Trump Signs Bill Lifting Ban on Hunting Hibernating Bears in Alaska

Except in this case the bear is sleeping.

Though to be fair, I read that he lifted the federal ban and left it up to the state - i.e. Alaska - to make and enforce the laws they deem is required for their state. I don't have a problem with that, to be honest.

I generally dislike this administration and most of what it has done but this is a non issue. SoA just wants to manage itself and they generally have a much better track record on handling game management compared to the Feds anyway.

It always surprises me how all of these regulations were only just created under the Obama admin. Crazy that many of these things were ok prior.

Disgusting

Do they not have anyone remotely adept at PR?

Yeah, let's let people kill sleeping bears. People will love that!

Out of all the things Trump does, him and his son's cruelty towards animals is probably the thing I despise the most about him. Killing an animal is no different than killing a human baby in my eyes.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
Get a job, lazy hibernating bears

they even have refrigerators and $600 iPhones.

You are a piece of flaming inhumane garbage if you derive pleasure of thrill in hunting a sleeping target.

Does anyone here that hunts agree with this move? If so why? Genuinely curious. I'm not a hunter myself but I thought I understood that the 'fun' in it is testing your skill against alert and moving targets.

I actually clicked the link and read the article.

This passage wasn't about hibernating bears or animal cruelty at all. It was about the state of Alaska wanting to regulate themselves, rather than have the federal government put regulations on them. This was Alaskans basically saying, "screw you, we'll regulate ourselves."

Most of the practices mentioned are also already banned under Alaska law.

Yes, on the surface this just sounds like more Trump fuckery, but I'm sure many of us know someone who responds to things with "fuck you, don't tell me what to do" and this is one of those cases.

And the article specifically mentions about the Feds enforcing rules in and bordering their jurisdictions (federally protected lands) The Feds don't want Alaskans having authority over their operations.

Its called the tiniest penis tactic. Where you're such a little bitch that they need to be sleeping for you to be brave.

This is probably for his shit son to feel like a big game hunter like when he went to an African reserve to shoot docile animals.

I love Alaska and want to move there some day, but am against killing bears unless you are being attacked. Trump strikes again.

What purpose does that have?!?

for Trump? The NRA basically wants EVERYTHING relating to gun regulation, even activities surrounding guns, to all go away, + the deregulation fetish.

For hunting, none. A core part of hunting is supposed to be conservation, so that's why actual hunting has:

- tag requirements to prevent overhunting from happening, and the money goes towards the caretaking of the wild lands

- no baiting, because that's lame but also messes up the feeding patterns of animals

- specific seasons, to allow animals an open time to mature and brood. Also why there's stuff like antler point requirements depending on time/conditions for deer because you want to cull older deer out, not bottleneck them by taking out all the young ones

and also the concept that you will not come home with ANYTHING most of the time.

"Was that part of the bad news?"

"Yeah... Our president has been teleported out of office."

"And the good news!?!"

"He's been replaced by a new horrible one!"

What would a hunter even get out of that? It's an animal tucked away in hibernation.

Ask the many American "hunters" that travel to Africa every year to shoot tamed/docile animals living in reserves. As long as they have the head for a trophy they can make up any brave hunting "story" they want.

That is just nuts. I actually have no problem with hunters who maybe drop a moose or a couple of deer a year in order to stock their freezer and cut down on their grocery bill. But sport hunting to just blow animals away for fun is something I will never get.

I don't mind hunting for food but killing animals just for sport, thats always been pretty disturbing to me.

If you want to fire off your gun, go to a shooting range or something.

1. Hunting sleeping bears puts the hunter less at risk. Less risk, less chance of extra costs.
2. Year round supply of bear pelts for various industries, ensures steady supply.

I say this as someone who doesn't wear animal products or eat meat. I don't know shit about hunting or the bear pelt trade but it doesn't take a lot of thought to understand why Trump might be against hunting regulation.
