I'm not following NFL, but this guy is one of their biggest star right?

The guy is probably the best running back the league has had since Barry Sanders. So yea he is a very big star. Plays for a shit team tho so its not that big of a deal as the Vikings will lose either way with or without him.

Here are some of his career stats/awards

You'll have to forgive me for saying this, I'm hoping it was just a grandmotherly spanking and nothing too harsh but... that's badass. A cow bone? Damn.

Yea it was nothing too bad. It was more of a scare tactic than anything else. But she still has the thing. It just sits in the corner, Lol.

Vikings will be holding a press conference at noon ET that will include their owners who apparently are some of the worst public speakers in all of sports if what people are saying is accurate.

Smart edit on this page, but to think some people put a guy who did nothing wrong except stand up for his orientation with actual criminal activity. Sad.

Man the Vikings look so inept. Glad I'm not a Minnesotan whose tax dollars are going to that new stadium.

It's really frustrating, man. I was such a huge football fan, but in no way did I want a publicly funded stadium and neither did the people of Minneapolis or Minnesota. That's why there was no public vote and the citizens were just railroaded.

At least Minneapolis responded by voting out most of the council members that sold us out, and elected a new mayor based partly on her vocal opposition of the stadium.

I'm sure its fun to laugh at how naive we must seem, but this albatross is going to hamstring the city I love financially for a long time and that hurts. It was set in motion and enacted by moneyed aristocrats and an ignorant vocal minority.

Fuck America's obsession with fame and sports.

Because panem et circenses was first coined shortly after drafting the US constitution, and only America would sell out their citizenry for sport, right Brazil?

Looks like the Vikings are doing the Hokey Pokey with AP. They might not have to shake it all about though, because AP might have already done that to his kids.

You put your AP in
You pull your AP out
You put your AP in
And you shake it all about.
You do the hokey pokey
And the sponsors turn around
That's what it's all about ($$$)!

Hopefully this will send a message to people across America that beating your child is not acceptable behavior. Many cultural traditions and particularities just need to burn basically.

I know it's technically just a contract with AP and not the NFL. But Goodell has to see that and start to get a little nervous, because if that starts trickling up to a "contracts with NFL" level then his seat gets even hotter.

Anheuser-Busch did this yesterday by saying that they were disappointed in how the NFL was handling recent incidents.

Full Story here

It's shameful that Nike only made that announcement after the NFL decides he can't be on the field. Nike knew the facts days ago, like everyone else. Adrian Peterson is not denying he beat his kid and left those cuts all over him. Fuck you Nike.

They actually pulled all AP merch from their Minnesota stores yesterday well before the NFL/Vikings changed their minds. They probably had to get all their ducks in a row before severing ties entirely.

Nike pulled the Peterson jerseys from some of its flagship stores days ago. This was in the works

I bet the Nike comment is exactly what caused all this. They probably told Goodell to fix this shit now.

They pulled AP merchandise from stores yesterday. I think this was more of a case of Nike waiting on the NFL to comment before making their statement public.

Yep, can't suspend a contract with Peterson and continue to sell his jersey at your stores. the decision to suspend the contract was likely made on Monday, and they used the rest of the day and Tuesday to pull his merchandise.

Why don't they just terminate the contract instead of suspending it?

Probably in the off chance that AP is actually innocent. Either that or they're having someone from their legal department comb through the contract to make sure they can terminate the contract without penalty.

He hasn't been convicted.

He doesn't need to be convicted though, does he? He's admitted he did this, and there's photographic evidence that he did it to go along with his confession that the marks you see are the marks he left.

Is there some sort of legal precedent preventing Nike from terminating their contract with him? It would make sense that they've got lawyers combing the thing to see whether or not it's cost-effective to the company to pay whatever penalties the contract likely has built in, and that's why it's just a suspension currently, but I can't imagine Nike is in a position where their hands are tied and they simply can't terminate their contract no matter what.

Nope. Same as the NFL. No conviction needed.

Because unlike Ray Rice, AD is still good and when he comes back he can and will probably make them money.

These sponsors aren't about any morals...it's all about the money.

Point taken.

Looks like Greg Hardy is next:

It appears a decision on Greg Hardy is coming soon.

On his way into practice, Panthers coach Ron Rivera told multiple reporters that his controversial defensive end would not be practicing today, but didn’t respond to any questions about his status.

Hardy then left the stadium, accompanied by agent Drew Rosenhaus, who said a decision had been made.

Rivera was late coming out to practice, so he was likely inside the team’s facility in a meeting about his franchise-tagged defensive end, who is expected to be dealt with by the league soon for the domestic violence charges against him.

Finally. Even though it's being forced over dollars, it looks like action is being taken.

I bet the NFL wishes Michael Sam making the Rams/Cowboys team was the biggest controversy this seaaon.
Funny you mention that. Sam signing with the Cowboys was a nice cover up for the Cowboys re - signing and nfl reinstating a killer that same day. First of many fuckups.

I don't understand the obsession with sports at all.

the whole Penn State debacle with Patenro apologists and Sandusky apologists is what disgusted me the most about sports obsession culture that overrided the rule of law and the rule of morality... all in the name of sports.

So if Peterson isn't convicted of any of these charges, would any of these suspensions actually get lifted? Seems unlikely unless his public image is significantly restored somehow.

funny thing is that there's no way AP willfully chooses to play another game for the Vikings after they throw him under the bus for this and its just a matter of when and not if this whole thing blows over

nah. He agreed to this. Still gets payed.

The PA shouldn't have any beef right now

of course he'd agree to take a suspension with pay vs without
