Umbrella recommendations?

I'm sick and tired of these piece of shit 99 cent store umbrellas which can't withstand any wind whatsoever, and aren't nearly large enough to cover both me and my messenger bag.

So... I'm going to finally plunk down a decent amount on a good umbrella which will last for years. (hopefully) But, given that umbrellas are a dime a dozen... what're some "top of the line" umbrella brands?

What the hell. SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE FUCK?

Umbrella recomendations?!

My umbrella just broke and it's soaking in New York. Damnit, fucking bloody hell. Go to Macy's and buy a big Totes, maybe?

guys use umbrellas?

I get some odd looks, but fuck it, I'm dry bitches.
I had a 500 yen generic umbrella from Japan, but the winds of Rochester tore it a new one.

What's the difference between a "metro" umbrella, and a "golf" umbrella?

Golf is usually bigger, where as Metro is a bit more of a "personal" umbrella...or so I'm assuming.

Fuck this weather. I work in construction and we're basically two holes in the ground right now. I have to be outside all day with all this rain.

Do like me and just get a big yellow raincoat. Fuck umbrellas.

Yeah, Metros are smaller and are "extendable" in comparasion to bigger, robust Golfs.

I have a Nautica umbrella that I love which was given to me by my mother. The reason I love it is because you press one button to open it and you press the same button to close it.

I use a Nike golf umbrella. It can stand any winds that New York can throw at it, after its tour of duty at Kent State.

I saw similar umbrellas at Banana Republic and Eddie Bauer. No issues with button-closing?
None but I should make it clear that it only collapses the umbrella, you still have to manually push the two ends together to completely close it.

My London Fog umbrella (bought six years ago when i worked at JC Penny, has worked well though it does invert in a quick wind. It's got a few minor holes in it but it works excellently. But as soon as it officially dies, i'm buying this:

i've wanted one of these since shortly after i got my London Fog umbrella and saw one for the first time. Don't know how well it holds up to wind though. i don't think it's available directly from Amazon (still), but it may be in one of the catalogs on their site. Search for "sky umbrella".

FWIW, 20/20 or one of those news shows did an experiment on the best umbrellas for use in heavy winds and found a lot of the kids umbrellas (the cheesy ones with licensed characters) stood up the best, even againt those made for adults and some made to be sturdier. Seems to follow they would hold up better given the smaller size, but whatever.

Okay, that's awesome. I want one too.

As for golf versus metro, get a golf. When the rain dies down you can fold it up and use it like a walking stick, which always looks badarse.
