Trouble shooting the SNES :: Vertical Lines?

So I moved into my new apartment and decided to pick up all my classic games that my grandmother was keeping for me. I brought back my SNES but upon hooking it up got these bizarre vertical scan lines that only appear in certain layers with some sort of clear alpha channel (Title text, foreground objects etc.) I got pissed and didn't try and fix it, instead opting to pick up her SNES today instead. Hooked it up it worked fine for 20 minutes, but now it is doing the exact same thing.

I thought the problem might be that I tried to use an S video cable but switching back to composite does nothing. Cleaning is my next step (what are some alternatives to a cleaning cart though). But I thought I would check here and see if this is a common problem with old model SNESs.

Help me, I need some SMW2 and Secret of Mana lovin badly.

Happens with any game I use, I already tried another TV as well as different sets of cables, none of those factors remedies it, it is definately the systems.

I just thought it might be a common error (like the old NES "blink") since it happened to two of my old systems.

I'd recommend getting a better more precise gun. I don't think just a vertical line is accurate enough for shooting a SNES from afar. Perhaps a gun with a full crosshair?

Weird.

Outside of some bizarro environmental factor I can't think of (dirty power? bad power supply?), the most likely culprit is a connection problem between the carts and the consoles, perhaps due to dirty contacts. Try wiggling the cart while the lines are visible and see if you can't make them disappear or change appearance while doing so. If you can, you probably found your problem.

Still, weird.
