Twitch: Changes To Audio In VODS

Someone posted on my twitter feed that downloading the video via twitchtools will give you it with audio intact. No idea if that's true, but worth a shot for anyone who wants to archive something.

I'm not even mad at Google. Well, not exclusively.
I'm mad at those companies who own the rights for this music and think that that endorsing/forcing censoring of people who use their copyrighted songs as a background in their stream will surely do great for their business.

Dinosaurs shaking their fists at the asteroid.

If anyone thinks this system will remain limited to VODs, well, you're dreaming.

VODs are honestly just the start. They're probably using VODs to test the system.

Expect this to apply to livestreams within the next year.

I'm assuming that's way more intensive on their end and that's why it isn't done already.

this is only a few weeks after buying them, picture them in 6 months time! All comments on live streams must use google plus.

Perhaps they underestimated people having a viable alternative or otherwise figured that users wouldn't want to change up their streaming/viewing habits.

Then all I can say to them is they're really ignorant about the history of the internet. Sad times for people having to rebuild their user base now. :-/

There is some sort of humor to this fiasco.

I never realized so many people cared about the archived streamed.

There's a website called dotaflame that is a HUGE database of dota streamers. You can filter by the streamers or the heroes they play. It's not only a repository for old games but act as evolving guides.

That shit is fucked now.

I dont mind though, there's always porn.

Just so you guys who don't seem to grasp how bad this is understand:
On YouTube, content can be across anything, it's not limited to video games. Twitch only uses video games for their content.
In-game audio, as much as music that's not from games, is getting thrown on the chopping block here. This robot also makes absolutely no differentiation between streamers who actually bought the license to play music on their streams, either.

Twitch is completely going against their content creators with this decision. Every single one of them.
No matter if it's eSports, Let's Plays, Speedruns or anything else. Every content creator suffers from this. This even applies to content that is normally not content-ID'd by the creators of the respective games.

I don't really feel that this is the main issue at least currently. The main issue is Twitch muting legitimate in-game music on VODs. I mean the companies own the content, people shouldn't be playing non licensed music on stream if they're making money from it. I really don't see why that part is somehow wrong.

Apparently the menu screen for The Last of Us uses licensed music because my past broadcasts are muted at the beginning. This sucks, I hadn't had a chance to export them to YouTube yet. :(

You mean muting gaming videos doesn't make you want to go out and buy music all of a sudden?

They mute in-game music..from the game no 3rd party music what so ever.

Yea, I can't imagine the hassle and headache for people who are deeply invested into Twitch. Still, as you alluded people on the web always find a better way. Maybe it'll be rocky for awhile but eventually things will settle down. :)

"Google+" is just a fancy name for a generic google account, so it's a complete non-issue.
People who whine about being "forced" to use one are laughable, especially because there's nothing wrong with it.

I'm far more concerned about other issues... Like this silly enforcement of copyright protection, for instance.

This is the kinda move you make when you think people have no where else to go. Bold move, considering the nature of the internet.

But really.. how long till they fold to the same copyright BS?

Its not BS its the law. And the answer is "not long" so keep your stuff boxed and packed tight, because if you think hitbox or anyone else can tell the law to go fuck itself so you can stream music you don't have the license to stream, you are horribly mistaken.

At least, we are protecting the rights of recording executives who swindle artists out of their publishing. Those old guys are being victimized by 12-year old Twitch streamers. Welcome your new Google corporate overlords.

I never realized so many people cared about the archived streamed.
Being able to buffer the archives is a godsend, I can rarely get Source-quality streams running smoothly, but that's never a problem with the archives, along with the obvious (and for me invaluable) tools of fast-forwarding and rewinding on the spot.

I'd say watching archived vs live is has been a 90/10 split for me.

Audible Magic lol. Whoever came up with that buzz word probably patting themselves on the back.

RIP in peace Twitch.

Oh for fucks sake.

I guess I should have seen this coming after the Google acquisition, but sometimes you forget how stupid google and Youtube can be when it comes to this shit.
