Don't want to see Labour win again (ID cards are a big no for me), but could never bring myself to vote Tory, so I'll be shooting for the Lib Dems. Really hoping that Nick Griffin and his National Front members won't make any headway.

Not that it matters, as I just moved from a safe Tory seat (John Redwood) to an almost safe Tory seat, so I can't see anyone but the Conservatives winning here anyway.

Edit: Forshame OP! Where is the Monster Raving Looney party section! They're an important part of politics, as it's a way of spoiling your ballot while still getting your vote counted

Enemies Of Reason had a good update of the election today:
http://enemiesofreason.co.uk/
The excitement starts here! Here at Enemies of Reason we'll be bringing you the latest election GE10 (yeah!) updates AS THEY HAPPEN.

5.01am Yes, I'm here IN THE OFFICE. See, look at the time. LOOK AT THE TIME. I am WORKING on my election updates. Yeah! Just look at the time, yes? See, you can see how good this is going to be by the fact I've started EARLY IN THE MORNING to get the very best updates to you about what's going to happen with the election.

7.13am OK, so not much has happened yet, but it's still early doors. The cleaner gave me that sad little shake of the head about an hour ago. Not quite sure why. Anyway! Look, GORDON BROWN IS GOING TO SEE THE QUEEN today and we'll be here to cover it when he does.

7.33am Sky News are interviewing some people about some things. I read something on a blog earlier that seemed quite important. And then there are the papers, which I imagine are covering this as well, writing about it and so on, and so forth. So yes, you really get the sense that something spectacularly interesting is going to happen today. Yeah!

7.58am BBC News 24 have cut to a shot of a man standing in front of some buildings. No sign of Iain Dale on television yet. Is he all right?

8.03am Apparently someone else was being interviewed on Sky News, but I'd drifted off to sleep while watching the sports roundup on BBC News 24. I'll have to try and rectify that kind of thing as this LIVE AS IT HAPPENS coverage carries on. Otherwise it's not going to look good on me. Perhaps, in hindsight, it wasn't such a good idea to come in at 5am to start all this. But LOOK AT THE TIME!

8.24am So what will happen is this. Gordon Brown will go to the Buckingham Palace, and then he'll go through some doors, walking over some carpet, using his feet to propel himself forwards. Then he will go into a room - we're not sure at this stage whether he will have to open the door himself or whether someone will open the door for him - and then he will talk to the Queen. She is a nice old lady who shoots things. Then he will ask her to dissolve parliament, or they may talk about general chit-chat first, and then he'll ask. But at some point he'll ask, and then she'll say yes, and then IT'S GENERAL ELECTION TIME BABY! Yeah.

8.32am Apparently not showing the correct gravity for this occasion. Will try to moderate excitement. Another man is being interviewed on Sky News. I can see his face.

8.44am The Lib Dems' Battle Bus has been spotted somewhere, apparently. It is yellow and it has pictures of men on the side. That's all we know at this stage. I wish I could tell you more but I'm kind of in here, trapped. I feel a bit guilty when I go for a toilet break in case I miss some man being interviewed on Sky News. (May have to improvise desk-toilet system involving empty Volvic bottles.)

8.57am No sign of Gordon yet!

9.01am This election is going to be the most closely fought in history, probably, and the first election where the internet will play a big role, of course, somehow. I think, anyway. David Cameron is going to speak to a classroom full of children, at a school, at some point during the day. No sign of anyone wearing a hat to visit a bakery yet, so that's a disappointment.

9.06am Nick Clegg is going to visit a lard factory in Lincolnshire, I'm being told. Perhaps you wear one of those hats there? I hope so.

9.09am Of course there's going to be a lot of speculation over the polls. The latest polls we have show the Conservatives in the lead, just like every other poll for the past few months. More on this as we get it.

9.12am A man is being interviewd on BBC News 24. I can see it happening. The two men are talking about things.

9.22am Haven't had time to read the papers yet - been too busy looking at News 24 and Sky News on the screens in front of me. It feels like I'm slipping away into a dreamscape of men in suits, talking to each other and nodding, with the occasional helicopter shot of the "Westminster Village". I wish I could fly. Wouldn't it be great to fly? I'd love to have wings, and then I'd fly right out of the window...

9.37am Slight accident with Volvic bottle. No-one saw it though.

9.43am Two men are talking to each other on Sky News. They are talking about things and although they might disagree, they are being quite cordial about it.

9.47am Someone was interviewing someone on the radio just now. This just goes to show, I think, where the battle lines are going to be drawn in this campaign.

9.51am Have been called into editor's office. Ominous.

This might be a little off topic, but 38 degrees is a great website to help you pester your MP about important issues. They tell you who your MP is, and provide all the stuff you need to get in touch with them. After all, they are supposed to represent our opinions, right? :D

My vote is very much there to be won.

I'm in Alistair Darlings constituency, not sure if it's a potential swing, going to check out the other candidates tonight.

Looking forward to these debates. I don't really have the time to trawl through each partys manifesto so I will be likley casting my votes based on how these go.

I believe he is quite likely to lose, it isn't very far down the Tory target list. Wouldn't worry about him anyway, he's a Blairite who has been disloyal to Brown by telling the truth to voters about the scale of spending cuts required. Ed Balls will be chancellor if Labour win a majority.

Watching this debill debate has cost the Lib dems my vote today. Spoiled paper it is *sigh*

The only 2 MP's to come out of this reading with any dignity so far are Austin Mitchell and Tom Watson, both labour MP's.

I find it hard to believe that you would vote for a party based solely on a piracy bill rather than policies on the economy, health, education and defence. :/

Yeah, because piracy is all this bill is about.

I'm currently debating who to vote for and it's pretty much a choice between Lib-dem and Labour where I am and funnily enough, this bill is very important to me.

Can't watch this digital bill debate anymore, getting too pissed off

It's really fucked me off. This bunch of ignorant fucks are so clueless. Most of these fuckers seem to be saying 'Yeah the bill is shite but we'll vote it through anyway' I wish more of them would grow some balls.

The unforeseen consequences of this bill are going to be glorious fuck ups.

Well, to be fair, they won't be releasing policies until all at the same time in their manifestos, because they could copy each other. Labour do that all the time.

I wouldn't expect many deficit cutting policies in them though. They all seem clueless there. :lol

Budget deficit means government spending is greater than tax receipts in any given year. Fiscal deficit is the total sum of all previous budget deficits. Just like any business or individual, you cant go on spending more than you earn so cutting it is good. You just have to decide how quickly you think it should be cut.

Dayum. I didn't know Obama was running in the UK.
Tories are basically just copying his campaign/marketing slogan:

Man, after watching some of the campaigning this morning it seems like Gordon Brown decided to hire Mark Penn for some reason, and Cameron hired some hack who is ripping off Obama, but without the candidate to make that strategy work.

We'd have a more effective government with the Official Monster Raving Looney Party in power, at least they admit it

To be fair, there were a few more MPS than that at first, but yeah, pretty disgraceful.

Just updated the OP with some more info.

Also:

As suspected, looks like that group who greeted Brown was young Labour and Labour student members:lol .

I'm surprised by the number of pro-LD people here. They're so "we'll do a bit of this, a bit of that" but are so non-committal to any major change. A LD government would get nothing done. Which also leads me to say that a hung parliament would be disastrous. Again, progress would be agonizingly slow.

They've dropped the ball today on the debill front. they talked a good game about it before hand but only one of the fuckers turned up for the debate. Wankers. Twitter is not happy with them :lol

Why on earth are people still wanting to vote for Labour?

Want more ridiculous wars, a mismanaged economy (Labour are truly the party of taxation and spending), the erosion of civil liberties and an aimless european (and world) policy.

Not saying you should be voting Tory (they're the same party after all), why not the Lib Dems? Never been a better time for it.

You guys are part of the problem. Terrible government for 12 years and you want to keep them running the show?

If we really want some change (I hate to use that word), use your vote for the Liberal Democrats!

Where's Charlie Brooker with ElectionWipe?

There's some kind of TV rule which say you're not allowed to air a show critical/glorifying a particular party during the election period.

It sounds like bullshit, but I'm damn sure I've heard it before.

You can be critical/glorify but you have to do it equally. Ianucci's Election Night Armistice in 1997 cracked me up.

Edit: Couldn't find too many clips but here's one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gBKjCaWvGo

On that note:

I've heard that Zeppotron have a studio booked at TVC on May 6th. This can only be a good thing.

What are they using the studio for?

'Election Night Special', it says here.

(I'm guessing it'll be something along the lines of Armando Iannucci's Election Night Armistice, but with more Charlie Brooker)

And some googling:

The Alternative Election Night will be a four hour live special presented by and featuring much of Channel 4’s key talent. The aim of the show is to be funny, revealing and intelligent with the viewer taking away real insight and analysis as well as being thoroughly entertained.

Was gonna say the same thing. Off course conservative politics can change things, but the words "change" and "conservative" in the same sentence is still a funny sight.

I think it is worth adding a link to http://voteforpolicies.org.uk in the first post. A lot of people will know what they feel strongly about but not be aware of which parties are in line with their concerns.

Why are the Green Party completely missing from the first post?

iapetus said:
Single-issue parties tend to do well on voteforpolicies type sites, as outside their issue they tend to go for populist policies that they couldn't actually deliver on or that make no real sense.

It is still unfair to suggest that the Greens are going for populist policies. A lot of their policies are anything but populist. Sure, some of them may be nearly impossible to implement, but they are often closer to be real solutions to problems than the current approach advocated by the 2 main parties. Lab and Con want power (and appeal to the populist) rather than providing viable or debatable solutions to serious problems.

I've lost count of the number of illogical, nonsensical policies Labour and the Tories have proposed over the last year alone. Most of them have no chance at all of delivering the outcome they claim and many are nothing more than knee-jerk responses to tabloid outrage.

If anything, Labour and Tories have half-baked, middle-ground policies that try to please everyone and avoid "knock out" criticism or debate. That is just as likely a reason for why they don't do so well on these policy-voting websites...because they lack a true ideology behind them or any real attempt to do something bold and clear to tackle an issue. Labour can't be progressive on tax, radical on the environment, or bold on the economy; neither can the Tories; because they might actually be in power and they are trying to juggle the interests of rich contributors, the city, agri-business, multi-nationals, the jobs underpinned by the status quo, etc. They are compromisers because they think that to be this way is the only way to secure power and pragmatically govern. But that isn't what the majority of people want, whether "people" are right or wrong.

Personally, I'd like to see the Lib Dems win. I don't think another cabal of posh boys is going to really make the UK any better. The two main parties have had over 25 years of attempts. The Lib Dems have, in my opinion, a robust base of policies and a more concrete vision of what they want to do. They also have a large number of experienced people (politically and from the world of business) in high positions within the party. I can't see the harm of giving them 5 years. Vince Cable is more trustworthy with the economy (and with an enticing track-record) than someone like George Osborne! Same goes for their representatives on the international stage.

Ah well. I suspect it will be the Tories again! Hopefully they don't cock it up too badly this time.

DEbill just passed it's second reading without a nay. Fuck them all.

The DE Bill scares the hell out of me... but being in the UK i guess we're used to the removal of basic rights so hey :/

If the DE bill goes through, we'll be heading down the same shit that Australia and China are heading.

Sad thing is, barely anyone knows what it is and what it represents, if they did, they wouldn't be so apathetic about it. But atleast people are fighting against it, which is something i guess.
