wait, are you serious about the raiding? I can't tell. you're bashing twitter but play WoW?

which one is a bigger waste of time?

get the fuck outta here :lol

Since both are social activities, I don't see one as a bigger waste of time than the other.

When I say I play w/ RL friends, it's not the "we met once at BlizzCon" type of RL friend. It's the people I'll go out with tonight and do shots with, hang out on the beach with tomorrow, etc just like we do every weekend.

I'm just stone age. You guys are helping. I've got a decent mobile, but I don't use the web features on it. Such is the curse of the old man.

Warren Ellis is on twitter all the haters fail at being alive and using the internet.

Yep, I follow Ellis.

The director of Iron Man is on Twitter too. He updates with the set, often with small unimportant things, but I like reading that stuff. He's had Downey leave messages, posted set pictures from cell phones, etc.

I like how he made a point to tell us that he plays WoW with his REAL LIFE friends.

At least if you're using Twitter you can be out doing something worthwhile instead of parking your ass in front of a computer, wasting time and money playing a shitty MMORPG. NERRRRRRRD

I pointed that out only to show that it's a social experience.

Yes, I'm a nerd. So are my friends. So are you. See the address bar at the top of your screen? Uh-huh.

Damn you. You're taking the fun out of this.

I also like how Twitter can break down the barrier between bands/celebrities and the fans. Trent Reznor from NIN or Mark Hoppus from blink-182 will post something, fans will reply, and they'll reply to fans pretty often.

That isn't something that could really happen with MySpace, only the simplicity of Twitter. And obviously not everyone cares about stuff like that, but I think it's pretty neat having this communition open with bands you normally can't reach.

This is even funnier for me in light of new slang my buddy and I cooked up while drinking last night.

"getting creative" is shorthand for developing homosexual feelings

But wait...you guys were being creative while cooking up that new slang. I THOUGHT I KNEW YOU!! D:

Yeah, that's not new. Certain celebrities have been doing that on message boards for year.

Because going out to clubs is somehow more productive than raiding? At least I get epic loots.

I'm relatively old compared to most of GAF, i'm 30, but I don't think twitter is going away. it's a lightweight, low commitment, easy accessible form of public message broadcasting.

how is that awful?

of course some idiots are gonna spend all their time talking about their lunches and other inane shit. that's because most people are inane and talk about that stuff in real life, too.

finding people who are interesting to follow, who use the character limit as a challenge to make the best jokes, makes twitter great. finding real breaking info and comments about public news makes twitter great.

oh, and everyone on twitter should follow "fireland". funniest guy on it. one tweet a day but it's always a classic.

When the hell did I say anything about going to a club? For all I know someone could be out stopping bank robberies or pulling cats out of trees while they're tweeting.

Pfft...pulling cats out of trees doesn't put food on the table!

Does Superman tweet?

Hey guys, I do not like something. Let me spread my positive nature by telling you how much and why I won't be having anything to do with this thing I don't like. Hey guys, I do not like something.

Only celebrities have a legit reason to do it. I feel like its really presumptuous for a normal person to think anyone cares what they're doing at any exact moment.

Gorgeous out today. I'm gonna sit under a tree, take off my shoes, huff some Lemon Pledge and fight with the centaur who lives in my hair.

It's bad enough Mom told me Big Bird was gay and then filmed me crying about it and then put it on YouTube. But c'mon, only TEN views?

:lol :lol :lol

And the tweet that nails GAF:

I told this chick I was gonna rock her Casbah and she called Homeland Security!!! Just kidding I am terrified of women.

So following him.

I'm not a big fan of Twitter at all, I definitely don't use it to talk to people on it or see what a random celebrity/someone I don't know is doing. I barely have enough stuff to put one update a day. It's good you can find out some quick info from someone as it breaks (i.e. all the announcements usually found on Twitter now vs. anywhere else).

For me, the best part is I can just make any Twitter updates my Facebook status, so instead of having to install a Facebook app on my phone that will start alerting me to the 50 event invites I have pending, I just have a single app where I can just update my status and be done with it.

This whole way of thinking (frequently voiced in these threads on GAF) is very odd to me. The service would not have users if your belief was carried...by its users.

Twitter is bullshit, but consider this, I thought myspace was bullshit too and then we got facebook which was actually cool. So maybe there'll be a cool twitter soon.

Also, lol@corporations, goddamn the admen are SUPER into twitter.
lol

I wouldn't say I was a "hater" but I did look down upon twitter. Not gonna go into depth, because we all know complaints and dislikes. But last month I decided to give it a shot.. and I actually think it's pretty damn cool.

I don't post much (nowadays..). But I follow a lot of gaming blogs, tech blogs, movie based blogs, etc. and it's a really efficient, streamlined method of receiving news and updates. I say it's all in how you utilize it, I simply use it to get information without having to go out of the way.

Those my two lousy cents.

/end tweet

I actually think I prefer Twitter to Myspace and Facebook. MyFace seems to be more about narcissism where as Twitter is more about receiving and spreading information.

I wish that they would relax the 140 character limit, but it seems to have removed everything about social networking that I hate.

Also, for whatever it's worth I always preferred Myspace to Facebook. Myspace at least provided musicians a useful tool.

Frankly, I only use twitter to follow the people I actually want to hear from. On facebook, I'm friends with the people I'm acquaintances with. On Twitter, I have my best friends and my family. It's like having a conversation with them.

Also, I don't really use it as a Facebook-Status type thing. I don't really use it to tell people what I'm doing. I use it as a running commentary on things I randomly think about.

Ok, I have a question.

If the website is called Twitter, why is posting little bulletins or whatever it is people do on it called "tweeting?" Shouldn't it be "twitting?" Common sense dictates that the verb form should be "to twit," not "to tweet."

Birds tweet. It's called twittering. They do not twitt.
