Backstory:

The popular martial arts manga, starting with the series Grappler Baki and followed by New Grappler Baki, Baki - Son of Ogre and Baki Dou (currently running), has been in print long enough for George Bush and Barack Obama to both make appearances in it.

The most powerful guy in the world, essentially, is a martial artist named Yujiro Hanma. He aligns himself with the United States, and every president swears allegiance to keep up a treaty of friendship with him. Since his existence hasn't really been public knowledge, every president is 'briefed' on him and then meets him in person. They usually piss themselves in fear over him.

And now that Trump's become the president-elect, Itagaki has drawn a chapter in which Trump is briefed on Yujiro's existence by Obama (clearly parallel to that news article we all saw about Trump being overwhelmed by the scope of the office) and meets Yujiro in person.

Essentially, the chapter starts with Trump asking why they can't just arrest this guy and Obama has to exasperatedly explain just how powerful the guy is since he's already had his trial by fire dealing with him on his first meeting.

That panel there on the bottom right is Yujiro saying to Trump that he has three minutes of his time to make the pledge. The bible seen there is to swear on when making said pledge. Interestingly, Yujiro is actually the kind of person who upholds rights for the weak and downtrodden even though he's a huge asshole and a bully towards fellow martial artists, and praised Obama for his support of minorities and the poor back during his presidency, so I get the feeling he'll be antagonistic towards Trump on a higher level. Just the intimidation he was showing towards Trump seems to show that, compared to how Obama seemed a hell of a lot more chill during his swearing of the oath.

Is this like a Japanese Ed Brubaker or Chuck Austen? I have no idea if this is trying to be good.

It's just a badass martial arts fighting manga, that's all. I love it to death, and it's clear the science is basically bullshit, but it doesn't matter. It's just that a lot of stuff relating to current politics happens in it, like Baki himself intentionally putting himself in prison by kidnapping George Bush since he wanted to meet with one of the inmates. Also, people capable of making a skyscraper shake by punching it, and being able to flip cars and jump up a story or two with just their legs. The "pinnacle of martial arts" and height of human achievement being far beyond what we think it is, basically.

Also, have a reaction Trump upon being told by Obama about this guy:

It started pretty grounded too.

Note to self. Get into the Manga writing business.

I don't know what's going on, but I like that the speech bubbles are coming out of Trump's hair in the first couple of panels. Hair mouse lives.

Basically he's asking "Ogre...is that a code name? Friendship treaty? Who is this guy?"

Yujiro Hanma is also known as the "Ogre."

Imagine someone capable of beating up a gigantic elephant and breaking all its bones with his bare fists, and swimming for two hours straight at 22 miles an hour without a break.

He's the main antagonist of the story, but yeah, this guy is so dangerous that even shooting him with a gun won't really do shit.

Why is Obama in a wheelchair?

That ain't even the worst of it. Yujiro can apparently stop earthquakes by punching the ground.

I have been waiting on more chapters to be released to get back into it as I was up the point where Musashi beat Baki

Yujiro is so OP that the main character's final fight with him ended up with the main character losing and the author giving some bullshit reason as to why technically he 'won'

Hahahahahaha. The author is awesome.

Oh man, last time I left Baki when
he fought the Yakuza dude in the casino and they were tearing the place up. Man that boxer he destroyed was such a cool dude too.
Which series am I supposed to read to go back to where I left off?

I like Grappler Baki, but I do hate quite a few of the decisions the creator made. Probably the worst was with Baki's brother. You would think that being a son of Yujiro would mean he'd be an ultra badass martial artist. But no, his secret is nothing but
pills. Lots and lots of pills!

That never sat right with me.

They're just sitting by a fire in the White House.

Ah okay.

I'm pretty sure Baki vs Hanayama was in the first series, "Grappler Baki" chapter 113-122. If you finish Grappler Baki and then go to New Grappler Baki, and then Baki - Son of Ogre, and then Baki Dou, you'll be caught up.

I stopped after
Baki's fight with his father
thinking that was the end, I didn't even know about Baki Dou. This is awesome, like finding you have another cookie in the jar after you ate them all.
