People who make a stand for not learning french in Quebec warrant the ire of the vast majority of francophones, not just extremists.
It's not that, some people like me do want to learn French, but it's hard to learn Qebecois French outside of, well, Quebec.

People asking "can you survive with English" are sometimes asking "can I get around and not die of hunger until I learn the language?"

You can totally live in Quebec City while being only an English speaker. Got three neighbors that is the case. But it would be more difficult than MTL, that for sure. In Saguenay, I don't think so.

There's quite a story behind all this but it's not the subject of the thread.

Uuuuh, "Québécois French" is... French. It's not a completely different language, not any more than American English VS British English.

I know it probably wasn't the intent, but this was a bit insulting.

Did they say where in Saguenay? I have a lot of family in Alma. Might be some interest.

And honestly, the QC language isn't that bad up there. It's a thick accent, but there really aren't that many colloquialisms besides bastardised English words (c'est bein hot! c'est full cool!). Probably not the best place to learn though...joual is not the most pleasing take on the language, heh.

If you are going to a nation that is as nationalist as Québec and have 37% of your salary paid by our government, you can act slightly less entitled (and learn french) or go somewhere else.

People who make a stand for not learning french in Quebec warrant the ire of the vast majority of francophones, not just extremists.
And here I was, hoping that past 1945 most people should be aware that being nationalist hardly qualifies as a legitimate or respectable position.

What is entitled about not learning all kinds of languages while on a job search, but instead only starting to learn a new language of a country, when you start working there and feel it is a position you would like to keep for an extended period of time? If you are a game developer looking for a job, which languages are you required to learn as to not be considered entitled? Just French? Or also German (Blue Byte, Crytek), Polish (CD Project Red), Japanese (Nintendo, Capcom, many more obviously).....

Asking whether a job in an international business requires the regional language in order to apply is very natural if it is not explicitly outlined from the beginning.
