United Airlines violently drags a doctor off a plane so employee could take his seat

Why do you fly United?

Who cares? That's his business. Does not justify what the police and United did to him.

This could actually get the CEO canned. All stockholders care about is how it's performing.

Well that's the problem with trying to assign more value to a doctor flying home to see his patients. Someone is going to look into it, if it's not relevant than it's not relevant in the 1st place.

The other glaring fuck-up on United's part is that this would take place after boarding. Passengers get bumped all the time due to overbooking, but this shit should happen in the terminal prior to boarding. The idea that anyone involved would think it's OK to send security onto a plane to forcibly remove someone to make room for airline employees shows a high order of incompetence, without even getting into the bloody, ridiculous particulars of what actually took place.

Why hasn't anyone posted the stories on how United airlines were bailed out by taxpayers and refused to pay their workers pension entitlements?

You would think the United Airlines CEO would be more kinder with doctors having had heart transplant surgery last year.

I don't think that had anything to do with it. We love to look into irrelevant past events of a innocent person in this country. It's called clickbait.

Edit: nm you said the same thing I said. Consider me in agreement then!

This and I read that the United Employees showed up to try to get on the flight after paying customers had boarded and had their seats. That's their own fault for being late. Drive from Chicago to Louisville or catch a bus if they need to.

Damn, already pulling out the "He was no angel" defense. Next someone will say homeboy was probably smoking kush in one of his old Facebook photos.

I just really hope this incident blows over so we as a collective consumer base stop giving airlines a pass. Everything about the airport and flying experience in America is just acceptable to absolutely terrible

Sure, if he turned out to be a really amazing surgeon and had a lifesaving operation scheduled it would have made the story more juicy.

It's not really relevant to his treatment though. Everyone has a good reason for flying or they wouldn't put up with the airlines BS.

Domestic flights have razor thin profits, hence the overbooking. But if you let people on the plane already before realizing you need the room. You gotta take the loss United and find other means to make your other flight happen.

I doubt they're as thin as they used to be. US airlines have been reporting record profits.

Well, it's clickbait and it's an attempt at deflection/character assassination. People have been told off for the receipts.gif posts on GAF, even WITHIN GAF post history (occasionally some have gone to reddit/twitter/social media to drudge in unrelated comments from posters after attempting to link up public usernames). Generally speaking, stick to the topic at hand, and if you're going back 2~3~4 years, take note sometimes people do learn/change their mind.

It's completely unrelated and irrelevant to this case, but even in instances where you can say comments from the person are related to the topic, it's often the weakest form of debate. Debate with their feelings and thoughts current day, not taking swings at ghosts from 8 years ago because you've trudged through post history or livejournal to find that one stupid comment someone may have made.

As I said above, sometimes you can question something someone has said in the past if it is indeed related to what you're discussing, here, it's absolutely ridiculous to bring in personal history completely unrelated to flying on an airline. Even some of the most hated public figures on GAF if in this scenario would still deserve not to be smacked off an armrest and dragged off a flight. It doesn't really matter who you are, there's an onus on the airline and security for your safety.

Damn, looks like that 500M loss was being conservative:

Speculators will be playing the stock markets right now, sell sell sell when PR is bad for a few days/week, buy buy buy when the "24 hour news cycle" lessens. The debate is whether the "24 hour news cycle", which won't literally be 24 hours here, but much longer, will be something the CEO can ride out. Probably not given how much this has exploded.

The mental gymnastics is staggering.

Next time some poor girl is raped, let's dig into her past and victim blame her in an effort to absolve the abuser from any wrongdoing.

Doesn't that sound completely and utterly insane? That is exactly what is happening here. Why is it okay for "journalists" to do it in this case? It is never okay. It's disgusting and should be condemned in the strongest of terms.

Fuck that jazz. Every time.

This isn't really true.

Coordinated national and international air travel is kinda a major miracle, especially given how underfunded the regulatory and federal aspects are. And the experience of airports and flying is still weirdly quaint and genteel as a hangover from its once-exclusive nature.

There are some extremely shoddy airline practices — overbooking being one of the worst offenders, not to mention the whole industry is a cartel in the U.S. — but on the whole it's kinda amazing that it all works as well as it does.

These hit pieces and character assassination articles makes it out to be that is infact United that is commissioning these "news sites" to find dirt on him in an effort to salvage their reputation. Got to quickly direct attention elsewhere instead from their sinking rep and their tanking stock. The most hilarious part is that almost everyone is seeing through their bullshit.

And just think, had they just offered $1600 cash somebody likely would have taken it. But no, let's call the cops because an old man telling you he is a doctor doesn't want to give up his seat. Airheads. Why aren't people with common sense ever in charge of these decisions? Hope it's worth the multi-million loss.

People with common sense don't want these shitty jobs.

Again, just pick someone else. I daresay most people wouldn't be terribly obstinant if told that they have to be removed but they'll also get $800 for the trouble. Most people want to get to their destination and won't willingly volunteer themselves, but most people would also just grumble and take $800 and leave compliantly.

Unless they stopped offering any money when they got to forcing some people to leave.

If you can be obsinate and not be removed, then you don't have to be removed. And in this case, everyone will be obstinate until they pick someone who is too well mannered to refuse. How is that a fair alternative? Mandatory removal that isn't mandatory isn't mandatory, it's voluntary, and the voluntary option was already declined by every soul on the flight. Everyone was offered the $800. No one accepted. At that point, repicking a random selection if the first random selection declines is a nonstarter, because you're just doing what you already did in slow motion.

Not defending united here, but re-selecting is a dumb solution in this case, because it doesn't seem to solve much of antyhing. Should've upped the cash offer til someone bit, like others have said.

its so insane. There is no perfect victim ever, and if they might be(like small children) then you will have people even questioning if the events even really occurred its the craziest part of the human psyche that I just dont understand.

Just got up to speed on this whole thing.

Fucking modern capitalism, man. You might get the service you expect to pay for, or you might get a beating because the corporation deems it within their own best interest.

Fucking tank these shit ass companies.

I actually don't mind the posts, if it's already out there and it's something people are using to excuse the shit away.

But it's amusing how both the people that did it in here, said "um guys" basically. Like they aren't even trying to come across as impartial and just relaying information.
