Ubisoft boss believes generative AI is as big a revolution for games as the shift to 3D, as tech is embraced company-wide

Guillemot (via Game File) spent a short but explosive minute near the start of a recent earnings call to speak on generative AI in particular, which appears to be taking a larger role in Ubisoft's works moving forward.

Guillemot stated: "We are making great strides in applying Gen AI to high-value use cases that bring tangible benefits to our players and teams...It's as big [of] a revolution for our industry as the shift to 3D. And we have everything to lead on this front."

Guillemot continued: "On the player experience side, we are continuing to make progress on groundbreaking player-facing generative AI applications, building on our neo NPC announcements in 2024. We have already advanced from prototyping to player reality, and we are looking forward to sharing more before the end of the year."

Finally, Guillemot stated Ubisoft's embrace of AI goes beyond dedicated AI projects, and that AI-use has already been integrated into every development team across all of Ubisoft's offices. He explained: "On the production side, we now have teams in all our studios and offices embracing this new technology and constantly exploring new use cases in programming, art and overall game quality."

Uh huh. Go back and look at their comments about blockchain BS a few years ago. Or their ideas around subscription gaming services taking over and replacing ownership. Go back and look at what they were saying about 3D TVs and games back during the PS3 days. They always say every new thing is a revolution, the future, blah blah blah.

This is the CEO saying what he thinks the investors want to hear.

Show me the interviews with the front line workers actually building the games. What do they think about gen AI?

EXcept generative AI might let 1 developer in the basement do all kinds of art quickly that previously only a big studio could afford.

Is that good news for big publishers?

It's a bubble for sure. A bunch of boomers got a bad case of FOMO and went all in on AI without even really understanding it. We're already starting to see companies pull back.

Generative AI is a tech bro fad. Nobody actually likes it. People like making it because it's mindless and lets you masquerade as a creative person but nobody likes looking at other people's garbage prompts.

Coca Cola did an AI Christmas ad and it turns out they still had to use the same amount of staff as previous years because it looked like shit and an entire team of people had to comb through the slop to make it look semi presentable. So basically the entire thing was a giant waste of time and only cost them $$$ in the long run. And it still looked like shit.

Now yell at AI for telling you to, "learn to mine". Can you imagine, paying hundreds of thousands to learn your job, then willingly train AI to supplant you, then working in the mines to power that same AI.

I want a movie made.

Looks like I don't need to buy new hardware soon and continue with PS5 pro, after all, I don't need PS6 or last PC hardware for playing indies in next years :messenger_downcast_sweat:.

First Covid, after woke, now AI, don't think industry will recover from those
