Underrated Game Soundtracks...

Wave Race: Blue Storm has a kickass guitar riff at the title screen. Don't know much about the rest of the soundtrack becaues I hardly played the game...

Screw that. The original one is where it's at!

Some Duo games have excellent music: Gate/Lord of Thunder, Tengai Makyo 2, and of course the Ys games. Other games whose music I really liked, that I haven't heard talked about much:

Astal (old Saturn sidescroller)
Phantasy Star 4 (one of the most diverse RPG soundtracks ever)
Ecco The Dolphin (Genesis)
Gradius III (SNES)
Wild Arms (PSX)
Sword of Vermillion (Genesis)
Life Force (NES)
and of course, Soulblazer (SNES)

Outcast you Japanophile fools!

Also:

Mechwarrior 2
Crusader: No Remorse
PoP:Sands of Time
The Longest Journey

Edit:

Definitely Plok. I loved the theme when he'd get the hunter power-up, plus the title theme was pretty catchy too.

That'll be the Follin brothers, and mainly Tim Follin, he made countless soundtracks of C64 games, if you want more info, go here :)

If you've heard the amazing soundtracks to "Bionic Commando", "Ghouls And Ghosts", and "Black Lamp" on the Commodore 64, that was Tim Follin. If you've spooged over the music to classic titles like "Rock And Roll Racing" and "Plok" on the Super Nintendo, then that was the Follins too. And even coming right up to the present day, the amazing music to "Ecco The Dolphin" on the Dreamcast was done by Tim Follin. It's Tim Follin who's perhaps best known (and he's still in the industry, currently working on "Starsky And Hutch" for Empire and "Pillage" for Warthog/Zed Two), but many people forget that a number of Tim's later soundtracks were composed with Geoff (who's now a primary school teacher), and Geoff has a number of genius soundtracks he can take sole credit for. Oh, and the third brother, Mike Follin, nowadays training to be a vicar, was the coder of many of the early Follin-soundtracked games, including the all-time-classic "Sentinel".

I approve of this post. Tim Follin is just a fucking amazing musician, completely underrated. You forgot to mention his awesome Silver Surfer theme.

How about this? F-Zero GX beats out F-Zero X, but the F-Zero X Guitar Arrange beats everything else. That sound good?
Ok, I'll give you that Guitar Arrange is sick. My good friend who plays guitar (extremely well) and loves F-Zero says Guitar Arrange is sloppy garbage though. Whatever, I like it.

It's a little sloppy at times, but nowhere near garbage. I can only think of a handful of guitarists alive who could play some of that music accurately and completely clean. It sounds like your friend is a bit of an elitist.. as an unfortunate number of guitarists are. For the record, I've played for 11 years and I'll freely admit that I can't even come close to being able to play as well as the guys on the Guitar Arrange album. If your friend can, I'd love to hear a recording of it!

Oh yea, he definitely is an elitest I'll give you that. :lol

The hardest stuff I've known him to play is Dream Theater. I know they're insane. That's about the extent of my guitar knowledge.
