My install of KOTOR keeps crashing at various loading screens when I'm transitioning between areas. So I'm going to try uninstalling it and then reinstalling it, but if that doesn't work, combined with some other operational weirdness I think it's just time for a fresh XP install anyway.

I'm guessing to save my current character and saves I just have to backup the "saves" folder, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else I should backup as well if anyone knew. Thanks.

If you happen to have an ATI Radeon card you need to upgrade to ATI Catalyst 4.11 for the "Crash between loading areas" bug to go away. It has been a persistant and annoying bug in the last couple of (five or six..) Catalyst releases. Do not install Catalyst 4.12 unless you are going to be playing Half Life 2 as I have seen mention of poor performance with the updated OpenGL driver (a new bug.) If you have to install Catalyst 4.12, just use winrar to extract the OpenGL driver from the 4.11 installation exe (Driver\2KXP_INF\B_XXXX\atioglxx.dl_) and expand it (use "expand atioglxx.dl_ atioglxx.dll" from commandline) then copy it to the base KOTOR directory, the game will default to 4.11 OpenGL drivers.

Backing up the saves folder is enough to back up save games.
