PORTLAND, Ore. - A Trojan virus is targeting the Sony PlayStation Portable, trying to take advantage of those who try to "hack" the system so they can run their own games.
The virus, which may be the first for the PSP, has been identified by Symantec as the Trojan.PSPBrick.
According to Symantec's Web site, the Trojan.PSPBrick arrives as an archive file named EXPLOIT 2G PSP Team V1.RAR, which consists of the files overflow.tif and h.bin. The user is then instructed to file the h.bin in the root of a USB device and overflow.tif in the folder /PSP/PHOTO/.
In non-technical terms, basically what the virus does is fool people into believing they are downloading a "hack" when they are really downloading the Trojan virus.
The virus then deletes critical files off the PSP, which makes the user unable to restart the device.
For complete information on the Trojan virus, just head to Symantec's Web site.
