Someone should cover their desk in angry BBB reports on United and talk about their troubled past.

If any airline asked me to vacate my seat (which they have every right to do) then I would leave the plane and take my voucher for the next flight and move on with my day. Fighting with the airline staff, or even worse fighting with security guards is never going to help the situation.
Some people have self-respect.

Coffee burned her flesh to the bone? Did they flavor it with acid instead of cream? That coffee would need to be beyond hot. Holy shit.

Of course large corporations gonna try damage control though. Not surprising, although the story would blow over much more quickly if they showed genuine remorse, and provided a real apology, no matter who they feel was in the wrong.

If memory serves the holding temp of the coffee was above boiling and they had several complaints about it being to damn hot. The woman only wanted her medical costs covered which included skin grafts because the damage was so bad.

Seriously, watch the film.

I would too if they offered me enough money.

This guy disagreed.

Probably the airline should've spent some time looking for people like us instead of focusing on him. Also offering more money.

This isn't an issue of self respect, it's an issue of abiding by the terms and conditions upon purchasing your airline ticket. The airline reserves the right to ask you to give up your seat at any time.

Should that rule be changed? Sure, but as it stands currently those are the rules set forth by the airlines.

This is why I balked so hard at the people continually mentioning the fact he is a doctor. You don't get to use his profession as a way to amplify the inappropriateness of the situation and then complain when his past is used to attempt to justify it. I know they aren't exactly the same, but the motive is.

For long time it was only more personal detail about him we knew so people used it as way to identify him. I still don't remember his name because it hasn't been anywhere really, but I remember that he is doctor.

Once again, there are pages of posts explaining this. United is at fault here.

Would it be less severe if he wasnt a doctor? Cant really see why it matters that he was a doctor regarding how the situation went down. Unless he had to get somewhere, being a life threatining situation.

There's more to life than contract law.

Something else to remember.

WASHINGTON ― The U.S.-based air carrier United Airlines is no angel. The 91-year-old airline, which on Sunday called police to violently remove a passenger who refused to give up his paid seat to a United employee, has a troubled recent history of public relations disasters and serious legal problems.

Most prominently, United Airlines dabbled in corporate bribery in U.S. politics from 2011 to 2014. During those years, the airline provided special money-losing flights from Newark, New Jersey, to Columbia, South Carolina, to curry favor with David Samson, then chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

This isn't really true.

Coordinated national and international air travel is kinda a major miracle, especially given how underfunded the regulatory and federal aspects are. And the experience of airports and flying is still weirdly quaint and genteel as a hangover from its once-exclusive nature.

There are some extremely shoddy airline practices — overbooking being one of the worst offenders, not to mention the whole industry is a cartel in the U.S. — but on the whole it's kinda amazing that it all works as well as it does.

ok ok you're right. It is rather amazing that it works at all.

I think I'm having a lot of the reaction stated in this article - "You're not mad at United Airlines, You're mad at America" - https://www.pastemagazine.com/artic...mad-at-united-airlines-youre-mad-at-amer.html

Ah yes, what was it again. "Journalism"? That's right.

You can tell which newspapers are hurting for that ad money. It's like United has put out a contract and these needy outlets are jumping at the chance to cash in. What's integrity when there is that juicy ad money on the table?

Oh, sorry, it's all about journalism after all, right? "Two sides of the story", right?

..I suppose he was guilty for his own beating for not being white.

I like how the company line and some responses just seem to reinforce the notion of Sky Law from 30 Rock.

"Look, Liz, we have reasons for doing things the way that we do them. We say "half an hour" to control the herds of walking mozzarella sticks who think that three hundred dollars and a photo ID gives them the right to fly through the air like one of the guardian owls of legend! God, that's been our in-flight movie for months."

How can you insult United or it's management by writing (letters, email or social media) without using what is considered "offensive language" or illegal "hate speach" or threats, how would I go about this ?
Does saying something like "you are a worthless stinking turd. your managers deserve paralysis/cancer/AIDS" work ? Any other suggestions to maximize the insult while staying legal and not using "offensive" words ?

I can't imagine living your entire life thinking you should always be at the mercy of authority.

If I was a Jew living in Nazi Germany and was labelled with the yellow badge I would gather my family report to the nearest concentration camp.

Edot: That's just what I would do personally.

People are saying that it doesn't matter what his past is, and it doesn't, just don't be hypocritical. If this happened to be a famous person with a history of being disliked a lot of people would be singing a different tune.

I think it's important to be unbiased, regardless of the situation.

Him being a doctor is a relevant detail because to postpone his trip would also be to postpone the treatment of his patient. Surely you can see how controversial that is. Meanwhile, his past is entirely irrelevant in this case. There's not much of a comparison to be made.

Since you can't prove how people would've reacted in a different situation but are making an argument based on it anyway this mostly just reveals how biased you are.

Yes, I'm very hypocritical when it comes to this fantasy scenario you just made up.

So you're holding you're own hypothetical situation in which critics would be hypocritical against us or what?

These hit pieces and character assassination articles makes it out to be that is infact United that is commissioning these "news sites" to find dirt on him in an effort to salvage their reputation. Got to quickly direct attention elsewhere instead from their sinking rep and their tanking stock. The most hilarious part is that almost everyone is seeing through their bullshit.

The stock movement is nothing yet. It has lost and gained multiple billions last month and two months ago. We'll see in six months what the damage is, for some it's just a good time to buy.

The stock has almost doubled in price in the last year.

Which passenger was asked to vacate their seat and the consequences of that are irrelevant. The lack of peaceful resolution on United's part and the physical assault by the CPD is.

I still think the best part of the story is when a passenger suggested she would give up her seat for some reasonable amount in vouchers and the manager laughed in her face.

Is #NewUnitedAirlinesMottos still trending on twitter? By the amount of tweets it looks like it should, but doesn't show on my client (but I'm in UK).
