there's another trick i've always been curious about: how do you make an entire deck of cards appear as aces after shuffling it and such? and what is this trick called?

There's a lot of different types of gimmicked decks, you can achieve this effect for example using a Svengali deck.

As for the OP, it's invisible thread, and sometimes a mechanical device is used to draw the thread as well, e.g. the Spider Pen.

I think you might be referring to the "Knockout Deck". In the following video, he changes all the cards to Queens, and changes the backside color from blue to red.

There's a device called a spider pen I came across whilst looking up a similar trick. I don't know how it works, but I'm guessing its uses a similar magicians wax but a pen device allows the object to be moved and pulled in even more crazy ways.
