Regarding the discussion about episode 3 with Highgarden falling so easily: Turns out that in show canon they don't have the largest army (or at least didn't back at the start of the war of 5 kings). Their army was smaller than the Lannister army, and with the Tarlys switching over, it makes sense that they would be outmatched.

Also interesting in that clip is that Arya knows that Littlefinger schemed with the Lannisters,

Season 7 though is where character arcs are dead and they just moving people into position. I'm honestly surprised we got Ed Sheeran and The Hound in Episode 1.

I really hope some things are permanently wrapped up this season. I REALLY want Cersei and Littlefinger gone by season's end.

Part of the Renly's army was made of Baratheon's soldiers, I guess the two combined made the biggest army.

The Lannisters were definitely portrayed as consistently stronger than the Tyrells on the show, but even still, the Highgarden scene seemed to ignore any value to having a castle. Until that moment the show has been pretty clear that small forces can hold castles against large ones, and you either need some trick to get inside, or to wait them out through siege (which in theory should be difficult against well-provisioned Tyrells).

The previous scene was all about a similar siege and the huge number of casualties the Unsullied took to pull it off, even after using the sewer trick. Last season had a multi-episode arc about how much trouble Blackfish could cause with a few dozen dudes because he had a castle. They had the whole Stannis backstory about a few starving men holding out against a massive host. If you can just walk up and take castles that easily, the whole military/strategic world of the show is completely upended.

What's weird is they wrote a trick to get them in there! They had the Tarly's betrayal. But then instead of using that to get the gate open, they storm the castle anyway, and apparently make off with extremely limited casualties regardless. A three minute scene of the Tyrells letting Tarly in to reinforce them against Jaime's coming army, and Tarly turning on them and capturing Olenna would've solved everything, and made that character's presence feel much more plot critical.
