If it's true that the flight was not overbooked and that they used, regardless if done intentionally or not, a similar name with a criminal record to run a smear campaign...

There is no recovering from this.

They're Trayvon Martin'ing him. They want people to believe he deserved this.

So the victim blaming backfired from people being sick of 'journalists' victim blaming; and it may backfire even more because they didn't even dig up the right dirt and then ran with it anyway? This is absolutely delicious if true. Hope this backfires so hard that it finally puts an end to this disgusting practice. Whatever lawyer he's got is going to have a non-stop erection due to all the potential lawsuits.

Going to get paid so hard he'll be able to retire in luxury.

He rightfully deserves a payday, but it's also kinda insane to think how a couple people doing ridiculously bad at their job can cost a company a fortune. That's a little scary to me to be honest.

Anybody on that plane could've called upper management or even the police to stop what was happening, or just offered more money for somebody to debark. They didn't because of their training and the company culture, and that's made more clear by the immediate support they got from United's PR team and upper management.

The whole company is liable because the whole company is culpable. If they had immediately apologized, said what happened was wrong and not what United stands for, and fired some people they'd be a lot less liable. But they didn't.

A big part of why this whole situation is so bad for UA is how their CEO reacted. He defended the actions of the employees responsible, and then started victim-blaming by accusing the doctor of being belligerent.

Plus, the doctor was dragged off the plane due to shitty policies. The altercation can't solely be blamed on some rogue individuals.

Plus, UA have a history of abysmal customer service/scandals.

Don't shed any tears for UA; they brought this on themselves.

-Flight not overbooked.
-Punch a passenger.
-CEO gave a unapologetic half ass 'apology'.
-Smear campaign by the media bringing out the Passenger's criminal past.
-Turns out the they dug out the wrong person info.

This is one hell of a ride of an incident.

United Airlines - When you do get taken to court over this, save some money by not bothering with lawyers, and just get some lube instead. The latter will at least help you.

Branding kind of falls apart if the people doing ridiculously bad at their job don't also represent you.

Jesus, that latest "apology" from Oscar or whoever the fuck the CEO is reeks of frantic desperation. Fuck him and fuck his airline, I hope they go out of business and the doctor gets paid.

"Ridiculously bad" is a stewardess cussing a passenger out, or a passenger missing their flight because of staff incompetence.

Physically dragging a passenger out of his seat and knocking his head against the armrest is something else entirely. It's not like those two guys acted alone, it went through the chain of command and they represent the company. The airline flat out deserves to go out of business for this shit.

I need a DBZ level for this attorney.

Are we talking SSJ3?

United deserve the upcoming beating.

He doesn't even need to be SS to get a massive fucking payday from this. Any decent lawyer has mountains of ammunition, especially with the recent statements and false reports, to bleed out United for years and years.

Between the lawsuit and the legendary PR hit I honestly see them being dead within 5-10 years. Can't remember the last time an airline had a PR disaster like this.

Saw this story on BBC news this morning, they said shares had plummeted too, amazing how something that started off so small, has ended up costing a company millions of dollars. I bet they wish they'd picked someone else.

They (UA) are probably going to go for a high settle to burry this fast.

But if the laywer of the doctor wants the real big check and goes all in.... quick googling of him (Thomas Demetrio) it seems that this guy is elite.

Just wikipedia:

The National Law Journal named him one of the top ten lawyers in the nation [1] and one of the top ten trial lawyer in Illinois [2] and since its inception in 2005, Lawdragon has named him one of the top 500 Leading Lawyers in America

The mistaken identity smear campaign is just golden.

Can we please verification of this?

Even if it was him it was utterly and entirely fucking irrelevant in the first place. There's videos of what happened, he was simply refusing to get up out of the seat he paid for, not pulling a fucking gun on these morons.

This guy isn't going to settle, he's going to bury United, especially if this mistaken identity stuff pans out.

This is what happens when private businesses are given too much power and rights over their customers. These assholes they hire for security are likely bottom of the barrel, shit-kicking morons who will eagerly abuse people given then chance (as we see here and in other videos of them kicking people who paid off of planes).

Unfortunately until the Dems regain control of Congress and the WH any hopes of consumer rights reform in this arena is a pipe dream.

If China boycotts you, you're in deep shit.

I need verification of this too-to personally shame someone I know who brought that up, as if it fucking mattered.
I suspect it's actually the same guy, but it's completely irrelevant. He's going to get a lot of money, and maybe United will learn to treat their customers like human beings.

Yep. Weren't they initially praised for what they did? They expect to be allowed to do this.

Just the idea of offering a voucher, and then jumping straight to using force, when the next flight won't get there until the next day shows contempt for the customers.

What a stupid airline and CEO. The way this has all been handled has been a complete mess.

Fuck United, I will never fly them ever again (only did once years ago and unfortunately it was not my choice). It was by far the worst flight I've had in my life both domestically and internationally. I even wrote to them for how bad the flight was and all I got was a BS "apology" letter.

Even if United was a cheaper way to go to my destination, I would pay *more* to a different airline altogether just to avoid them. Such a trash airline.

Absolutely, but I'm almost desperate for this not to be him just to stick it to the media who always reflexively digs up dirt on victims of police brutality as a means of interring the victim somehow "deserved it" ex post facto.

This is important so that people on the cusp learn how the media really works and how dishonest it can be, especially in situations like this.

Guy can even hire Uncle Jack and will still get a fucking payday out of this.

I think they'll keep upping the compensation next time this happens. Probably would have been cheaper to book the employees in on a competiors flight. haha

What a mess in, every single respect. It's actually baffling how many different things went wrong from start to this point in this case.

At least the passenger will get a hefty payday.
