Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

"Michael Bayonetta" = top tier stream title

If I had to guess I would say the title screen, ending, and some of the boss intro music is Vince and Kenny, while the majority of the gameplay music is by Platinum.
So what's you're saying is, we need to mobilize on Twitter and make some noise?

Transformer fans, roll out!

My god though, the soundtrack is phenomenal in this game! I keep pausing to find the tracks on YouTube.

The next P* action game needs to have witch time and rising-style parries.

Bayo-style parry is shit.

Muh Third Strike parries. I like how this game does have both of Bayonettas dodges though.

Have a stylish-no hit-commander-Motormaster boss ;D

So I bought this because Platinum is my current favorite studio and I buy all their games at release for full price, but I was indifferent about the Transformers property. They're cool and all but I never got into any of the shows and only had a few of the toys as a kid. This game is so awesome it's actually making me give a shit about Transformers to the point that I want to buy some of the higher end figures now.

Sort of feel as though this game is having its issues overlooked purely because of nostalgia/platinum love.

I mean, the combat system is very good and, even being awful at the game, I can see why people love it. But everything around that? The terrible driving, the loot system, the poor level design etc. really bring it down for me.

I guess I was hoping that I'd enjoy it as much as the High Moon games and, while I like the idea of G1 Transformers more, I'm just not feeling it. Then again, I've never been a huge fan of Platinum outside of Vanquish (and sort of MGS: Rising) so that certainly plays a factor.
The crude driving sections last like what, all but 10 minutes throughout the entire campaign combined? While not exactly highly enjoyable, they're a lot easier to swallow than the loot management shoved down my throat, the lack of a manual lock-on and the game insisting I activate an auto-repair because I happen to have it in my possession.

Personally, the level design complaints leave me indifferent. I'd rather have basic environments like this game and some of Platinum's previous works (see: God Hand) than having to endure obnoxious or cringeworthy gimmicks peppered throughout the likes of Devil May Cry or especially Bayonetta 1. I don't care about flat platforming or solving mindnumbing puzzles, these type of distractions always feel unsatisfying and they're a waste of time and effort for everyone involved.

Fighting
Devastator and Menasor at the same time
was prob my biggest holy shit moment of the game. I had to do it with super low health too so that made it even more intense.

I was a little disappointed we never got to fight the individual Stunticons outside of Motormaster but eh, can't win em all. Now to mess with the challenge mode and higher difficulties.

Edit:
the game insisting I activate an auto-repair because I happen to have it in my possession.

I hated that. I would have greatly preferred they gave me the option to take the loss and restart instead of forcing me to use a repair kit. =/

At first I was surprised that
Motormaster and Menasor were in the game...
Then I realized the enemy types in the game and it all made sense :P

Likewise for the exact same reasoning. I'm crossing my fingers that they'll be filtered out for the higher difficulties, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

How do you collect kremzeeks?
Same way you pick up cars, intel and such, except you have to be close enough for kremzeeks.

Holy shit Challenge 20 on commander. You face 50 decepticons in total, including every boss in the game except Megatron and Soundwave.

Miraculously, I SS'd it on my first try, somehow. It was 15 minutes or notstop nuttery. I used up every healing item I had. I won't have to do this ever again, mercifully.

The difficulty of this game is really entirely dependent on the loot you have.

So are people looking at the Loot System as more of a Pro or a Con?

It's the main reason I want to buy the game... as it is the main reason I would keep playing it over and over... scores mean nothing to me, but Loot is a worthy goal to work on.

I... I need this game...

The fact that there are a lot of different weapon types and they actually look different and have different properties and effects is a pro. The implementation of the actual system and how it works in conjunction with the way the gameplay is designed is a con. That's how I see it.

If the loot were far more infrequent (say you get a new weapon for beating a stage boss), and they had fixed stats with no levels and no upgrading system, it would be far better. The current system as it is feels like it is designed for a totally different type of game.

i'm glad that the system is there, but man, it's really poorly executed. Much more cumbersome then it should be.

I don't know why I thought there wouldn't be a fourth unlockable difficulty but I was pleasantly surprised when it unlocked. Yay!

Also, I guess the level cap for stats increased along with it. I thought I was done with Sideswipe but NOPE!

On the other hand I can't possibly imagine the first level on a clean hard run would be nearly as brutal as it is if they weren't counting on the player to play through normal to get loot first. I'm already starting to find powerful weapons in Chapter 2, so that's a bit of a bummer, because the early challenges are simply awesome without broken weapons.

I wish they had made a secret. hand-crafted difficulty setting with set equipment and no upgrades other than pre-determined boss loot. In fact, I'd pay if they released it as DLC!

This is unfortunate, but I need to see video of it in action to judge for myself I guess...

I don't mind that loot management is in the game, I look forward to it... so maybe I'll be more forgiving...

I'd agree with this. The loot system just comes off as something that would've been right at home in a Musou game. As it is right now, it gives me a layer of "loot management" that I really didn't expect nor desire for a game of this sort.

If they do get a sequel, I just hope they address some of these qualms. Because it's got what I think is an interesting idea that most "character action games" don't bother with, short of the likes of Darksiders 2.

This is seriously getting a nod on my soundtrack of the year list. Not sure if it's the best one, probably not, but it's definitely worth a mention.

Finally got my game today. Can't wait to give it a try.

Was Amazon.ca offering the preorder bonuses? I can't recall, and haven't received anything.

I found the early stage 1 (before unlocking weapons) way more difficult than the rest of the level on Commander.

That's why I'm using unupgraded C-ranked weapons to go through stage 2, and it's been a good challenge. I'll just move to higher-tier weapons or do some upgrades if I hit a brick wall. For now, I have S-ranked weapons gathering dust haha.

Maybe it defeats the purpose of the loot system, but I'll consider it a player-controlled extra difficulty slider.

I dunno guys... I'm LOVING what I am seeing here.

Sure, people may be walking into this as a Platinum Action score attack game with a loot system slapped on top of it...

But I'm looking at it as a Diablo-style loot game with Platinum Action gameplay slapped on top of it. :D

Edit: This game will likely never have an |OT2|... but if it did... Transformers: Devastation |OT2| Loot Game in Disguise

Honestly I'm surprised people are saying the loot is broken, though to be fair I've barely messed with it

Once I got my first 'A' drop (hyper cryo sword) I've stuck with that since. Gun wise I'm using A's as well

Nothing seems overpowered, at least on commander. Unless by overpowered you mean it actually seems like your hits do damage compared to the vanilla Devastator fight lol

You seem to like loot systems alot, and I hope not assuming too much, so it might not matter for you.

These sorts of games, character action titles, almost always places the players growth and skill first and never try to stunt that growth arbitrarily. Easing players in with their skill at any level with planned weapon unlocks and the like. Sure, plenty of character action games in the past lock moves behind a cash system but the best games out there had a point-to-cash mechanic to incentivize more of the player's personal growth. Herein lies the problem many might have with the loot system in this game. It rids some of satisfying feeling of growth with the player. It's too random, frequent, and has seemingly a high, high cap for damage in each weapon. One could be disappointed in knowing that the best outcome for each battle and rank isn't so much based on how badass that person fought but how hard that person prayed to the RNGesus and just kept slapping two weapons together.

I went off on a tangent there but if any of that makes sense and it doesn't matter for you, then by all means you might like it.

Skins looks pretty good. I pre-ordered in Holland and when I got my copy they asked me to wait; they gave away the codes for the skins + weapons to everyone who pre-ordered. Sweet.

I think that other portion was outsourced to some Japanese audio company from what I remember in the ending. The name was rather unfamiliar but it wasn't Platinum .

Yep, I died 5-6 times to Megatron but finally winning and getting an SS rank felt satisfying as fuck. A real Platinum Games™ moment

I'm mostly going by what other people are saying since I'm still early on, but even then I got Devastator's drills, and their charge attack does insane damage in a straight line with a fairly wide range. I also got an A rank hammer which, while not really broken, destroys the blue enemies in 2-3 hits versus the 2-3 full combos of the axe.

Ueda is a former Capcom/Clover composer who joined Platinum along with the rest of the crew. He composed for Viewtiful Joe and Okami at Clover, and Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 at Platinum. Definitely in-house. I'm not familiar with Igarashi, but he composed some tracks on Bayonetta 2, so he's probably a newer in-house composer.

Yah, I'm more into RPGs than Action Games, but still very much enjoy how Platinum's games play... so the gear and stat grind in this game is more appealing to me than simply mastering the combat.

I do get why people here who are action game purists would be disappointed that RPG elements are muddying up their action game... they'd rather focus on overcoming difficult encounters through pure skill.

I'm more about the numbers game... but I appreciate the fun combat while I do it. Though I'll never master the combat on the level that others here would... I just get by when playing games like DmC and Bayonetta... I don't come even close to mastering them on any level.

So yah... this game is right up my alley. I don't think I can wait to buy it like I'm trying to do... I'll likely get it tonight!

I see why they put the loot system in after Korra and Rising, these style of games are seen as kinda disposable one and done type deals to a lot of people and thus don't seem like they have any real 'meat' to them to people who don't get into the combat system. The loot system was probably a method meant to counter this perception and maybe it will give some incentive to people to replay the game on a harder difficulty after completing it with all their new loot. Then they can get addicted to the replaying of Platinum games as you dig into the combat system that most of us would be doing.

Maybe someone can make a mod on the PC to just make the loot max infinite so you can just find some weapons you like then ignore the system forever and play it like a regular Platinum character action game.

If you never upgrade or equip a new weapon... can you still progress?

If you never upgrade or equip a new weapon... can you still progress?

Yes but combat can get very grindy in terms of slowly chipping enemies away. It's clearly designed for the player to invest at least a little bit of time into the weapon and TECH system, and some of the bonuses that come with the weapons can be pretty good. Honestly, my objection is not that there's a RPG loot system, so much as how it's not really balanced. Aside from that, it does add more variety and value to the game, and the weapons are impressively different and fun to use, which is something we don't see often in a Platinum game.

Like I said, I think in terms of the actual weapon drops you can get, I think TF fans and loot fans in general will be very happy with. There are also "boss weapons" like Shockwave's blaster form as a gun, and a "Loudspeaker" weapon that mimics Soundwave's sonic attacks. I just wish the overall balance and implementation was handled a bit better overall.

Finally was able to play this myself and loving every bit of it.

It's pretty challenging too for me on the normal difficulty which i like, stops me from just mashing buttons.

And all the G1 love is hitting all the right spots, man I enjoyed hearing Megatron laugh again!

I'm not into the loot system. It feels superficial at best but it doesn't bother me.

This is seriously getting a nod on my soundtrack of the year list. Not sure if it's the best one, probably not, but it's definitely worth a mention.

Heck yes! I think Peter Cullen deserves a huge amount of credit too. The delivery on some of his lines is incredible. Very aggresive and believeable to the character of Optimus Prime. Bad arse character in this game who takes charge.

Finished chapter 1 just now. This game feels super good and the soundtrack is great although I would like to have some vocals. Also the game seems like it is rather hard or I just suck at it.

The main problem alongside what Mr. Smiley already outlined, is that Transformer's back-end system carries very little convenience features that are synonymous with full-fledged loot games in today's day and age. No favourites system. No 'sell all' button. A lack of categorization options. Can't sell gear in the post-chapter screen before you lose track of it with the rest of your junk. Game forbids you to continue any further if you reach the maximum of what your inventory can hold. There's more, so in other words the UI shortcomings just keep piling up on each other in what ultimately results in the definition of a needlessly tacked-on feature.

Best part of Devastation is Optimus talking mad shit about Starscreamer during and after your first encounter against him. It's hysterical.

Alright so i just beat every level with Bumble Bee using the Gauntlets and Sword. I need Character and weapon suggestions Gaf. What have you been enjoying?

"Ever wonder what happens when a truck hits a delicate jet?"

"Megatron was right, you really are useless Starscream."

the best.

Shit even his lines and delivery during Prime Time is great enough to warrant a playthrough.

Knuckles are super fun when they are higher level. Hammers are great for OP damage dealing similar to the sniper rifles. I'm working an energon sword/thermal hammer combo on Optimus. Feels great.

If you have a good heavy machine gun with high damage output and tons of ammo, keep upgrading it and go wild. Starscream's Nullblasters are a ton of fun too, but I wish they had more ammo. Grimlock + high rank energon hammer = FUN TIMES.

Just placed an order for Transformers Devastation and Wooly World.

Still addicted to MGSV/MGO3.

Haven't even started Mario Maker yet.

Man, gaming is good this year.

only finished ch. 1. took me 2,5 hours.

went to try the challenges afterwards on warrior. challenge 1 was easy. challenge 2 on the other hand kicked my ass. looks like i need more loot, eh? gonna try chapter 2 next anyway.

That awesome. You might like the Masterpiece Collection.

Check out Prime, Megatron and Soundwave (make sure to click Next when you reach the bottom. There are a lot of photos). Soundwave with his cassettes is such a cool piece.

Prime with an electric hammer, flame sword, sniper, and shotgun thingie (one of the pre-order bonus weapons) is working out well for me. Sometimes I swap out the shotgunny weapon for my strongest blaster or a missile launcher when I want some extra range.

Good bonuses make a big difference. Attack, attack speed, critical, an elemental effect, and rare weapon drop chance (if you have 5 or 6 slots) are good for melee weapons. Energy (for more ammo), attack, rate of fire, and critical work well for ranged.

Completely. Like I said, his delivery is hilarious yet awesome and very fitting. Even during combat

When rolling on an enemy "Stay down"

So good. So much life in this character(compared to the films).

The UI is definitely an issue. I've been managing my loot by selling anything below A-rank that lacks a level 4 or 5 bonus. The exception being unique weapons or cool variants like Devastator's drills and the sticky gel gun.

I actually really enjoy the loot system despite the management issues. There's more variety than I would have expected. Some weapon variants have hidden effects, and you can create some pretty ridiculous combinations of bonuses with weapons that have 5 or 6 slots.
