Uncharted 3 - E3 2011 Gameplay and Trailer

Since Sony have confirmed that they're working on the PS4, they'd be wise to their best studio work on something for launch assuming a 2013~2014 release. I know Uncharted 4 on the PS4 would see me snap up the console, as opposed to waiting until the library is more expansive.

^Maybe a PS3/4 version? With TRANSFARRING.

Although i will eat up U3 like a madman there is just one hope. That they give Elena Fisher more "screen time" then Chloe. Chloe is fine and dandy but for me as a supporting character Elena has much more charm. And I don't doubt to be blown away by the single player adventure as U and U2 did that mighty fine.

And to comment on the GoW screens. Yes they are absolute king and it hurts not see anything about 4. Ah well still got the PSP brethren that I did not play, shamed to say. I platinumized all 3 (after i haved played the originals like crazy on PS2) on PS3 but did not play the "little" ones .. I will go to hell for it and get my ass kicked by Hades.

Did Chloe really have more screen time than Elena? I thought that they had the same amount of screen time.

I wasn't really blown away by this demo. I've platinumed both part 1 and 2 and am a huge fan, but this just wasn't on the level as last year's E3. The water stuff looked good but I wasn't really on the edge of my seat the whole time like 'holy shit! yesss!' the way I was last year. There was too much time spent on stealth stuff and indoor environments, people want to see beautiful large scale stuff at E3, at least I do.

In the trailer they showed after there was a glimpse of Nate on a plane, getting knocked back, (over the desert somewhere) and then holding on to some cargo in the back as it's about to fall off. THAT would've been fucking awesome as an E3 demo but this ship thing was kind of dull for most of the demonstration imo. It was nice seeing Chloe and Elena though.

I loved the demo during the conference. At first I thought it was a bit dull but once they showed that fap worthy water tech I was hooked. Love me some claustrophobic platforming with the fear of drowning, tense. Definitely produced a different emotion than Uncharted 2's E3 demo though, this was less balls to the wall action so I can see why some didn't enjoy it as much. Oh and the trailer was brilliant, that line from Elena made me laugh about the rug sellers. God I love Uncharted.

Think the multiplayer gameplay looks poor though.

Tbh I don't really know, did not really compare :) I should have said; "just more Elena". Though I am not saying I hate Chloe. Honestly I really like all characters in the game. But there is something about Elena what makes the games more special for me, maybe her wit or her charm dunno.. I like the games so much I got platinum on both not for the trophies but just to get everything out of the games there was to get.

I only go for platinum for the games i really, really like. Uncharted, GoW, Infamous etc. Although finding the damn shards in the latter was a chore and I did it just because it was the last and only thing to do on the list to get the plat otherwise it would get a big "no way".

I like Chloe a lot; I've been a fan of Claudia Black and her syrupy voice since Farscape and Pitch Black, and she's amazing as the femme fatale. But, man, I'd throw that bitch under a bus if it meant Elena got more screentime. I think she's my favourite female video game character ever. That scene in Uncharted 2 where Nate's telling her his plan for getting to the train and Elena impatiently finishes it for him and basically says "come on, let's go already" sealed the deal. She's got none of the over-the-top toughness that video game girls are apparently supposed to have, she's no damsel in distress, no ridiculous cleavage or gratuitous ass-shots, she's just a really great, well-conceived character.

Granted, I didn't play the retail version of Uncharted 2's multiplayer a lot, but the beta period during which I played was fantastic. While some of the U3 perk shit that was discussed earlier sounds stupid, these clips look like great fun to me and seem to build upon the stuff that U2 created. No other 3rd person shooter this gen can touch Uncharted's multiplayer, and this is mainly due to the verticality that other games refuse to touch to a higher degree. Can't wait for this damn game.

I thought the demo was pretty good. Not nearly as jaw dropping as last years but the water was pretty neat graphically. I say that because we pretty much know how its going to play.

The trailer afterward though got me excited. Some of that stuff looked bat shit insane.

Oh, and Chloe is the best. Bad girls are always better. Plus, Claudia Black has a smoking voice.

Screens look amazing, finally to see them without compression artifacts from the trailer.

Love the improvements in lighting, character detail and everything.

Best of all, female characters, Chloe in particular, look so much better (in terms of rendering). When it comes to CG humans, there's an unspoken rule that It's the hardest thing to appealingly render a young, light skinned, female. On the other side of the difficulty spectrum would be dark skinned old guy. Before someone jumps on me, the light skinned part of the equation comes from the more noticeable subsurface scatter on the lighter skin, and that's something that's difficult to simulate well.

JaseC said:
Texture detail seems to be roughly the same as U2:AT (if not a tad better), but the lighting is much improved. No longer is the flashlight the only light source capable of casting dynamic shadows!
No, the real lighting improvements here are not from that. Even in UC1 everything in the environment (trees, etc) was casting a dynamic shadow that was received by characters and everything else.

How did we ever deserve three of these games in one generation? (T_T) I hope there'll be a fourth one before PS3 bows out; fuck PS4.

With the PS4 on the horizon, as much as I love Uncharted, which is easily the best series of this gen, I'm going to disagree. They confirmed the PS4 was in the works a couple months back, which means target dev kits have probably been at their studios for 6 months plus now. I really really hope ND and SSM are dabbling in the PS4 now.

I know ND likes to shift their focus each gen, but I really want them to at least give us a 4th installment on this series. It's the best done series this gen, and I don't care what people say, it has this gens "star" Nathan Drake, as the best character to appear this gen. And if Sony was smart, at all, they'd have them working on it soon as this is out the door fully blown so it can be there for Day 1 on the PS4 launch, just like having something from SSM. Since hardware specs may not be the focus this gen like in the past, Sony's going to have to rely on their best in the industry, most talented first-party developers to set the momentum.

We may finally have a game here in U3 to challenge MGS2's boat act, lol.

Thank jeebus they fixed Chloe's eyes.

Claudia Black's voice... teh sexy.

God of War 3 Assets

Oh yes, seeing all the GOW3 awesome is like getting a warm hug. SO GOOD.

I hope this kind of stuff really pushes the Naughty Dog team to dig deep and out-perform the Santa Monica team

I too, like others here, have failed to have my "oh shit" moment with Uncharted 3 this E3. I've come close, but not like Uncharted 2.

When I first saw the screenshots and video footage for from the Nepal level, I FREAKING LOST IT. I REALLY REALLY love that level. I play it over and over again all the time. That environment blows me away all the time. *SWOONS*. Or the The Village map from the multiplayer level - my absolute favorite.

This time around, I've seen a tiny sliver of an environment that MIGHT give me the same feeling - that middle eastern town. The shot of Drake running down the alley way in the trailer and the shot of him looking over the tops of the building from that roof seem to reflect the Nepal environments in Uncharted 2. BUT, they haven't shown anything else from that level. So I'm kind of stuck wondering.

Also, the character models are looking a little half-baked, both in-game and in cutscenes. As some have pointed out, Sully isn't looking nearly as good as he did in the announce trailer. In fact, none of the footage from the most recent trailer has the polish found in that announce trailer, where Drake and Sully looked like pre-rendered CG models almost but we were told they used the in-game engine to produce that.

So yeah, I don't want Naughty Dog resting on their laurels. Perhaps they didn't feel the need to make a potent showing at E3 this year and are deliberating holding off until closer to launch. That's my hope anyway. I really want to see Naughty Dog do well because they do amazing work. And I love seeing talented people pushing the bar unthinkably high and exceeding expectations. Folks like the DICE team are blowing people away this year (albeit, with PC hardware), making it hard for Uncharted 3 to really impress.

I want Naughty Dog challenged so that they'll remain the graphics champs. But their E3 showing isn't going to cut it.

I'm sure the graphics are still being touched up as we speak.

Remember the U2 e3 and release date comparison? They tightened up the graphics from level 2 in e3 to level 3 by release.

I don't remember much of a difference. Multiplayer maps from the beta received an upgrade though.

OMG,

Imagine if an Uncharted game had lighting, explosions and destruction like this.

LAWD IN HEAVEN. Yeah, I can't wait til PS4

LAN Support! Thanks hackers! :P

http://www.vg247.com/2011/06/08/uncharted-3-to-have-lan-support-for-multiplayer/

According to a post over on Kotaku, Naughty Dog said it had to keep working on the multiplayer for Uncharted 3 while the service was down, so built in LAN support, which is also what players will be using when they get in on the multiplayer deal at Subway a full month before the core game launches.

LAN support will still be included when the game is released on November 1.

Did Elena get married? She's wearing a ring in that shot with Sully.

EDIT: Boo it was mentioned on the first page.

That would be interesting. It's pretty rare to have a married protagonist.

I think ND will probably drop Uncharted this gen and work on a new IP, they have done the same with the last 2 PS.

They had reasons for developing new games previously. They had Crash stripped from them, so that was no longer an option. With Jak they saw its popularity decrease over the span of the PS2's life. Now with Uncharted it's managed to gain popularity to the point that it's one of the most successful new IP's this generation. That's not to say that they won't start a new IP for next gen, but they have a real reason to stick with Uncharted unlike with previous games.

Sony won't drop Uncharted anytime soon.
It the face of the PS3 this generation, and one of their most successful franchises in a long long time.

I think ND might be stuck developing Uncharted forever, I really can't imagine a new IP from them that is as good as it

I can see an Uncharted 4 for the PS4 just to get PS3 owners to jump ship, then maybe a new IP to test the waters and if it fails then more Uncharted.

Chloe says wow!
*scary Chloe*

This is the reason U3 makes U2 like crap. Just the little tweaks and fixes like this.

Of course, I'm just referring to characters, the environments in all 3 games are still teh best

I would like to see ND do a character similar to riddick, and his universe (more like pitch black than butcher bay/chronicles). 3rd person of course.

they should really end Uncharted with Drake and Elena marrying , then thats it

Nope. This isn't Jak or Crash. I will kill somebody. I have to have Uncharted PS4 by Naughty Dog.

I don't want ND to drop Uncharted series anytime soon. Love that shit for real.
However it is understandable if they want to move on and work on something fresh. They can also go the Insomniac route and make the team bigger, then work on different projects at the same time.

No they need to make a game where you're drake and you have to like feed your baby and go to the babies pre-school and talk to his teachers and arrange babysitters while you go out for lunch. that shit would be WILD.

sure they can, their experience with large open world area is wasted on linear setpieces Uncharted series. I'd like to see them try open world game again (I don't mean GTA, I mean something like Jak series) ideally, I want them to make smaller new IP on PSVita and if it's successful, bring that series to PS4.

Will the next stop for graphics really be increasing fidelity? Or will it be the art direction?

I can't really imagine a game being photorealistic. Do we want photorealistic games?
