Trump’s budget would cut funding for Appalachia — allies in coal country are livid

Hard to not feel schadenfruede in this instance. That orange cunt was voted into office by a lot of these people despite the obviousness of his sham.

IDK, it says in the article he believes that the increase in coal jobs will offset the cuts in grants. Whether that will happen is another question.

Only way it happens is if they subsidize the fuck out of coal and incentivize coal power. Over renewables, over nuclear, hell, over natural gas, since all are superior in almost every way. I don't see how that could happen, then again the unthinkable seems to occur on a regular basis these days, so who knows.

Maybe you shouldn't have voted for a billionaire conman fraudster who has shown time and time again than he gives less of a shit for the common man than he does for his own shit. Literally.
Ya'll got nobody to blame but yourselves. I feel bad, I really do, but ignorance as an excuse will only get you so far when everyone outside your Facebook and Fox News bubble was screaming at you that it was a mistake.

Only way it happens is if they subsidize the fuck out of coal and incentivize coal power. Over renewables, over nuclear, hell, over natural gas, since all are preferable. I don't see how that could happen, then again the unthinkable seems to occur on a regular basis these days, so who knows.

Renewable energy isn't killing coal jobs, that's a lie by the right. Natural gas is killing coal jobs, and coal being a shit source of energy is killing coal jobs. The subsidies needed to make coal a viable source of energy in this day and age would be humongous, and far more than congress would be willing to support.

Amazing that you can get people to vote against their own interests to keep Mexicans out via the wall and to keep Muslims out via the ban. Oh, and "lock her up!" That's the power of racism, and the Republican party is able to channel and use it despite doing absolutely nothing for the lower income and uneducated white people that form the core of their base.

Time to experience the consequences of your actions. It sucks to watch people suffer when the solution is easy but these people will never get it, it seems.

/shrug.

I don't feel any sympathy for them.

I can't muster it either.

Quoting myself from a few months back

We've always voted like this. However, this election turned into who could tell the better lie.

Trump told downtrodden White America, especially in places like Ohio, Pennsylvania and others that the good paying jobs are coming back. They aren't and the people that have those jobs now; some will lose them before they retire. Globalization won't allow it to happen any other way.

That said, both parties did a piss poor job retraining people that did lose their jobs.

In one of the last quoted sections, it mentioned that coal was in terminal decline, but then attributed the decline to efforts to combat climate change, which is just flat out wrong. I thought to myself "this sounds like something that would come out of Vox" and sure enough...

Coal is in terminal decline because of competition from natural gas and (soon) the plummeting cost of renewables like solar. Coal is dying because it is expensive and inefficient, not because it's harmful.

We are talking about a group that literally wants to dangerously toil in the ground, get black lung and die an early death to the point they would defund their own lifelines. It's comically sad.

Thank goodness I live on the other side of Kentucky. But this really sucks for those that are deep into poverty, but hey, he was the best candidate for the job according to the workers.

Yep.

I had a conversation with someone the other day regarding this. Racism is the secret ingredient.

It doesn't matter how outlandish something is, how the facts are contrary to it, how much it doesn't make sense. All you have to do is add a pinch of racism to that dish, and almost half the country will come and take three helpings without question.

You get what you vote for, they voted a man knowingly he would fuck over a lot of people, they didn't care as long as they got promised to have crumbles handed their way, myopic selfish morons who don't get sympathy from me now that they got screwed over. "They can look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll look down and whisper "No."."

Don't worry, at least they won't starve to death.

They'll be able to eat all the bullshit that spews out of the GOP.

Do it and coal country will be up in arms. I wonder if he will turn back.
He doesn't give a shit, and the dumbasses that voted for him couldn't see how mind-boggingly incompetent hebisband how stupidly unrealistic his promises were.

He will make another bunch of unrealistic promises, blame the lack of success on Obama, dumbasses will eat it up and vote for him again in 2020.

Is this the first president to openly not give a damn about anyone that isn't rich or in his circle?

Haha....ah....

No he's the first one to come out and say "fuck you" to those people, but no man. Go look up how America was doing in the Reagan years.

It is highly unlikely. If coal mining is sharing similarities with other fossil fuel industries more technologically sophisticated now and many of the jobs requiring whole crews can now be done by one guy and a machine.

I no longer have sympathy for people who voted for a billionaire, silver spoon grifter with no political experience and are going to end up getting fucked by him. Same as I stoped caring about people who vote against their own self interest by casting a ballot for the GOP.

If you want to be that alarmingly misinformed and throw all critical thinking out the window, you deserve what you're gonna get.

Yup. I have absolutely zero sympathy for them dragging the entire country -- and possibly the world -- down into the mud.
