TRUTHFACT: MS having eSRAM yield problems on Xbox One

Dude was bluffing from the outset to make himself look legit. As of now we still have no idea either way on the downclock.

If (IF) senjetsu's source is who he says it was, then he was legit. Its a big if, mind you, as only mods who he spoke to would know. It's not a low-level employee. It's someone who is very involved with game tech at a large first party studio, if he was telling the truth about it. This is probably why people confused him for a "PR shill" if he was friends or in contact with such an individual.

He also claimed to hear about esram-related yields, just as myself, thu and others (like buttocks, who has a near flawless track record) but not of any down clocking. We may honestly never find out if that's what happened outside of leaks after launch, as MS will be borrowing from the book of Nintendo in regards to specs at e3.

But eventually the truth will come out whether he was right or not. Probably not soon though. I'm sure he was banned for swearing at another member. Not sure if it was perm or not, but maybe the mods could clear that up as well as maybe comment on whether his source was validated.

You've got a point. Alright, I'll lighten up on the guy.

Hate to keep quoting back and forth but here's bkilian again:

Heh, amusing. I'm not trying to flush anyone out, I don't give a damn anymore, I haven't worked for MS for over six months. I'm just pointing out that everything they have said is game developer related, mostly EA. Even the so-called xenon leak was from a developer conference. That gives me zero confidence this person would know anything about chip yields. Anyone can claim yield problems, heck, Charlie from semi accurate was claiming yield problems, except he claimed it was an IBM fab (which it never was), and when he claimed it, they were still simulating the chip and had not fabbed it at all.

he mentioned dead rising 3 being made, now an exclusive title. We still don't know if it's coming or not, but kotaku talked about a zombie game in the x1 lineup a while ago, so...
i take it you mean the lack of horror in dead space 3? he mentioned dead space 3 would turn into a shootbang fest with buddies, which, again, was right.
he said remember me was a ps3 exclusive, which it was for a while, until sony dropped it.

If Dead Rising 3 becomes an exclusive, I will just... I will be sad. With my face.

He said Dead Space 3 had a lack of emphasis on horror and would become a shootbang--it didn't, but he was right about the co-op.

I didn't know Remember Me was a PS3 exclusive. I remember back when it was first being demoed, and they hadn't even found a publisher... maybe things happened in the interim that I wasn't aware of.

The problem is bkillian's theory only works if the downclocking part isn't true. Yields are nobody's business but Microsoft's, until they have to inform developers all over the place they are downgrading the target specs. By bkillian's reasoning CBOAT knowing could be a confirmation of both the yield problems, AND the clock speed of the GPU being reduced.

Deep down he will always have love for Xbone.

I don't know what's up with him, but he doesn't know how business works if he thinks that the big publishers would accept a "someone from outside it would not be hearing anything about it" situation concerning an issue that could impact the number of salable units of a major new platform that they have a major cash investment of their own in.

Knowing in advance that a console would have a significantly lower unit number than originally estimated at roll-out could save a publisher tens of millions of dollars just in promotional money alone.

As I pointed out in my previous post, IMO, the main problem with bkillian's theory is that it requires basically one's belief that publishers don't care about money. IMO, anyone who believes that is either a fool, or has an agenda that goes beyond an obligation/desire to find the truth.

I can't fathom a world where publishers would be blissfuly ignorant of how things are going on the manufacturing end when they have so much planned and invested in that product.

Senjutsu finally banned. So was he a viral?
Maybe he got banned because the verification of his source, a mod asked for, failed.
->
I've been contacted already on the issue by a mod and have given the reason for my comment.

Maybe it was a ban based be on his cumulative defensive behavior.

I hope I'll find out if bishop decides to release the PR agency email address user list because I actually feel sorry for calling him out. If he was a viral, then being on gaf was just business. If he wasn't, I think it's pretty sad/stupid to defend a company to the grave by pathological lying about having a source. I'm sensitive about stuff like that.

Bish is going to make a thread to weed out these astroturfers. Going to be great.

There was mention of a 2-day amnesty. Own up in two days, or be revealed in public.

The traditional way would be to punish the innocent. For every MS or Sony paid shill, the mods give a 48 hour ban to anybody who say something positive about either console - and bans the shill. So the net effect is worse than just being caught.

I kind of hope CBoat goes into hiding and doesn't reveal another TruthFact. I have a feeling someone might be on to him and gave him this latest information so that when he leaks it they will know who he is.

No one is on to him becuz he tepys leki a fuerkng reatad aen no oedn kneows weho eh is.

Really. He's obfuscated the shit out of his posts. Not sure if machine obfuscation or human, even. There's no pattern. Whoever he is, he's covered his tracks. mturk / Amazon has a "writer confirmation" ongoing solution. CBOAT would never be discovered. I suspect he writes what he wants and runs it through some kind of random obfuscation software.

This is NeoGAF, 99.9% of users who write like that get banned on discovery. He's used his reputation to allow him to obfuscate the fuck about what he posts, and his track record is impeccable. The mods allow it because it's fuckin' awesome.

CBOAT has nothing to fear. Release the details CBOAT. It'll be epic.

I have a question for insiders, does any of you have an estimation of the die size of the APU? I mean, it can't be that big? IMO 350mm² would be the max tolerable.

I think estimates were around 420mm². based on the image we saw of the internals.

Best of luck CBoaT.

This is what Brad Shoemaker from Giant Bomb had to say about a majority of GAF after this topic came up.

"GAF has such a hard-on to see the Xbox One fail, I'd reserve judgement. Place is full of frothing Sony fans."

What a dumb statement. People don't want the Xbox One to fail, but the philosophy/strategy behind it, and they want Sony's philosophy/strategy to win. But I guess this fits better in the other thread.

420mm²???????
Holy shit, if true no wonder they have yield issues!!
Their APU diz size is bigger than the 7970 GPU's one!

The APU is at least 400m^2. Its probably somewhere between 400-420mm^2.

Yes its huge, and yes a good large chunk of that is the eSRAM.

I remember Brad talking up how graphics don't really matter and how the two systems are the same. He was talking about how the eSRAM makes it so the systems are almost even in terms of performance.

He later changed his mind when others like Digital Foundry spelled out that he was wrong.

I'm pretty sure CBOAT is fair about the rumors he reports. I don't know if the same could be said of Brad's analysis.

Well Brad's right. What he doesn't mention is that it's not irrational. And we're mostly Sony fans because the PS4 is exciting, where the XBO is not. =\

*sigh*
It is the whole chip containing APU, Move Units, ESRAM and memory controller...

DMA units really wouldn't be that big. The memory controller wouldn't either.

But the eSRAM? its probably at least 1/4th the entire thing. Probably more.

With this statement he basically says: "Ok I'm a Xbone Fanboy".
Did you even listen to anything we said on the forums, on twitter Brad? Seriosuly, did you?

*sigh*

Yes i know that, but still doesnt change it's going to be horrific to manufacture in the first months. I also doubt the XB1 is going to be cheap at retail.

Also, the people that came up with the information about the eSRAM having yield issues are pretty reputable sources that do not have a system bias it would seem. Brad seems to be invested in sugarcoating and rationalizing decisions made by Microsoft.
