Why would you teach Body Slam to a Togekiss when its' more of a special attacker?

It's something of a superfluous trade secret that never really left the simulators and made its way into the real-life metagame. Considering you could legally obtain it, Togekiss' ability Serene Grace upped its chance for paralysis to a whopping 60%, meaning it was a STAB, damage-dealing move that could paralyze every type, except for Ghosts for obvious reasons. Togekiss' surprisingly decent physical movepool allowed it to just barely work as a physical attacker with moves like Extremespeed, Brick Break, Sky Attack, etc. Considering Togekiss doesn't need more than two attacking moves in most cases anyway, Body Slam along with its remaining, ridiculous arsenal of status-affliction moves further boosted by Serene Grace gave it a small niche in the competitive metagame, at least for Gen IV. Gen V's hyper-offensive, high-speed metagame saw Togekiss fall out of use due to not having great physical defense, but the advent of Gen VI gave Togekiss the Fairy typing, some decent new STAB coverage and the return of a slower, almost RSE-styled metagame allowed Togekiss to start dominating again. Body Slam largely falls out of favor in Gen VI, though, due to losing STAB coverage and obviously having larger special priorities - for example Aura Sphere, Dazzling Gleam, Heat Wave (in sims) or Flamethrower, etc.

Seriously, they've been arguing for pretty much 4 and a half days on what to do with the overleveled starter. It's time to pick something and be done.

At the pace this run is going, I wonder if we'll be able to beat the game faster than we beat Red. Not sure how long the Kanto gym battles will take with our starter already nearing level 50.

IIRC the first Kanto gym had Pokemon at levels in the 40s. I replayed Gold a few years back and couldn't believe how quickly I breezed through Kanto. It was basically 8 strong trainers and that's about it.

Democracy every hour speeds things up considerably. That's not necessarily a good thing though. Fortunately, the upcoming Rocket Underground door puzzle and Ice Path will probably keep us stuck in one place for quite a while.

I find it funny that every time they really need to overcome the lag in democracy (like in Morty's Gym, navigating to Cut just now), they do, but when it's not that important they fail every time.

Happiness and level up during the day for Espeon or during the night for Umbreon.
