UBISOFT is dying - market shares collapse by 85% from 2021 to 2025

I've enjoyed a ton of Ubisoft games in the past, but I don't think I've even played a game of theirs since AC Origins, which was alright for the 30 or so hours I played before giving up.

Best case scenario is some IPs I love get sold to a company that will make better use of them. Worst case scenario is they get sold to a company that uses them in even sloppier ways than Ubislop, which at least remains mostly single player, sort of narrative driven experiences.

I'd rather pay money for a game where you can kill droves of these annoying brats.

That's a huge untapped market right there.

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
I do still think everyone here underestimates AC Shadows sales potential, the game looks good and has the branding / marketing. Will very likely be a big hit

So many people think AC: Shadows is going to have a tough time in the market with many big games launching in February. But Ubisoft has one ace up its sleeve: AC: Shadows launches smack in the middle of Black History month. US media are going to love the "black Samurai in 16th century Japan" angle. If marketed right the game could get loads of free publicity and will be critic proof in that respect.

They need to stop making mediocre games. What happened to ybe creativity they used to have?
Splinter Cell, Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia, Far Cry 2, etc

It is the big game in February, however. Monster Hunter Wilds is there too but it's two weeks later. If it and Ghost of Yotei were launching closer together I think it might've had a problem, but I don't expect we'll hear much more on that until later in the Spring.

Ubisoft is being mismanaged from head to toe. Michel Ancel’s interview really does shine a light on how fucked up the culture is at Ubisoft.

I don’t wish them to go bankrupt and be erased but then again I can’t help but feel that they deserve everything that is happening to them what with the soulless repetitive shit they have been releasing year after year.

I won’t lie, considering that Rayman 2: The Great Escape is one of my most all time favourite games I was sorely disappointed by how he was abandoned for Rabbids, even considering that Origins and Legends were excellent games.

Splinter Cell declined in quality after Chaos Theory and progressively got worse. Beyond Good and Evil 2? Yeah enough said. All these amazing IP’s left out to rot in favour of repetitive slop like Assassins Creed and Far Cry.

Tragic.

Yeah no shit, guess what that's what happens when you go from making incredible games to shitty games

If you're not over leveraged on UBI shorts expiring in March, you're most likely ngmi. There's still time imo. There is literally no way to lose.

Ass Shadows drops: stonks go down
Ass Shadows delayed: stonks go down

Institutional investing is just as bad at knowing what the gaming markets wants as publishers are. Take advantage of that.

I realize now, I can't cheer on the death of Ubisoft, they're responsible for so much stuff I loved through the years. I at least owe them the benefit of some small hope.

We still have these gamers:

First party Sony games can't lose. *Concord*. Eh, that's a fluke
Generational EA AAA RPGs can't lose. "DAVG*. Eh, that's a fluke
Naughty Dog release trailers can't lose. "Intergalactic". Eh, that's a fluke
First party Microsoft RPGs can't lose. "Avowed". Eh, that's a fluke
Ubi AAAA Games can't lose. "Skull & Bones" Eh, that's a fluke

"Ass Creed Shadows is gonna be good. idk why people don't just wait and see."

In 2036 when we're all playing emulated Xbox 360 games on current day PC hardware in the darkweb with other 50 year old millennials, you'll see.

The middle ground is to stand aside and be neutral. Cheering for the company is not necessary. I personally rarely buy their games, even though i recognize they do have some popular franchises.
I'm in the same boat. I used to like Ubisoft a hell of a lot more. Even today, I purchase more old Ubisoft games that I did not play from better times than I do modern Ubisoft titles. Though I did purchase recently the new Prince of Persia and am pretty eager to play that when I get the time, I have heard really good things.

The amazing thing is if you check the stock prices of all the big companies in gaming... EA, TTWO, Nintendo, they are at or close to all time highs. After the covid rocketship, some tech companies dropped, but lately rebounded back to the highs. Sony and MS are different as their companies have other product lines, but MS is way up and Sony is slowly creeping back to the recent high.

For UBI to be down this much in still an overall tech bull market is insane.

Check out their stock price by choosing the 5Y or All Time chart timing.

Ubi failing is not better for gamers. Anyone saying otherwise is selling something.
Ubisoft not selling well could be an indicator for other game companies of what people want and don't want in their games.

Having liked Ubisoft in the past, when their games were fresh and original, I now can barely find a game of theirs worth playing, other than the new 2d Rayman games and Prince of Persia the lost crown.

If it'll scare companies like EA and Take two to make more original games that people want, I can't see how it won't be better for gamers. Did I try to sell something to anyone?

Realistically nothing will change from releasing the game during that month. People who buy AC because they like the formula will still buy Shadows and they won't care what others have to say (positive or negative). People who don't like the controversies surrounding this title will have another reminder why to skip it or avoid it day1.

You seriously think people actually give a fuck about some 'Black history month'? Especially in Europe? LOL

Ubisoft fucked this really up. FarCry 6 was a disaster to me (I'm a big fan of the series), the last good AC was Origins. I'm currently playing Prince of Persia Lost Crown and it's a really good game but the remake of the OG Prince of Persia was delayed many times. Ubisoft used to make great games in the early 2000s.

If you let talent go away... and just keep the ppl that fill the agenda then you end developing what you deserve... bad games full of shit no one is even willing to buy... and this isn't just for Ubi but for every developer than thinks that pleasing a minority will make you have great sales. For god's sake just make games fun to play directed to the ppl that want to play games.

I'm inclined to think this game will struggle too. Quite a few of the people complaining are AC fans so it's directly impacting the fan base (although there are many who won't care as you say). Plus, there's been very few games mired in controversy that then went on to become sales juggernauts. At the very least, I doubt it will meet Ubi's sales expectations or significantly help the company recover from its dire financial situation.

Shadows will sell a lot but not nearly as much to redeem Ubisoft.
It will sell as much as an AC would do. The thing is ROI and the monster Ubi had become (too much people in site, real estate is insane, etc...) The game delay itself would cost 30 millions dollars (estimated, I think it will be less : 10 or 15). Adding the "game budget", it will need to sell kilotons, just to get even.
AC shadow will not be a lifesaver for Ubi, far from it.

I'm sorry for the Rayman franchise and the artists that I know who are working there, but Ubisoft needs to wither and disappear once and for all.
AC Shadows will probably fail expectations, it was delayed as a last attempt to prevent the catastrophe, but that probably won't be enough as pretty much everything about Ubi games is rotten to the bone nowadays.

AC set in Japan will probably be enough for good sales, it's a huge ip still.

Overall it doesn't look good with that many many employees and borrowing money. I'd guess they have to downsize and get some excitement in the shooter space.
