Two new Iowa polls show Clinton with GIANT leads over Sanders

West Long Branch, NJ – In the first Monmouth University Poll of likely Iowa Democratic caucusgoers in the 2016 cycle, Hillary Clinton holds a commanding 41 point lead over Bernie Sanders. This is the first poll conducted after Clinton’s appearance before the Benghazi Committee and Joe Biden’s announcement that he would not mount a presidential campaign.

Coming through a particularly busy week in Democratic presidential politics, Hillary Clinton has opened a sizeable advantage over her nearest rival in Iowa: Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. With less than 100 days before the 2016 Iowa Caucuses, Clinton appears to be gaining some momentum and is solidifying her position in the battle for the Democratic Party’s nomination, according to a Loras College poll conducted October 19-22.

This is a huge shift. Most people would have called Iowa a tie or even a slight Sanders lead recently.

I think it's a Benghazi Bounce.

She should invite McCarthy and Gowdy to her inauguration as guests of honor.

Bernie should have been shouting to be at the committee, that's how awful it was for the GOP and good for Hillary.

She basiclly did 2-3 presidential debates in one sitting.

Going by the time it took here to reach the 40s last time she was in the 60s, it will take until February before she goes back down the earth again.

The "pragmatism" is taking hold a bit too early for my liking. Oh, well. Sure voters will turn out for Hillary... For some unknown reason.

Sanders never truly had a shot.. when Sanders buzz was out there it's only because Hillary hadn't even really started to campaign.

It was always going to be Hillary.

That's not surprising at all.. what is surprising is how the GOP field is so fucked at this point from Trump and Carson.. that an actually electable candidate is polling in single digits.

Seriously, McCarthy for stating the obvious, and Gowdy for reinforcing it.

I think Hillary needs to declare the $4.7 million the BENGHAZZZIII!!!! committee spent as a campaign contribution.

Republicans running the Benghazi hearing like an inept group of pre-schoolers playing war against their teacher is what she gained from this. It's a towering win for any candidate to be able to emerge out of a witch hunt stronger than ever.

It's three things. One, she destroy Bernie in the debate (all polling after showed her the far and away winner). Second Biden didn't get in and she picked up virtually of his supporters. Third, she destroyed the GOP during the hearings.

The primary is 100% over. It's done.

Bernie Sanders was my dream for a progressive North America. Guess I'll just settle for my new progressive Canada ;)

The new tea party repbulicans don't know she has been dealing with those type of environments for decades.

All the way back to the Clinton healthcare hearings. You can just picture her old political opponents cringing at horror at how inept the new tea party republicans were.

Bernie should run as an independent.

(you know, to give actual sensible humans an option other than a robot or a monster)

How did you guys even win the war for independence?

"Oh, no the british army is coming It's experienced, well equipped and huge in numbers. Better lay down and worship the king again."

Even a bunch of tea tossers can fight an empire.

Yes, this is clearly just as dire a circumstance to rally the troops around as a revolution.

Fortunately, Bernie cares more about this country than his supporters do, so when he loses he will ask you to vote for Hillary so we can keep this country at least on a left leaning path, especially with the supreme court about to need appointees. Unfortunately it sounds like some of you won't listen to him.

I mean, Hilary is still clearly a better option than Trump, which is like saying famine is better than the apocalypse.

Oh do you honestly not know the reason? It's because I prefer her over literally any Republican. Glad I could clear that up! :)

Alright... One down. Just a few more to go, I think.

So who are the French for Bernie? The French that bankrupted themselves fighting the British during the Revolutionary war and supplied most of our supplies, training and naval support.

Or has the ridiculous analogy already broken down.

Pretty much. The fact the Sanders supporters would rather the GOP candidate be president over Hillary says a lot about what they think about the cause they're fighting for.

He's refusing to take any large donations from the French.

Some of them even spout the 'everyone is the same' bullshit but add 'besides Bernie so I will vote republican if he loses.'

I sure can't believe that any of the people I know who support Bernie would rather have Trump in office than Clinton. Pretty goofball assumption there.

God dammit... This shit again...

eh, people are getting hung up on this but it's silly. Hillary 2008 supporters were saying the same shit, but they voted for Obama anyway.

Definitely not.

I'm a Bernie supporter but when Hillary likely wins it will be okay. Not my ideal, with just how surprisingly close my values tend to line up with Bernie, but so far better than any alternative it's not even funny.

40 points seems a bit steep, but I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if she held a very healthy double digit lead over Bernie at this point (20 points or more). Her levelheadedness at the Benghazi witch hunt made her appear very Presidential, and has probably led a number of tentative Hillary supporters to go all in. I certainly know that I fall into that group.

Chances are is that this is just a Benghazi Bounce (as HylianTom already said), but that would have to be a pretty big bounce for her to fall behind Bernie at some point in the future. She'll still be up by double digits even a month or two from now, and her already giant leads outside of Iowa aren't likely to change much either. Barring some kind of miracle on Bernie's side, it's pretty safe to say that Hillary will be the Democratic nominee.

We had a thread recently with multiple people saying this. and there are far too many who say this over in the Bernie Sanders Reddit.
