Do people want Mance, or do they want Ciarian Hinds? Because shouldn't "Mance" be played by the guy who played Rattleshirt? Which makes it...interesting...that they've recast him.

Original actor just might not have been available, it's not like small guest actors are under contract.

Just got my season 4 from amazon.de, waiting a little bit longer was worth it, the cover is phenomenal.

NIMBLE DUCK CONFIRMED

It's funny how much backstory and information the animated vignettes on the DVDs reveal. The Season 4 ones mention the Blackfyres constantly, yet that plotline may be erased completely from the show. From now on I only consider the DVD extras to be canon.

I seriously wouldn't be surprised if there's someone eating duck in a short scene this year and that's what he's referring to.

It'll be a cameo by D&D, as they sit in the background feasting on animals/objects representing each cut storyline. A duck, a squid, a heart garnished with pebbles.

HBO posted a cool picture of the Maester's chain.

I never really noticed how detailed it was in the show.

The Maester's chain is one area where the show's visuals completely outshine the books' descriptions. In the books, isn't it a fairly small and plain chain?

Descriptions for episodes 4 through 7:

Also in an AccessHollywood interview, GRRM revealed a character who we haven't seen since the first two books will return in Winds. SPOILER!
Osha.
SPOILER

He also states he's got a "lot" written of Winds and will be taking Season 6 off to continue with the book.

Oh and

I would hope that character would return, it wouldn't make sense for them not too. Speculated Spoiler for said character:
What the fuck are they going to do with this plot line?

Davos crashes on Skagos, is hunted through the woods and ultimately caught by the Skagosi people. Eventually Osha visits him and he tells her about his mission. He asks to see Rickon so she leads him into a cave where Skagosi are worshiping a giant giant direwolf. Osha points to Shaggydog and says "here's Rickon, m'lord."

Season 6 will start filming in a few months, so it's being written right now.

Yeah, I think at this point writing for season 6 would be a kind of surrender. He knows he's not going to make it, so he's just going to take writing duties for some of the big season 6 moments and get them as close to his vision as possible. Skipping means he has some hope he can get the book out for spring 2016. Maybe a delusional hope, but hope.

This is the type of dedication I would have liked to have seen from Martin in 2013 and 2014 tbh. It was only right for him to use most of 2011 and much of 2012 as a victory lap, I get that. But 2013 should have been the year he really sat down and got serious about things. Instead he kept taking the victory lap by piling up more projects and events.

So what do you guys think of the episode descriptions?

Jon swinging a sword is definitely fetch me a block.
Tyrion seeing ghosts might be the sorrows
Margaerys grim surprise might be something bad happening to Loras
I don't think Doran Martell speaks his words is the fire and blood speech, seems to early
Winterfell wedding is the fArya wedding, I still cant see sansa taking that place

I'm thinking maybe "ghosts" refers to the fact that Tyrion's sailing through a lost civilization, a ghost town.

Cersei scheming in one episode, followed by a grim surprise for Marg the next definitely suggests Cersei outs Loras, and Marg finds out he's been arrested.

Agreed on it being too early for the big speech. My guess is it's when Ellaria gets arrested by Doran to put a stop to all the scheming and he talks to Jaime about Myrcella. Then the Sand Snakes can work out their Myrcella plot from their once they're all bitter about mom being locked away.

He's taking season 6 off as well?! Don't think we'll be seeing this release soon. :/

They would start writing the scripts or have starting writing scripts for season 6 now. George is clearing off most of his commitments this year including that. The optimist in me spins a tale that he's trying to finish the book this year (doesn't mean it'd release this year of course).

I'm thinking the same... I couldn't remember how long it took Dance from the point GRRM said he finished it until release day, and according to wiki:
- Despite not being actually "done," March 3, 2011, Publisher announces release date of July 12, 2011.
- George announces on April 27, 2011, that he completed Dance (over 1600 MS pages).
- Final draft is completed on May 20, 2011 (1510 MS pages).
- Dance is released on July 12, 2011.

Assuming a similar timeline, if it'll ever come out this year (as late as December),the latest announcement would be around September.

Oh god, thinking of timelines means I should stop myself NOW! :(

io9 had a guy who calculates when GRRM will be done, taking in all current information and past experience, all chapters cut that may have re-appeared, etc, and he says late 2016, early 2017 for him to finish.

Since people like him are usually full of shit, I'm hoping that means he'll be done by the end of this year.

Are they doing character posters? I need to switch my avatar to a male character that'll die this season as i've done in the past.

Jon it is. ;)

Yes, and then WotW put this out:

Huh. I was thinking it was maybe just a screw-up on the writer credit, but that sounds like it's wholesale false. They really didn't sound like the sort of thing someone would make up. usually the fakes are full of hints to fan-favorite moments and references to Stoneheart. This was pretty subdued.

Yes, they were pretty professionally vague. Though, at another site, we've been going back and forth over some of the very odd phrasing in the episode descriptions. Like 'Stannis
comes into trouble.' Huh? Like maybe whoever wrote it had English only as a second language and didn't get idioms quite right.
. And, if it turns out they are fake, maybe that's exactly what happened!
