It has to be surely, either that or Half Life

Given that this seems to be chronological they've already gone past Half-Life.

At least so far it seems this is purely about games that grew gaming in terms of the influence they had on non-gamers/culture in general (Night Trap being the obvious example of a game in purely because of that) rather than how they influenced design of games in general (even if it's a fortunate coincidence that most of the games in the list have done both).

Edit: Of course I guess the clue's in the name.

Why hasn't Pokemon or Zelda been mentioned yet :(

So yes, it was a tricky list to come up with and any of the titles could be substituted for something else. There are also some glaring omissions that people will complain about. Zelda for instance. I wanted Xcom on the list but you can't really argue that it's a hugely significant title in the history of gaming in terms of influence. But Monkey Island is on there to represent interactive storytelling and the involvement of Hollywood. Starcraft is in there to represent esports. It's video gaming boiled down to a sort of… thick sauce.

it just goes to show how diverse and amazing gaming as a medium is that you could literally do this show 1000 times over with an entirely different list and it would be just as important and relevant as this one.

Games like syndicate, Normality, Black and White, magic Carpet, Theme Park, Half Life etc.

The list could go on forever.

And lets not forget phantasmagoria 2 Puzzle of the flesh "Your a freak curtis!" LOL

True, I think a lot of discussion afterwards will simply be "why wasn't game X, Y, Z on the list?" But even a 2 hour show is cutting it impossibly fine for the amount of genuine innovation this industry has seen.

NES wasn't a big thing in this country when Zelda would have made its big impact. They did mention it with SMB with the Miyamoto segment.

No Pokémon is odd though. It was one of the biggest crazes in terms of vieogames with my generation. Guess the problem is that a lot of the talking heads in this shows are of teh previous generation.

Zelda didn't really change the world.

Pokemon, on the other hand... the social interaction enforced by that game deserves mention. But w/e, Parappa was worth it.

"Son, boyfriend or husband"

Because god forbid a woman plays the game.

What a way to show yourself as completely ignorant.
