New news, new thread?

Article

We booked January 5th to go into the studio. On December 30th, we get an e-mail from Tom's manager saying that he has no interest in recording and that he wants to do his other, non-musical stuff and that he's out indefinitely. There's a flurry of e-mails going back and forth for clarification about the recording and the show and his manager sends [an e-mail] back saying, "Tom. Is. Out." Direct quote. This is the exact same e-mail we got back in 2004 when Tom went on indefinite hiatus before.

So today they announced he was out, then he went on Instagram and said he was in, and now this.

Looks like Tom was trying to keep blink around as his cash cow to fund his other projects, but had no real intentions on putting in any effort and Mark and Travis had had enough.

Tom is such an asshole. The new AVA album is pretty good, though. So, if he wants to do more of that shit, more power to him.

Everything I hear about Tom makes him sound like a douche. It doesn't help that he has one of the worst voices in music.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.

I was watching (or maybe reading) and interview with him where he said he hated emo bands. I just though "you're the entire reason emo in its current state exists, and all the worst parts of it are influenced directly by you." Those Blink 182 inspired vocals made one of the worst genres of rock ever.

He cited Jimmy Eat World as one of his favorite bands. This was back in 1999 before JEW blew up in 2001.

Bullshitter.

Tom is/was my favorite part of Blink.

And honestly, they have been together longer then a ton of other bands.
Not everything has to/should last forever.

Trudat. But now we get an extremely angry sequel to "No, It Isn't", so it's all going to work out.

I was a freshman in high school when that song came out. Deciding between team +44 and Angels & Airwaves was a daily struggle.

Meh, that sucks. I enjoyed Tom in both facets of Angels and Airwaves and Blink-182. Angels and Airwaves is less than desirable at the moment due to a mass exodus of band members from that band. Maybe Tom's just a creative cancer like Axl Rose?

I'll be kind of sad if they're really are breaking up again. I hope Mark and Travis keep the Blink 182 name and find a new guitarist.

Reading that RS interview is incredibly sad, but I'm glad Mark and Travis are gunna do what they finally want and do it in peace instead of waiting on a waffling band mate.

Is there a list of Tom and Mark songs. I want to know if I'm too be sad by his leaving.

Edit: through the interview I think tom has some issues personality wise, like social anxiety or something, never being honest or something. I'm not sure if there is a word for it

The rest is co-written by both Mark and Tom. In most cases the one who sings certain part of the song is the one who wrote the part.

Not sure how accurate this list is, but it looks about right. Mark was always more consistent, but Tom wrote a lot of my favorites post-Enema.

The good ones you remember were Marks.

Looking back there's a few songs I love from Delonge (Anthem Part Two, Always, All the Small Things) but a lot were dual credited.

From where I want the band to go I'd say Hoppus is who I would miss more. I like his twitter feed too

Just on a human level, I fucking love Mark. Dude produced my favorite album of all time and always seems like the most rational and fun member:

His twitter feed is awesome, he interacts with a bunch of fans and weird twitter all the time. Much more down to earth.

And shit, I haven't listened to Motion City Soundtrack since high school. When I went through my 'emo phase' and pop punk was the rage

I may or may not see this played in its entirety next month.

I am.

It's gonna be fucking awesome.

Goddamit, I'm adding a bunch of blink albums and that Motion City album to my phone now. Tomorrow is pop punk day!

Fuck yeah, man! I'm hustling my ass through this storm to see 'em Wed. I never miss a Motion City concert, especially when it's focused on Commit This to Memory.

Read the history of how Tom imploded the band and the dude is a real asshole. This seems like the same bullshit again. That they have to communicate via his manager? What a joke.

Can't argue with you there. A majority of what makes TOYPAJ listenable to me now are Mark's songs (except for Shut Up, which is pretty bad) and I just find that more Mark songs stick with me now that I'm nearing 30. Dammit is still my favorite blink song ever.

I hope they can keep the name. Delonge is an asshat for doing this a second time. Fortunately, I lost respect for the guy when he did this the first time. It's a damn shame, because some of the first songs I learned on guitar were blink songs. Simple to learn, yes, but it definitely helped me. I gave AVA a chance, and after two albums I decided it wasn't for me.

+44 has one solid album with some good tracks, I just wish Carol would have stayed. If they can't keep it, then hopefully they start a new project because I really want to hear new material from Hoppus. I play Carousel every time I pick up a bass.

Looking forward to bootlegs of Skiba with Hoppus and Barker at that gig, though.

The fact that a non-bass solo intro to Carousel exists on Cheshire Cat hurts me down to my soul.

Getting rich and famous has to be the weirdest thing ever. And knowing that you don't realize how fucking weird your life is getting as it happens makes it seem all the weirder.

Like, I assume these guys started out as friends (I know nothing about Blink). They played shows, got a following, worked/lucked their way into a record deal. Probably were so fucking excited for that deal that they all went out and got drunk together to celebrate. Fast forward a couple decades and they're communicating with each other through their separate managers, only seeing each other when they're on the stage and the probably rare moments that they are actually in a studio together (instead of recording their parts separately). The deterioration of inner-band relationships is fascinating.

That story is more on toms side of things. Mark and Travis are still close friends.

I wonder what the original drummer thought of their success after he left

Mark always wrote the better half of their catalogue; his songs always had a more human approach to them. "Lemmings" is pure testament to that. Tom did the wacky bits, some of which were all right, but Mark's stuff always had a more down-to-earth feel to it.
