Unreal Engine 5

Yay for even more static photorealistic worlds!

In fairness it does have one of, if not the most advanced physics engine, hopefully we'll see a lot more usage of that this gen (given the CPU upgrades for consoles), giving us less static worlds.

So not necessarily ya big gooey bastard!

But probably yes lmao

The real question is: has the UE4 microstuttering been fixed in UE5?

You mean the shader compilation stuff or asset loading when you move around the world? I think the latter was mostly fixed in UE4, like if you compare Vanishing of Ethan Carter to the Redux version its a revelation. The former I think is mostly up to devs to fix, as its not present in all games, I remember it was an issue in Psychonauts 2 recently for some people but didn't happen if you were capped to 30hz or on console.

You might be right its an inherent issue though, and in that cause yeah I also hope its fixed, I c-c-c-c-can't st-st-stand stutters in games these days, I have laser eyes that really accentuate those issues. Most people don't notice this stuff though Knifey, so we're are probably fucked:

*reveal trailer for a game comes out on Twitter and runs at 27fps and 540p upscaled to 1080p*

Most people: "Wow looks great! Oh my god the graphics/detail!"

I'd say UE physics philosophy seems more driven towards looking the coolest for the least amount of resources possible, rather than being realistic. The car crashes in that Matrix demo looked very dumb at times, and the chaos destruction often makes debris look like pieces of foam.

I agree on Matrix demo physics, I think that part of the "quality" of the physics work is down to the devs to tweak it to their needs. I think its promising though.

Oh come on, you don't think people make drive bys do you?

This was just a user's honest opinion. You know its honest because he has the posting chops to back it up.

Ontopic
Its good that this is picking up steam. I honestly can't wait to see what developers are going to do with it. I do expect UE4 to stay around though.

How can someone qualify Days Gone as a horror game lmao
They're, they're two separate sentences. Two separate thoughts since I happened to be playing Days Gone at the time this dropped.

Stumbling onto a massive horde that spots you, sure makes you shit though, lol.

TL;DR: I'm not sure I like this.

I sure do, Developers weren't getting creative in ways that made things beautiful. they were just making bad imitations, I'd much rather the industry moved to being stylized and abstract but if they insist on aiming for realism I rather they actually achieve it that just pumping out games that are just "realistic" but without shadows, reflections and bounced lighting. Maybe I would have agreed with you in the ps1 or ps2 Era but now we are far better off having the power to actually look realistic.

There is just as much to be gained from being able to do anything perfectly and choosing to make things unique than as there is from being forced to be unique because you can't achieve what you are aiming for.
