Im a fan of Anderson, but I'm glad to see his reign over. He lost his passion for fighting a long time ago and Id rather see hungry fighters like Wiedman take over the division. Let Anderson fight Roy Jones Jr and the likes of Hendo, Wanderlei, Cung Le or Shogun for superfights. Anderson having the belt was a detriment for the UFC.

Silva didn't hint he threw the fight, but he hinted his heart wasn't really in it.

Reminds me a lot of Roy Jones at the late stages... just didn't have the reflexes to keep doing what they did before.

Roy Jones hinted the same thing right before he went into the right for Tarver 2.

Agreed, there's really 3 possibilities:

1) It was part of some strategy to suck Weidman into a standup fight, which didn't work (as you said, Weidman was slipping Anderson's punches/kicks and hitting him some when he was clowning, got an easy TD and did damage, nearly got a sub)
2) Silva just totally was disrespecting him and clowning, which proves he isn't the GOAT (the GOAT wouldn't disrepect his opponent like that).
3) It was a work (which throws Silva's whole reign into question if that's the case).

Muhammad Ali taunts people all the time, that's why he is the GOAT.

I'm glad silva lost. That was crazy though. Didn't look like he got caught. He was still dodging when the "last" punch came in. Not saying it was thrown but even my girlfriend who has never seen a fight ever thought it was strange.

Looking at the vine video... finally someone stepped in when Silva was doing his head weaving thing, and you can see for a split second Anderson had dipped back a bit too far avoiding the first punch, he was in a sense stuck in that position, and Wiedman had perfectly stepped in leading with a well targeted punch.

This wasn't staged, it was someone stepping into Silva's weaving-defense-thing he does while catching him at the exact moment he couldn't really get out of the way. Typically Silva can roll a punch and not take the full force of it, but his neck was cranked back as fast as it could go already.

This was legit. Kind of lucky but it happened.

Now for Silva to destroy lower ranked people? Or get fired?

Who knows at this point? It seems Anderson just wants to go for the big money superfights now, but how many of those are there? 2?

I still feel like there's going to be an instant rematch when things cool down a bit. It would now be a huge fight, since Weidman will now be a name, and Anderson lost this one so devastatingly. They can easily build hype around a rematch.

Edit: he's definitely not getting fired though :p

nah if you watch the slowmo replay he got clocked. it was strange-looking because he had his hands down like nothing was gonna hit him haha.

Anderson clowned directly into that punch because he was faking being hurt. Totally disrespectful to the sport. Should be an auto point deduction for acting like that.

For people wondering why I mentioned he was 38... I didn't really finish my thought..

He's 38.. and its understandable if he isn't all that upset. He's had the pressure of a champion for a long ass time now. He's probably ready for a bit of a rest.

After such a long reign, I became so used to Anderson just winning no matter what. This was the upset I was kind of hoping for, but never expected to actually see.

Silva threw the fight. Saw it coming. Made it even more obvious with his retirement speech. Probably mad some nice $$$$ betting against himself.

Man I can't believe all the people on my Facebook feed crying that Silva threw the fight. Lets say this was all a plan and he wanted to throw the fight, wouldn't he do so in the best way possible? Maybe something that won't tarnish his legacy? Why would he opt to throw the fight by getting clocked while acting like a complete dickhead?

Now when people think of Silva, they'll still remember what a dominant fighter he was. But that will now be after they stop laughing at how he bitched out at the end and was beat in the most humiliating way possible. This is, of course, assuming he was being honest about not fighting for belts anymore.

Either way, watching him prance around like that and get knocked out was worth $60 all by itself.

Just to be a completist in expressing my opinion that circumstances robbed Weidman of the credit he's due, the stop was too fast. No-chin couture used to get more time to recover than Anderson. The guy who KOs Anderson should get a highlight him standing over a out completely unconscious Silva for his trouble. Same thing I say about Hendo KOing Fedor...

Anderson was out. When he came to he tired to grapple the ref. It was a legit stop.

LOL People calling it WWE ... they do not know Anderson is very disrespectful. He usually beats his opponents mentally by taunting and embarrassing them.

Chris Wiedman just didn't get psyched by him.

Anderson disrespects his opponents, just watch Anderson vs Damian Mia... the spellings are not correct.

Jon Jones and GSP just missed their chances at a major payout.

That too...this is as dumb as Pacman giving a 4th fight to Marquez.
Why risk it with all that money waiting in a super fight?!

He gets in there realizes he can take Weidman and stuff his takedowns then just clowns to get KOed.

Since I hate arrogance I loved how Anderson lost. Well done, you lost your belt in the most dishonorable way possible.

I didn't watch this and get the benefit of multi-angle slow motion replays, I'm just looking at a .gif. I wasn't aware this was Sherdog, no need for snark.

You probably shouldn't look at one poor camera angle and jump to a huge conclusion. Dude was out on his feet and then Weidman added a couple more huge hits to him on the ground.

If I had to guess, Mr. White and Mr. Fertitta went to Anderson and told him "we want to go with the Wildman as the future of the company because he's young, good looking, and American." And Anderson agreed to take a dive, give the kid a clean win, give him a glowing endorsement, while moving into some sort of legends role where he'll only do superfights.

LOL.

Anderson's big-ticket corporate sponsors (his banner looked like a "Who's Who" Fortune 500 logo list tonight) pay him way more than Uncle Dana. I doubt they enjoyed watching him look like a disrespectful moron while he got his ticket punched for being a cocky jackass.

If Silva was going to take a dive, he wouldn't do it like that. He'd make himself look like a brave warrior, not like a self-punking fool.
