America? Ever be safe from terrorism, George?

"Whether or not we can be ever fully safe is up -- you know, is up in the air. I would hope we could make it a lot more safe by staying on the offensive,"

JOHN KERRY CANNOT LEAD WHEN HE SAYS TERRORISM MUST RETURN TO A "NUISANCE" LEVEL!!

Do you think his mind wanders when he says this shit? It's not that hard to say the same thing over and over again, he's probably going to be scolded by cheney for this :D

If only the Kerry campaign weren't worthless. They could just take this quote (out of context, if need be), and repeat it so much that the quote scrolls across people's forehead like a ticker. But then, that'd be fighting fire with fire, and Kerry's campaign doesn't have it in them it appears.

Did you even read this? Seriously.

yeah, and i don't give a shit. :) either the mods can start a political thread where all news can be posted and discussion allowed, or they can have multiple threads on the UPCOMING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

start a fucking sticky topic, then. jesus fucking christ.

bunch of goddamn babies on this forum. WAH, WAH, HE BROKE A RULE

we can always re-use older threads and keep discussions going on there. But still, I don't get it. Why can't the other people just ignore the politics threads? Skipping over sports threads is second nature for me.

well, i think boogie is referring to the number of my topics that are locked. anyway, why can't we have a sticky thread or something so we wouldn't have this problem?

We have yet to agree on how we're going to handle the upcoming election shitstorm, but an official thread is likely.

Two threads would be a better idea. One to talk about the election, the other to talk about the inevitable lawsuits over voter fraud and the EC in general. :p

Oh come on. No need for a sticky. It can be like e3, where the threads will flood the forum. It's too hard to talk about certain states, gaffes, etc on only 1-2 stickies.

Groan. You don't honestly believe this is a FF do you?

A what?

Edit: Oh, nevermind. But yes, yes I do think it's a flip-flop. Bush can't seem to decide whether or not we can win, what he says is determined by the "tone" he wants to set at any given campaign rally.

For one thing, I think we need an official Electoral College count thread.

Speaking of which, did you hear what they are doing in Colorado? It sounds pretty cool.

Facing Colorado voters on Nov. 2: a ballot measure to change the state constitution so that Colorado’s nine electoral votes would be allocated in proportion to the popular vote in the state instead of a winner-take-all basis.

If George Bush got 52 percent of the popular vote in Colorado on Nov. 2, he’d be allocated five electoral votes instead of all nine.

If Democratic candidate John Kerry got 47 percent of the Colorado vote, he’d get four electoral votes, instead of none

Sounds fair to me...

Why not just create a political forum? for the next few weeks? I know it goes against the GA grain, but there will be so many unique political news bits, and digging through a huge 1,000 post thread to keep up with them will become very annoying.

Political forum, then leave it up until shitstorm over (which will no doubt last a while if the vote will be as tight as expected), then merge it into one grand thread of doom and put it in the archives.

If they do that, then it should be done for all states. I know that something like that is already done in other states, but if only certain states adopt it, it can make things more lopsided. What's to prevent, say, California's electoral votes being split while Texas remains whole?

States decide how their electoral votes are distributed. I believe Oragon also has it set up that the electoral vote is split along the lines of the popular vote.

Yeah I understand that... but my point still stands that it can unbalance things. Oregon is supposed to be a swing state with7 electoral votes. On the other hand, say a big state like California with 55 electoral votes... that would make a large impact if those votes were split.

A few times now he's been honest. In that you can't completely destroy terrorism. But the wheels of his campaign are the alleged strength and resolve. That Bush can make America safe. He's just not intelligent enough to juggle what he truly thinks and what his formula requires. So, he contradicts himself.

it's started:)

President Bush and Sen. John Kerry stayed on the offensive in swing states Sunday as the presidential race entered its final full week. In a television interview, Bush said it is "up in the air" whether the nation can ever be fully safe from another terror attack and suggested terrorists may still be contemplating ways to disrupt the election.

Kerry ridiculed Bush's statement, suggesting it echoed an earlier assertion — later withdrawn — by the president that the war on terror could not be won.

"You make me president of the United States, we're going to win the war on terror," Kerry said at an evening rally in Boca Raton, Fla. "It's not going to be up in the air whether or not we make America safe."

It has lasted 6 hours or so already. I thought it would have been locked a long time ago.

Wow, check out this Ohio absentee ballot:

Voting for Bush? Better not vote in the green space right next to his name...

I got my ballot and you only have to match the candidate that corresponds to the number. The actual booklet doesn't have to match up to the ballot.

*looking at mine right now*

Bush is second from the bottom on mine (Cuyahoga County)

EDIT: In fact, they TELL you to look for the number, not to line it up with the ballot.

Hmmmm....

I'm looking at my absentee ballot booklet right now.

That ballot, in the upper left-hand corner says "1-3" and mine says "1-4." Also, as I mentioned earlier, the "disqualified candidate" is the very first choice, while the one here is second.

My ballot, from top to bottom:

Candidate Disqualified (no number)
Michael A. Peroutka (10)
Michael Badnarik (2)
George W. Bush (4)
John F. Kerry (6)

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
um... why does the system have to be so fucking complicated in the US?

In the UK :

Piece of paper - say, 4 candidates names with a box to the right of each name

instructions : Put an X in the box of who you want to vote for, you can only vote for one person dumbasses.

It's that simple.

What the HELL is going on with that paper full of numbers?!!?
