UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman |OT| God or Fraud

After such a long reign, I became so used to Anderson just winning no matter what. This was the upset I was kind of hoping for, but never expected to actually see.

I wasn't hoping for an upset, I like Silva, but I was at least hoping that when he eventually lost he was actually trying and taking the shit seriously. I've always defended his clownish shit in the ring. I feel dumb right now.

I'm not so concerned that Silva lost, it's just the way that he lost. Like wasn't even trying. Why wouldn't he try to finish first round? Or throw more counter punches? But I guess he's got that good UFC money now...

Man I can't believe all the people on my Facebook feed crying that Silva threw the fight. Lets say this was all a plan and he wanted to throw the fight, wouldn't he do so in the best way possible? Maybe something that won't tarnish his legacy? Why would he opt to throw the fight by getting clocked while acting like a complete dickhead?

Now when people think of Silva, they'll still remember what a dominant fighter he was. But that will now be after they stop laughing at how he bitched out at the end and was beat in the most humiliating way possible. This is, of course, assuming he was being honest about not fighting for belts anymore.

Either way, watching him prance around like that and get knocked out was worth $60 all by itself.

Yup. Throwing a fight? Let's do it by getting MASSACRED because I'm taunting like I usually do, and just lost the reaction time to get it right.

That shit was worth MILLIONS. I'll buy the replay 8 times just for this shit.

Anderson was out. When he came to he tired to grapple the ref. It was a legit stop.

Yup. Grapplefucking Herb Dean? You're having a bad time

this fight reminded me of Frankie Edgar beating Penn. I dont think too many people gave Edgar a chance due to Penns rep, but his victory ushered in a new main eventer for the UFC.

Don't fight Jones, Anderson. You'll just be humiliated even worse.

Anderson already said he thinks he'd lose against Jones.

Crazy like the GOAT throwing a fight?

GOAT is really hard to accurately measure when the guy who is considered as such is still actively fighting. There's always that chance.

I know it sucks to see a hero get embarrassed, but come on guys. Hes always been a showboater, and this time, he paid for it.

Exactly. People talking about him diving are either uninitiated to the sport, unaware that showboating is what he does to mindfuck his opponents, or are generally in denial that their MMA God is a mortal man.

For the record... that's how Weidman beat Uriah Hall. Uriah tried to showboat out of strikes and got caught. Lot of rich longshots tonight.

Look up Weidman's Pre-UFC fights. Fuck it, I'll do it for you.

And we all remember that Uriah was touted as "The next Anderson Silva" by both coaches on his season of TUF right? Don't get me wrong. I think Uriah has a ton of talent but this is pretty much par for the course for Weidman against showboaters.

I stood my ground, I will take what I get.
Fucked up when you can not expect a champion to take a fight seriously and fight to win.
Going to take a UFC break for a while I think, but not until I get to enjoy Dana's shit fit.

Who knows at this point? It seems Anderson just wants to go for the big money superfights now, but how many of those are there? 2?

I still feel like there's going to be an instant rematch when things cool down a bit. It would now be a huge fight, since Weidman will now be a name, and Anderson lost this one so devastatingly. They can easily build hype around a rematch.

Edit: he's definitely not getting fired though :p

A rematch against Weidman is now a big money fight, that would do huge PPV numbers. Sure, not like matches against Bones or GSP would do, but I believe he wants no part of Bones, and a GSP match doesn't make sense now

He always does this shit. He just got caught this time.

woke up to this, predictable booking by Zuffa, very Dory Funk Jr vs Harley Race in 1973.

they'll now build Jacare as the new brazilian hero to avenge Silva's "loss". smart stuff.

That too...this is as dumb as Pacman giving a 4th fight to Marquez.
Why risk it with all that money waiting in a super fight?!

He gets in there realizes he can take Weidman and stuff his takedowns then just clowns to get KOed.

Yup, how many super fights have been fucked over by fighters dodging eachother? Anderson's legacy is hurt far more by this than a loss to Jones.

All because he decided to clown around.

Good observation friend. Now that the Spider has officially "lost". Where does he rank on the all time list? Before or After the great Last Emperor Freddy Lenko?
Fedor at least went out winging bungalows. I have no hespect for how Canderson went out.

Oh yeah, within bounds of legit stop, but I'm saying he should have been laid out Nate Quarry stiff for a champ with that record...would have only been another couple of shots. Nog and Couture used to both get much more benefit-of-the-doubt than their chins warranted even when they weren't champ, with Nog being able to sleepwalk through some KOs here and there.

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
Roy Jones hinted the same thing right before he went into the right for Tarver 2.

Roy should have retired after the Ruiz fight.. was never the same. It's sad to say that was a fucking decade ago, but it was.. and his prime was 20 years ago when he beat Hops, Toney and Tate.

I hope he's done, but I heard he was still looking for another fight.. after his horrible KO to Danny Green and the outright horrible KO against Lebedev.. it's sad. Just like if this was to happen again to Silva.

Muhammad Ali taunts people all the time, that's why he is the GOAT.

Yeah, and he has his ass handed to him by Spinks, Holmes, and fucking Trevor Berbick at the end of his career.

If he didn't clown around, he wouldn't be Anderson. Look, if he did all the same clowning and ended up winning, people would be talking up his matrix moves and how he's invincible. It's a risk that he took.

I don't know man, he looked pretty flattened to me. I don't follow this closely though.

Anderson is still the GOAT. In fact, had he fought Weidman seriously he probably would have stopped him in round 3, Weidman couldn't take him down on his last attempt.

Bones would have killed Silva.
Although I think it's a bit of an unfair fight (Silva's not a legit 205), Bones should've been the one to do it...

I wasn't all that impressed with Weidman tonight. He lost a bit of steam in the 2nd as his takedown attempt was stuffed easily. So it looked like he was gonna have to trade with Anderson for the rest of the fight.

I'm left with the feeling that any fighter with punching power could've done what Weidman did to him.

he'd dismantle him but andreson has a fetish to showboat sooooooo yeah i have no doubt that silva would easily beat weidman if he decided to be serious.

This sounds absolutely ridiculous... and well, I suppose it is BUT
Maybe Silva doesn't want to fight for the belt immediately because he wants Weidman to fight a few times, defend the belt, make a big name for himself before Silva comes back for a super-fight with him?

What fights are there left for Silva now? Jones beats him 9/10 times and GSP wants no part of him. Let Weidman build up a name for himself as champ. Silva can take time off to spend on his gym/family/acting - then come back for a super-fight?

There are some serious holes in this plan. Weidman will probably only get better and Silva will only get worse with time, but maybe Silva is confident.

This is such a strange win/loss. Obviously Silva just got caught, this shit happens when you fight a beat like Weidman and show boat, but I still think Silva (up until he got knocked the fuck out) looked like he could handle Weidman. He was stuffing his TD attempts in the 2nd pretty easily and in the first he was able to get up to him feet relatively quickly. At that point in the second when he was stuffing take downs it really looked like it was going to be a long frustrating night for Weidman.

In my opinion, Anderson lost the first round. The 2nd was even, but hard to score because jackass was being disrespectful. I don't see the whole Anderson had this being anywhere near the truth.

Silva almost got heel-hooked in the first.

Why? I mean, Anderson has been doing this for at least his last four fights now, not taking them seriously. So yeah, we can't complain about him doing it when he keeps doing it and drawing more and more people to each consecutive fight.

Plus, why take a break? TONS of talent in the UFC. Rather than stopping because an over-the-hill superstar took a nasty one to the chin, why not start going for the young guys who want to be there at 35? All I think when I think "No more Silva" is "Sweet, time for Bones and more."

wait, people legit think silva threw the fight? this isnt some lame mma-gaf-ish troll attempt?

for fucks sake

Silva has at various times been a showman, an assassin, a magician and a superhuman in the cage.

Tonight he was too much of a showman and not enough of any of the others.

It sucks that Anderson lost like that, I wanted to see a good fight, but it's PERFECT that this is how he losses after clowning around in so many fights.
I was surprised when he signed a new contract with the UFC, even back then he talked about how he wanted to retire.
Not looking forward to his future fights much because it seems he only fights for the money now, I hope he proves me wrong. At least it will be entertaining to see Jon Jones ragdoll him around the octagon.

Im not convinced Anderson isn't going to take the rematch.. especially after watching the tape. He stuffed Weidman.. he could ride out a decision easily.

Anderson always plays like he is going to retire... and then he signs a 10 fight deal.

Lets stop with the probably stuff and deal with the reality that he was knocked the fuck out
