Considering how people and the environment have already lost protections, the animals were obviously next.

What the hell. Who gets enjoyment out of hunting bears that are hibernating? That is not a hunting for sport that is straight up wrong.

This is some petty shit right here. I don't care if he promised to overturn ever bill made into law during Obama's terms, this is a stupid law to overturn. First, most hunters hunt for sport and wouldn't hunt a bear that's sleeping. Secondly, the ones that do aren't hunters, they're poachers, which is illegal. Is there no level of pettiness this man want reach?

The article does point out that most of this is illegal in Alaska anyway, but they didn't like that the Fed was also telling them what to do.

He's such a petty cunt. I bet it drives him crazy that he wasn't able to overturn Obama's biggest legacy, the ACA.

But what if they wake up a bear without being able to kill it? We know where it leads to:

Fuck Trump and co. Leave those bears alone.

I'm trying to imagine the kind of mindset needed to be ok killing a bear in their sleep. It's fucking sociopathic.

What does this accomplish? What is the fucking point in doing this?

Some guy in NC literally came up with a lost of every Obama regulation and legislation that he wanted to repeal. Trump is going down that list.

It's essentially a way for thr GOP to completely wipe the Obama presidency off of the legislative books.

I'm interested. What's the rationale behind this? In case one finds a sleeping bear nearby and considers it a future threat? Or is this simply an ideological choice made in favor of smaller federal oversight?

I actually clicked the link and read the article.

This passage wasn't about hibernating bears or animal cruelty at all. It was about the state of Alaska wanting to regulate themselves, rather than have the federal government put regulations on them. This was Alaskans basically saying, "screw you, we'll regulate ourselves."

The deeper issue all along was state vs. federal control of wildlife management. Despite support from scientific, environmental, and animal welfare advocacy groups, the federal restrictions were considered intrusive and unwarranted by many Alaskans. The state filed a lawsuit in January 2017 contending that the rules amounted to federal overreach, harming the ecosystem and citizens of Alaska. With the support of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and Safari Club International, Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) introduced H.J. Res. 69 in February 2017 to redress what he termed a “wrongful seizure of authority”:

Most of the practices mentioned are also already banned under Alaska law.

Yes, on the surface this just sounds like more Trump fuckery, but I'm sure many of us know someone who responds to things with "fuck you, don't tell me what to do" and this is one of those cases.

Any respectable hunter should be appalled by this -- no way to keep the populations healthy or get a satisfying kill.

Uh what's bad about this? Better to get them while they sleep before they eat us. We've already had some come into schools and eat our children. We need to be preventive.

Literally WTF. Anyone who kills a hibernating bear is a fucking monster.

I just want equal opportunity. Legalize the hunting of hunters and I'll be so fucking happy. It's not like humans are endangered, so hunters can't complain without being massive hypocrites.

Most but not all.

The Feds banned a couple of hunting practices including:

  • baiting brown bears to draw them to hunters and shooting them;
  • shooting bears ensnared in traps;
  • shooting bears and wolves in their dens with their cubs or pups;
  • gunning bears and wolves from airplanes
Now Alaska may not be slaughtering cubs, but they will probably be bringing back aerial shooting.
