The latest UK charts are in, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - originally released 2,659 days ago and currently sitting at over 62 million units sold - is back on top once again.

It beats the likes of EA Sports FC 24, Hogwarts Legacy, and Minecraft, with Luigi's Mansion 2 HD retaining 5th position for a second week running. In fact, other than Grand Theft Auto V and WWE 2K24, every game in the top 10 can be found on the Nintendo Switch.

Elsewhere, Elden Ring sees a massive drop in sales to land at number 38, while Mortal Kombat 1 enjoyed a significant boost to bag number 14.

These are trickle sales at this point, probably from a price promotion. Also, MK1 isn’t available on PS4.
Perhaps better to make the point using something like the last gen release of Hogwarts Legacy.

But yeah, there are still a significant amount of players still on PS4.

Guys, the reason MK11 sells more on PS4 is because there is a free PS5 upgrade even with the disc. If you buy the PS4 version you get both a PS4 and PS5 version of the game. If you buy a PS5 version you only get a PS5 version. They're the same price.

Consumers are more smart than you think.

Ignoring PS4/Xbox install base at this point is a stupid move. We already saw games that was supposed to push next gen using the excuse of leaving last gen behind, but coming with terrible performance, terrible image quality and bugs and glitchs all the way up.

This argument failed. They still can sell next gen system while promoving the ultimate differences between last and next gen. Not to mention, if the next gen version fail to delivery the promisse perfomance, the last gen version running on the next gen console can solve most of the issue.

I can see them sitting on it to break launch numbers. It’s the most expected game ever destined to break all day one sales records. But for that you need to have the maximum amount of users.

If its ready its getting released. Its literally the biggest entertainment franchise of all time.

It doesn't wait for a userbase, the userbase comes to GTA. No hyperbole.

PS4 has a bigger physical attach ratio than the PS5. These numbers don't really show us much nowadays. You have 2 games released this year inside the top 10.

If we had overall data from all games bought last week this would look different. And a revenue chart from each game out there it would look even more different.

I'd love to know how much these physical #1 games sell in the UK. Do we have data for that?

They won't purposefully delay it. That would be stupid. They will release it for the current-gen consoles in 2025. In 2026, you will see a PC port. Then in 2027/28, the PC version will be ported to the PS6 generation. It's actually much smarter to release it before the PS6 is a thing because PS5 users will just buy it on the PS6 a second time.

Not exact numbers but if Mario Kart is top then numbers are low. It's not an interesting Summer this year (or at least in Europe it isnt).

Id love to see actual numbers because charting at 33 in the UK boxed charts probably means you sold around 50 copies tops.
