Ubisoft/Fox: Massive (The Division) is making an Avatar game (Snowdrop, PC/consoles)

If this was being produced by Guerilla Games then I would be legit excited but Ubisoft? I'm honestly not holding my breath for a quality game here.

I would LOVE an awesome Avatar game though. The world has potential.

Going to admit that I still unironically enjoy Avatar and seen it twice in the last 6 months.
I've no idea what sort of game they've got planned, but I'd certainly be up for some more tall blue cat people.

"Fun" Fact: Got a platinum in that crap movie tie-in Avatar game.

You know, I didn't meant to sound like a crazed fan when I started typing this.

It seems like it'll be perfect for their usual empty open-world games with repetitive content, collectables and things to climb. I can't see this being anything other than a Third-person game really, and that's the sort of thing most third-person Ubisoft games tend to go for.

Hopefully the world/setting itself is expanded on, though. From what i remember of the movie there didn't seem to be that much to it.

The previous Avatar game was pretty dull even though they'd clearly put quite a lot of effort in. Don't really have any expectations for this, but curious Massive are going to be working on this as opposed to a Division sequel. I guess a small team will stay on that game to continue patches/updates while the majority shifts to Avatar 2: Electric Boogaloo.

oh wow awesome. division was a great game but was limited by its real world setting - only a few enemy types and standard weapons most military shooters all have.

graphics on division were also spectaular especially given that new york isnt a very interesting location for videogames (given how often its a setting in games - and how limited in variation it is)

The eye candy coming from this one should be amazing.

Really excited to see more! I don't expect this until 2020-2021 though.

Between this, EA's going full speed on Star Wars and Sqeeniex killing off Deus Ex in favor of doing games in Marvel's CU I'm feeling like gaming industry suddenly took a wrong turn somewhere...

Massive are one of the top development studios in the world. The tech they have made over the last 15 years is legit. World in Conflict is legendary.

But Avatar is one of those that mean a lot to me. I was very entertained when I saw the film (first 3D experience) but.. I just don't see why we need to revisit this universe.

I do enjoy humans colonizing new worlds. The humans exploring and the technology reminds me of the human sci-fi tech of Halo, Aliens, Titanfall and those types of games. And I like that. I like the future-Americanized style military fantasy inserted.

Its actually the blue people of Avatar I was never really warming too. It was so bizarre the way they were fucking plants with tentacles and the way they were so big, and the CGI looked off somehow.

It's plausibly not even for this generation of consoles, yes.

Yeah I guess not. It's odd to think we're 4 years into this gen, it still feels so new to me. I feel like I'll be satisfied with the current level of visuals and ecosystems for another decade, but that's easy to say now...

I get the Deus Ex part but whats so bad about this and star wars?

I dunno, no more Dead Space or anything from EA really besides Battlefield each odd year? It feels like AAA gaming industry (beyond console platform owners of cource) just decided that it won't produce any new IPs now.

Don't forget Warner Bros with DC and LOTR.

Yeah, this as well. No more FEAR and NOLF from Monolith, guys, here's something something Mordor something.

Um, okay. I hated the movie but maybe the universe will be more interesting when the new one comes out and then I'll want a game about it.

I guess that's true for the most part. They found some cows and want milk badly but at the same time could not profitable games fund new IP in the long run?

But Dead Space, Fear, and NOLF are not new IPs and each have sequels of their own. Shadow of Mordor doesn't even have that yet and aside from Battlefront, EA hasn't been churning out endless SW titles, which I kind of wish they would at this point.

Virtually any game, regardless of IP, can be good or bad. New IPs don't mean the games are automatically good.

Are we entering into a golden era of video game adaptations? Marvel etc. all seems to take the industry a lot more seriously these days and want a piece of the pie but also don't want to tarnish their brands by making activision style cash in games.

For those questioning this, imagine a full open world game in the vain of Horizon, but exploring the world of Pandora.

If they do this right it could be a great open world PRG... though we have no idea the genre or anything other than who is making it and what engine they're using.

*Looks at the numbers for the highest grossing movies of all time, its at nr 2*

The potential market for it is huge, video-games are bigger than ever also if anything movie-licensed games doesn't have to be bad if done correctly. I'm mostly looking at Star Wars and Mad Max.

I'm super excited, the universe could be awesome to walk around in for sure :)

Thing is I felt a lot more excitement about me being able to explore New York in The Division before it launched than I feel right now about the coming ability to explore Pandora. I've already been there, I've seen the movie twice in the theater and then a couple of times on bluray, and I don't think that I want to explore it anymore. That's the beauty of new IPs - they may turn out bad, sure, but until they do they give hope for the better. No such hope here.

Incoming 2 hr E3 talk.

hahahaha, I got that reference.

Yup.. I work at Ubisoft and I found out about it through this thread.

Yeah gee, I wonder why they don't publicly show all of their unannounced project to all of their 10000 employees !(not kidding, it's the actual number)
I mean it's not like they have a leak problem right ? why all the secrecy ?

I wonder how long you've been working there if it seems surprising to you. It's like you got in 2 weeks ago and just wanted to post on the internet that you work there.
