Truly Weird Stuff Showing Up in Steam Database (Halo, KOF13, other unlikely stuff)

Makes sense maybe. I heard that Square Enix did try to get FFVII on Steam, but couldn't get through cert because they couldn't get it stable on Windows Vista or 7. VIII did have a PC version but I don't know if it fared any better than VII's.

Don't now why they don't just give the two games to GOG.

There really is no cert on Steam.

From what we've heard developers are left to their own ends to produce a product. If its broken then the developers are responsible for a patch, if Valve receives enough complaints they will pull the product and offer refunds.

Square already "fixed" FF7 for modern PCs and is selling it on their own online store, including cloud saving and always-online drm.

Saints Row 4 confirmed.

I've been seeing this entry on the database for weeks.

Its looking more and more like testapps are put up there by the developers for a specific reason.

I've even noticed that when apps for released games are updated, a patch seems to push through that day.

I regards to Halo 3 and KOF. They had to have been put up there because someone was working on a PC port.

Either they were abandoned, or they are still coming. I'm leaning towards the latter because both apps have been updated in the last twenty days, KOF in the last two.

Is anyone else shocked to see MS releasing stuff on Steam rather than the Windows 8 store?

If and when the Halo release gets confirmed, I'll start a thread for speculating on what it all means. Is this a Microsoft-Valve collaboration? A way for Microsoft to make a quick buck from its back catalogue? An indication that Microsoft has thrown in the towel and is giving up on the PC gaming market? A goodwill gesture to get Valve back on board with Windows? I really have no idea.

Oh god, Halo 3 @ 1080p/60fps, Halo Reach w/o shit AA. Please be true.

Edit:
Unless I've missed something, there's no indication of Reach making the jump to PC. I'd say Microsoft will be looking to see how Halo 3 performs before signing off on ports of the more recent Halo titles.

Ah, you're right, my bad.

Windows 8 store requires a limited subset of APIs and the intent is for stuff on it to be WinRT compatible as well. It's a mobile app store that happens to work on some PCs, not a PC games service.

They gave up on GFWL a long while ago and the Windows Store is intended for "modern apps", desktop programs listed there have no back-end or infrastructure and porting the games to the still incomplete WinRT would probably be more work than it's worth.

They could've made a big deal out of the AoE 2 HD release. Porting it to WinRT, make it Windows RT compatible (two different things, don't get confused, you guys!), optimizing it for touch, including Xbox achievements.

But WinRT is still too limited, so I guess a part is technically not possible.

I didn't realize it had to be tablet friendly to qualify. That's really short sighted on MS's part. Apple has no problem with full games on the Mac App Store, and why would they? It's free money.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, though. I want these games on Steam. It's just so unlike MS to do this.

Dam so many great things happening this year for pc. It's like dreams coming true. Hopefully Gears of War appears. I think that is up to Epic though right?

KOF even had an icon.halo i am worried a bit but i have hope. also anyone remember icewind dale and some other old games appeared and never got revealed.

It depends what part of MS you're talking about. In some areas they've ditched their own proprietary way of doing things to adopt a wider, more accepted industry standard.
