Aiii

So not worth it
Tommy's gone through this whole "well this is the last time-" shit like every other episode now.

I actually think one of the things that made Power Rangers better than most of the shows they had during our childhood is how they had actual story arcs that lasted entire seasons.

Sure they had formulaic monster-of-the-week stuff, but they also had stuff like the Green Ranger and actual character progression mixed in there, that was pretty rare.

They wrote provisional scripts for potential episodes and shot action scenes based on that. It was consequently mauled and repurposed. It's pretty interesting because this very year, Korea and Japan are making a sequel for one of Sentai shows, Kyoryuger (adapted in the US as Dino Charge). Korea normally just shows Sentai dubbed, but Kyoryuger was so popular they're making a short sequel series with new, Korean cast and modified costumes. Directed by Koichi Sakamoto, who has been action director on Power Rangers for years.

Huh, wow. Didn't know that Toei had (has?) a more in-depth partnership for Power Rangers than just licensing certain things from Super Sentai to Saban for Power Rangers.

It's interesting going back and seeing it because as a kid I never noticed. The show gets clowned on for some things but they've actually done a great job with this. Especially mixing the stock footage and the new footage. I'm impressed.

The positive thing about of Season 2 and Season 3 is more story focused writing and arcs

Yeah, Power Rangers is just the worldwide branding for Super Sentai. Which is why the debate over whether the new Power Rangers movie should have even used MMPR or not is even a thing.

Didn't know this was happening. But I want Dino Charge season 3 so bring it on

Now if only they used the Dekaranger sequel for the SPD sequel. Come on even Matt Austin wrote a sequel script too.

I'm glad it's really just MMPR because the new movie really has nothing to do with Sentai other than mild Zyuranger design inspirations.

And now very recently, Super Sentai is being released here in America with English subs. I'm thinking of buying the Super Sentai series that has been released in the U.S. and see how they are different from Power Rangers.

The pacing and intensity of that sequence is fantastic, especially compared to the Jason vs Tommy one.

On the other hand, getting the public accustomed to yearly costume changes during the fad years could have made the fad kept going farther instead of dissipating when they finally adopted the practice in the late 90's.

True. In the long term it could have been better. It's a case though of them being able to take the hit at the time with a work around existing.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
I'm amazed at how sloppy the giant fights are around this point. You can even see the Dino Megazord sword at points.

It eventually does get better when they start using Dairanger monsters, but then they do the same thing with the ground fights where the Rangers fight the Putties while the monster just stands around. At least for the monsters they couldn't get the suits for. Sometimes they got them.

Imagine a tv show making the only black character the black ranger and having an ape creature turn into him

I never noticed Kimberly's two new friends coming out to play this episode...

Costume directors need thicker material. It's a kid's show!

Small detail, I like that the Rangers always look around before they use their communicator and before they teleport. That's smart.

I like how they had the premise of comparing fighting styles to figure out which one was the fake, but instead the yellow ranger just immediately lunges at the Red Ranger.
