Just started the game.. play with show global stats option off or on?
I'd recommend off for the first playthrough. Turn it on for the second.
I'll mention a cheat to anyone who doesn't want to mess up the game due to their fucked up:
After each major situation where you successfully completed the game (you make the decision), quit and copy the save file elsewhere (cloud - turn off auto-update first OR USB - saver option). Then go back to the game. So if you fuck up, you can load the save file from the previous moment where you haven't fucked up.
But seriously, if this is your first go, just play it regardless of consequences. It's only later on when you try to mop up for trophies that you may want to use this cheat.
Yeah, as long as you're quick, you can manage it. Me and my friends did it once towards the end of the game because there was a shooting segment and I asked people what they wanted me to shoot at and in that time late game spoilerI found that if you just hold in the PS button and close application immediately upon a bad outcome you can reload before the bad thing

What's the logic with the flare gun?I gave it to Matt but it never even came up again. Both Matt and Emily survived in my game.

which again it's silly logicso high approval makes him shoot it automatically, but keeping in character high approval should make him try and save her twice and therefore keep the flare gun to survive. Which is silly
Now you have my interest. I have no idea what you're talking about with Mattactually sounds quite complex as Emily'sbecause he fell off a cliff due to crazy deer. I'm guessing he can get past that and go up to the fire tower with Emily? Also I know he can make it down the cliff alive because I saw it in the making of clipssolo escape was fairly straightforward
Yep if youdidnt hit the bird in the beginning or attack the deer, you can walk pass them with no problem
I....did the sameFinished it last night...
I felt like such an asshole when I didn't wait the one more time for Mike to leave. I'm such an asshole.
Four survivors.
Damn. I need to get out of the habit of reacting to every QTE. I did it for your first example (does that go horribly wrong otherwise?), but messed up with Matt.
some of the characters I don't really want to mess with too much -jessica seems quite difficult to kill. I'm guessing she'll fall down the mine whatever happens, and getting out of the mine was fairly straightforward
That's the point of it. Irl you wouldn't get a warning. It's brilliantFinished the game just now. It's absolutely amazing and I can't wait to play it again. I'll spoiler what happened in my playthrough, just in case:
I was very pleased with my playthrough. The only mistake I made was getting Matt killed. I chose to save Emily but she fell into into the mine. Matt moved on but was taken by the wendigo and was put onto a hook and died. He was the first one to die. Josh was the second (and last) to die, but I didn't feel bad about it seeing as he was the psycho.
For ages I thought Jess was dead, even though Mike got there very quickly, so I was very surprised and pleased to see that she was alive. She successfully got out the mine and was the first one to survive 'Until Dawn'.
I was desperate for Chris and Ashley to survive seeing as I'd grown quite fond of them. They luckily survived with no real problems. Emily made it out as well along with Sam and Mike. Apart from Matt, everyone I wanted to survive did, so I'm quite pleased about that.
The final scene in the cabin was tense as fuck and I was glad that Sam and Mike lived through it. The Sanitorium and Sanitorium redux were probably my favourite parts of the game.
Overall, the game is really good and I hope they make another one. I'm excited to see what they could bring to a second game. I'd give it a 9.5/10. The only thing I didn't like was that I failed 80% of the don't move parts because there was almost no warning before it happened. Other than that the game was great.

That's what I'm thinking. Those "don't move" sections were some of the most tense in the whole game and it's really great new game mechanic addition. Fits perfectly in the horror genre.
Just finished, onlydied, not really sure how to avoid that either.Josh
Ending was insanely tense, I had to literally set my controller on my footrest.
Hm... The more I play the more I feel like some deaths are completely out of my control... It's starting to get annoying in that way. D:
Nah, they're completely in your control. Otherwise, keep playing.
But like...
I chased after Jessica succesfully as Mike, even used all possible short cuts and only missed one quick time event. Despite that she died regardless. So what was the point in failing or succeeding if she was just going to die?
What do you mean by she died? Is it:
A. Mike found her semi-conscious on the lift and then the lift fell down.
B. Mike was late and she fell down from the tower and her jaw is ripped open (the game shows you where you failed in flashback tinted color). Then the lift fell down.
There's a big difference.
If it's A, keep playing. If it's B, it's your mistake since you failed the QTE. Although IIRC, I once failed one QTE and she's still alive regardless. I think the game was forgiving depending on which part of the QTE you failed. She's still alive.
Okay, it was A.
I guess thus far the only one of my peeps who have died is....Matt
Can you save him by...Jumping instead of trying to grab Emily? But then does she die or does she still go through the cavern?

You can save him depending on a choice you made earlier in the game. But yea him jumping is the best option. But again, he can come out alive from both options. The one you chose just depended on a choice from earlier.

just started tonight, got to the snowball scene with mike and jess and the game hung trying to get to the next scene. stayed black for like 2 minutes. i tried to quit the application, but then my whole ps4 got black screened. manually turned off the ps4 and it's now recovering partially installed data. kind of scared to play this game for the wrong reasons.
And done
My survivors were,
Mike, Chris and Emily.
Matt got killed by having his face impaled on a hook. Honestly couldn't see any way out of that. The Butterfly effect thing said he didn't have a weapon, but he fired the flare gun without me even telling him to I think. Also confused as to why a Wendigo would kill him that way when in every other case they've gone for using their bare hands to remove/rip apart people's heads.
Jess got killed because she tried to run. Realised right away it was stupid rather than hiding.
Ashley got her head twisted off for investigating a noise she thought was Jessica. Nobody in the group seemed to notice her missing.
Sam was killed in a bullshit third in a row "Don't move" in the cabin at the end where even though I didn't move it decided to flag up and kill her anyway. Was I supposed to just go straight for the light switch?
Josh got dragged off by Hannah-Wendigo because they recognised each other. Saw him post-credits half turned into a Wendigo and eating a head.
Think I might have to do another playthrough, maybe just use a guide this time for maximum survivors and to find all the clues/totems
wow, finally had time to play this game on friday. Finished it in one long sitting basically. I so hope this sells well and warrants a sequel, we need more games like this. It was just a great experience all around, and some scenes looked outright stunning.
How long did it take you?
I've been thinking about getting this and inviting some friends over and playing it collectively with them near Halloween.
