Japanese actually you really SHOULD play the 4th and 5th games before this one but as stated by XSEED numerous times that is just not logistically and financially feasible at this time. You don't HAVE TO but in my personal opinion as of right now stands that you should. Given that it's not an option for probably 98% of XSEEDs market though this decision is certainly understandable.

I am actually a little excited to see how they localize some of the story events that directly relate to games 4 and 5. They are going to have to be very careful with some of the scenes in case they go back and localize the previous installments some day.

I just updated the OP with more info from Gematsu, it is in fact an art book.

Hmm, not sure I'm interested in it for just another case and art book. I'd rather just get it digitally. If it was a guide, I'd spring for it.

Aren't guides just bloated art books nowadays lol? Honestly not sure what the purpose of guides are anymore, when the same information can be found anywhere online.

Zero is currently being fan translated, and I believe Blue may follow suit.

The one with nothing in the works is Third.

Figures that there is no soundtrack since it is already in itunes and it is excellent. However some arranges like the one in the YS celceta limited edition would make me buy.

Looking at the gameplay of the game I'm pretty interested. Being a first time player of Legend of Heroes is this a sequel to any other heroes game or can I get right into it with this game itself?

Yeah, it certainly makes the project appear like it's being shotgunned through even though they've been working away at it for quite some time now. Still, they seem pretty proud of the localization and voice work, so I have faith it'll turn out great.

I'd highly recommend checking out this post below which gives you a good breakdown of things. "Game 1, 2 and 3" are all the Trails in the Sky series, which are much older titles that were released on the PSP in Japan and have had a rocky journey on their localization here. 6 and 7 are Cold Steel 1 and 2 respectively.

No, they're all related. Here's how the split works from what I know.

Games 1 and 2 are their own complete story. Game 3 is a sequel to games 1 and 2 with the same cast, but also sets up future plot developments in later games.

Games 4 and 5 (Zero and Ao) are their own story arc. It stands on its own, but there are some events in this game related to previous games.

Games 6 and 7 are their own story arc. They mostly stand on their own up until near the end of game 7, where characters from games 4 and 5 come into play (including straight up spoilers for some pretty major stuff). Due to the way game 7 ends the next game will likely continue this story arc and may bring more things from games 4 and 5 into play.

So what the point by releasing this one by skipping the others? Is this serie like FF games where the stories aren't related?

Timing. PS3 and Vita are on the way out so getting them out in a timely manner is pretty important.

Trails of Cold Steel is also considered a jumping in point by Nihon Falcom. The story itself is standalone. It, however, has elements that connect to the other games for folks that have played and understand what went on those games. They reference the other games but only on a surface level where you'll be thinking that has to do something with the other games but they won't say what actually is going on, for the most part.

Damn only ten bucks more?? Getting for sure. Can't wait for this. Got Zestiria, Yokai, and this all pre-ordered and shit. So many good RPGs coming out. And of course TitS 2 if it ever comes out.

That's what I've always liked about guides though. They are artbooks with useful info. Guide by itself (no art) is lacking. Artbook by itself is also lacking. For me at least.

At this rate, there is no way I'll be done with SC by the time Cold Steel releases. I'll still buy them both, but Cold Steel will go on the shelf for a little while.

oh well, I can't expect the same limited from NISA can I.

guess I'll spend $80 and import this.

Haha, this game is going to come out before TitS SC isn't it?
I remember that "it'll be ready soon, just some QA left" thread many months ago. lol

rip in kiseki

I don't normally buy physical Vita games, but this Collector's Edition is good enough and cheap enough for me to bite. Totally in for that 2-game box. I'm certain the art book will be tiny and disappointing, but the pin will also be a nice bonus.

someone bump this in a week so I remember to pre-order. Working Designs is such a great company... I mean XSEED.

What's the reception on this game for those who played the JP version? It looks like lots on fun based on the videos I have seen.
