Is Lord Zedd an American creation?

Yep, he is: http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/Lord_Zedd

Lord Zedd is a major villain from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series and recurring through Power Rangers Zeo and Power Rangers in Space. He was played by Edwin Neal, with Robert Axelrod supplying the voice. Steven Blum voiced him in the video game Power Rangers: Super Legends and Tony Oliver voiced him in the Power Rangers Super Megaforce video game.

The character was the first American-made villain for the Power Rangers series of shows with no origin in the Japanese Sentai shows.

So not worth it
I never like the fact they use the Dairanger zords but they never used the suits. Or else Saban could have saved money and used the Dairanger footage instead.

I think they just had too much merchandising based on the old designs going on to make the switch at that point. I mean, they had anything from coloring books to lunchboxes with these suits on them. It would have instantly made all of that obsolete.

Woh I had no idea the suits in original had changed. But you know what, imo those constant changes ruined the series for me. Just find a good design and stick to it. Guess in US they didn't want to change since the already had established the merchandise and branding.

Interesting fact: the only Dairanger costume that was adapted for Season 2 of MMPR is Kiba Ranger which became the costume for the White Ranger, Dairanger costumes weren't used until Super Megaforce: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gosei_Sentai_Dairanger

Gosei Sentai Dairanger (五星戦隊ダイレンジャー Gosei Sentai Dairenjā?)[Note 1][Note 2] is a Japanese tokusatsu television series. It was the seventeenth production in the long-running Super Sentai franchise of television tokusatsu dramas produced by Toei Company, following Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger. It was originally broadcast from February 19, 1993 to February 11, 1994. Toei gave this series the name Star Rangers for international distribution.[1]

Elements from Dairanger were adapted into the second season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, specifically the action sequences between the giant robots (which became the Power Rangers' Thunderzords) and some of the monsters. None of the Dairanger costumes were used in Power Rangers, except Kiba Ranger's, which was adapted into the White Ranger's costume for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: the suits from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger were instead used for the other Rangers in that show (The end credits listed the show as titled Dai Rangers). The core Dairanger costumes in the footage were not used in Power Rangers until Power Rangers Super Megaforce.

In July 2015, Shout! Factory announced that they would release "Gosei Sentai Dairanger: The Complete Series" on DVD in North America.[2] On November 10, 2015, Dairanger was released on DVD in North America. This is the Second Super Sentai Series to be released in North America. In addition on May 23, 2016, Shout! streamed the series on their website.[3]

So most of this footage is actually all-american huh? That's interesting.

You can tell because the suits look a lot worse and they suddenly stopped using fight choreography with weapons and switched to doing dances and flips so that they don't upset parents.

That's not how the Sentai worked, all the shows were standalone so it wouldn't make sense to keep the same suits.

The easiest way to tell the NA suits? More wrinkles and Tommy's shield is SO discount

They're also more matte. This tell is consistent to this day.

Well, the very first Sentai, Goranger, also lasted longer than every subsequent show, until they started changing it to keep the show fresh. As you can see, it proved to be quite effective in the long run.
