Uncharted 3 - E3 2011 Gameplay and Trailer

Lighting has improved ^

But I do think Sully is looking a little . . . sparse, some how.

Yes, I expect thorough polish by November.

They've definitely increased the light intensity in that scene all around, especially that spotlight that shines down on the street.

One interesting thing I noticed in the gameplay footage: It seems like you can now choose whether to snap enemies' neck, or to just put them in the chokehold until they faint. In UC2 you could do the chokehold only in the museum chapter, and you could't choose, but in the new gameplay footage he does one and then the other in the course of the same scene. What makes me think this is not a contextual action but rather a choise is that it would make no sense for the game to select a chokehold for you in terms of speed and efficiency. It has to be an option left for those who don't want to stealth kill.

Now if they can get the sliding down pipes/ladders animation as good as (or better than) LA Noire, they'll be back on top. Rockstar/Bondi nailed that particular one...
Eh, other than the pipe thing, player controlled character animation in LA noire, or any Rockstar game really, is not even close to this. They all have typical running loop, walking loop etc. where every next loop looks 100% identical as the last.

From the GI preview (about the smokebomb):

This handy one-time tool allowed my character to throw a ninja-style smoke bomb at the ground, causing him to appear in a puff of smoke at another location on the map. While I discovered this by accident, I can imagine it would be very useful in situations where you’re cornered or facing impossible odds. It’s the only perk of this sort that I saw during my round, but it’s surely not the only one available.

So, it just randomly teleports you somewhere else?

I watched the gameplay video last night and it was pretty underwhelming. In fact, Drake's run animation looked pretty wonky. Final product will rock but that really didn't do much for me.

If I had to guess, it probably teleports you to a spawn point and uses the same algorithm for making sure you don't spawn too close to an enemy. Basically, "respawn without dying." I can see how that would be useful.

OMGOMGOGMOGMG Water combat in Multiplayer!!! fuk yeah they just announced it on GT All access
This was already shown, I believe. It's in one of the trailers...not sure if it was in the multiplayer reveal, but I distinctly remember a ship and tides of water rushing towards one side.

Sully does look a little bit weird in the trailer. The stache needs to be more thick, yo.

In line waiting to play...

it's amazing how the trailer really made it seem like this game will top uncharted 2. i was pretty concerned ever since it was announced that it couldn't possibly be as good as the second game. the plane sequence is going to be incredible.

Why? You'll be playing in like 3 weeks anyway, and with people that actually know how to play, not random journalists that don't know anything.

That's why! I want to destroy these silly journalists. :D

So fucking true! Score was something like 20 to 7 to 5 (my team won, I did most of the kills) and we still had over 10 minutes in the clock. Game looked great though, even saw a new move while waiting in line. A guy grabbed a shield, switched to his main weapon and used the shield as a backpack, moved around the map with shield backpack, rolled on the ground, and when he came out of the roll he was crouch walking with the shield in front. Can't wait til the beta goes live!

That's awesome! Always hated how restricted your movement is when using shields in U2.

If amazon does a $20 gift credit for this game I will probably get it at launch, if not I will wait for the goty edition with all the DLC packed in.

Went back for round 2 and got a chance to play that. I love the addition of more objectives into co-op. Adding gold rush elements into story mode co-op is a fantastic idea. One small new addition I noticed was the pickup timer for a fallen team mate now pauses during cutscenes instead of ignoring them and continuing the countdown like Uncharted 2 does.

I'm not sure if it's just because the game is still in development, but the loading screens seem to be gone as well. The new lobby menu is the new loading screen (I think it might have also been a result screen too). When the countdown timer ends, a loading bar appears with a rising percentage and then you're dumped right in. It was pretty slick and much better than the old screens. Also noticed that they added loadout slots (4 iirc).

Thank god, her demon eyes are gone!

Yeah, the eyes were the biggest graphical offender to me if the game had any to be labeled, and it looks like that was addressed. :)

Love the people arguing over GOTY here though, U3 will win a lot, BF3 "may" (see later) win some, Skyrim potentially as well. But you all forgot that one game where media hubs are compelled to throw GOTY awards at for no reason what so ever and not deserved for in the least, CoD.

Damn, just thinking about U3, BF3, Skyrim, and even TM got me all hot and bothered.

Haha awesome, you can melee people with the Idol in Co-op and I'm assuming Plunder.
Nice, now you can be mobile with the shield and now you won't be so helpless with the Idol, I like what I'm hearing.

GAME LOOKS PHENOMENAL!!!

wtf? lighting, motion blur, animation, high-poly tires on that plane... this must be some in-engine CG movie or something, looks too good to be 'real' realtime, but then again it's ND we're talking about... mmm, can't wait.

It looks like the scale has been improved as well (not that it was paltry before). It still blows my mind to think that they have already made massive visual improvements and are still managing to deliver splitscreen and 3D at the same time. There must be witchcraft involved.

The suited man with the facial scars, that isn't supposed to be Flynn is it?

No, but I wouldn't be surprised if they used the same actor like with Graham McTavish (played both Lazaravich and Cutter).

Still waiting for Eddy Raja to make a triumphant return. Keep the faith, yo.

Most impressive thing about it is that the tires expand after they leave the tarmac.
