Uncharted 3 - E3 2011 Gameplay and Trailer

Most impressive thing about it is that the tires expand after they leave the tarmac.

true :O

God knows how many hours of work for such subtleties almost no one will notice let alone appreciate, the guys @ ND are becoming obsessive with their attention to detail when it comes to the single-player campaign... honestly I can't see how or where they find the motivation to further push the envelope when Uncharted 2 was already the best looking game of the generation, I mean, it didn't need better graphics... bravo ND, I'll buy two copies of your game to honor your hard work and passion for core games / gamers.

(I understand multiplayer is a whole different story and money talks, but singleplayer... just wow).

No, but I wouldn't be surprised if they used the same actor like with Graham McTavish (played both Lazaravich and Cutter).

I thought that new Flynn-look-alike IS Cutter, but they changed model on him?

Edit: My bad. Just rewatched the trailer. I am wrong.

It is not the guy voicing Flynn though. :P

You sure? I mean, how can you tell?

If it turns out to be the same dude, you owe me a Coke.

im gonna get a load of hate for this but it doesn't look as good as u2.
The controls on the ship at the start seemed slightly wonky. And that's the only issue I have with Uncharted series overall and I don't think it's being addressed this time around either. I think it looks about as good as Uncharted 2, if not, better. The lighting (especially from bright lights) was the best I've seen. The storm on the first level shown was mindblowing.

Can't wait to have this in my house, and play it in 3D that people said is incredible since it was actually built with in mind during development.

Controls in Uncharted 2 was smooth as butter, being the best third-person MP shooter wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

Wowee

Also looks like they did change Victor's face, I liked his look in the reveal more

Aww poop, that sucks that you pointed that out. Well, it'll probably look exactly like this in November so we should probably make similar statements of this nature.

im not being sarcastic but its true

Texture detail seems to be roughly the same as U2:AT (if not a tad better), but the lighting is much improved. No longer is the flashlight the only light source capable of casting dynamic shadows!

I played multiplayer demo at E3 and wasn't impressed.

On a side note, it took me an hour's wait in line to play and as me and 3 other guys were about to play, Respawn dev guys cut in and stole our seats forcing another 15 minute wait.

New Graphic King : Uncharted 3 2011-

I'm actually very much looking forward to the inevitable tech comparison between Gears 3 and Uncharted 3. Lens of Truth will probably slap together something haphazardly soon after the release of the latter, but Leadbetter will go much more in-depth at later date. 2011 is the first time we've had a game from each series release more or less alongside one another and as such their technological DNA worthy of comparison.

There was always the sun..

I don't expect texture detail to improve but the quality of lighting and shadow is damn impressive.

Based on their E3 showings, both look pretty damn similar, with poly-starved environments and some good motion blur. I believe it'll be more of a battle between art styles than between tech this time around.

This as near to the end of the uncanny valley as we've got. The main villain is still quite uncanny, probably cause she looks so much like Helen Mirren it's ridiculous.

And the water, holy god the water looks ridiculously good.

The sun in both U:DF and U2:AT isn't a dynamic light source in the same way the flashlight is.

Most likely, but the analysis will be interesting nonetheless.

Battlefield 3...

Also Chloe looks all kinds of sexy.

BC 2 doesn't look especially good on console, BF 3 will look better but that's clearly a game to buy on PC.

As for Gears 3, it doesn't even look better than U2 ...

if we leave the art aside (matter of preference) technically Gears 3 is an achievement on par with U2, pushing the 360 to its very limits and beyond, I wonder what Epic could do on the PS3 if they developed a game from the ground using 100% of the Cell, same for ND and the strengths of the 360 (unified memory, powerful GPU + dedicated edram...), we've reached a point where it's up to the devs to squeeze that last drop of performance out of the hardware, I believe we're not going to see much better looking games than these on the PS360... as long as they don't 'hack' the hardware as Team Ico did with the PS2 & Shadow of the Colossus that is.

I dunno, Gears 3 seems like a logical progression - I mean finally getting some next gen lighting helps dramatically, but Gears is nowhere near when it comes to a variety of things like animation, set pieces, water, fire etc. I mean both E3 demos were set in the ocean, yet you wouldn't even realise it with Gears

It does cast dynamic shadows though (at least in U2).

But the shadows resulting from the sun as a light "source" in the earlier Uncharted games don't change as they should when the objects are moved from their position relative to the sun. Compare this to the the Uncharted 3 gameplay clip, for example, at the part with Drake hiding around the corner waiting for a merc where you can clearly see the ceiling light is dynamically distorting the shadows of both the objects littering the hallway and the patrolling merc based on their positions relative to said light source. The only instances in which this occurs in Uncharted and Uncharted 2 is when you're running around with the flashlight (and the torch when you're exploring the underground tomb in Uncharted 2).

New Chloe > Elena. All who disagree are delusional. Also dat accent/dat voice. Morrigan gave me a boner in Dragon Age, yeah I'm not ashamed (though I should be) to admit that.

Though to be fair I never liked Elena. She was tolerable in the first game but after that I got sick of her. I also disliked Karen Allen in Raiders and Indy 4 so in conclusion....

....adventure hero waifus suck, it's all about the dangerous flame.

How did we ever deserve three of these games in one generation? (T_T) I hope there'll be a fourth one before PS3 bows out; fuck PS4.

Since Sony have confirmed that they're working on the PS4, they'd be wise to their best studio work on something for launch assuming a 2013~2014 release. I know Uncharted 4 on the PS4 would see me snap up the console, as opposed to waiting until the library is more expansive.
